Civic, Golf, Leon - which is best? 👇
Peugeot 308
Golf and leon infotainment + capacitative buttons are trash
Oh civic is best hahaha, get a test drive and sit in the back seats, as soon as you go over a speed bump anything over 10mph and don’t tell the rear passengers they soon crack their heads off the roof.
10” screen is an option, comes as standard on the Advance trim here in Sweden.
@Penry the mild mannered janitor i mean, I set my temperature once I start the car 🤔
A seat adjustment lever is WAY better than a wheel. I am 6.1 and I am NEVER able to comfortably position my hand over the wheel because in my driving position the seat inevitably aligns with the B pillar, thus blocking the wheel. A lever makes adjusting MUCH faster (you pull to unlock the backrest, use your body to position it and let the lever go) than desperately turning a frigging knob (pun intended).
agreed, its a constant frustration with what car labeling the knob inferior to the lever, when the lever is a far superior option.
I’ve had mine for 2 months now and it’s averaged 52mpg over 2,500 miles of mixed driving. It’s a brilliant car and a lot of fun to drive.
52 mpg isn't particularly good compared to Toyotas hybrids.
@@bikeman123 Maybe not, a neighbour of ours gets around 58 mpg from his Toyota. But the Civic - in my opinion - is much better to drive, has a better interior and has better exterior styling. I’d sacrifice a few mpg’s to have a better, more dynamic driving experience.
When driving at high speeds on the highway, do you prefer normal mode or sport mode regarding steering?
@@yehudarov9282 I have the steering on normal mode most of the time. I only engage sports mode if I want some fun on the twisty roads!
How long did you have to wait to get it.
Test drove one and fell in love with it, ordered one. It's not just the efficiency, the thing can shift from the line and is great on corners. I got 66mpg driving across Sheffield with its hills.
Whats your estimated waiting time?
@@kjayk longer for the Advance model, ordered late November and expected delivery in May but I wouldn't be surprised if that gets pushed back due to Honda scaling back production
@@KingSadim Why is Honda scaling back production (of the Civic)?
@@haveaseatplease Honda made a statement in September 2022 that they were reducing production by 40%. This is due to a shortage in parts
The same! Stoneacre Archer Rd? Got 63mpg Now to wait.
Love it! Prefer the lever to the wheel for seat adjustment. Impressed with the mpg AND something you maybe forgot to mention, Honda's reliability record, which is well up there. Great honest review, as usual. 👍
I've had my Civic Sport in Premium Crystal Blue for 3 and a half months and I'm very happy with it. I've covered just shy of 10.000mi and I've saved a good 160L of petrol since compared to my previous KIA Cee'd JD 1.6GDI that I had for 5 and a half years and covered 88,000mi in it. Talking about the drive, it definitely comes alive on a twisty road, great fun. All in all, a brilliant little car.
Further to the above, I've averaged up to 170mpg in town and nearly 70mpg on a long run on speeds between 50 - 70mph.
I've always been a fan of Honda cars. Loved their reliability, their overall quality and knowing one would be buying a car 'for life' if so wished.
The one thing preventing me from getting a civic for the last 15 years or so was their design. Both exterior and interior.
So now Honda as nailed it on design department (exterior and interior) but I'm not a fan of the power train anymore...
PLEASE, honda Europe, give a non hybrid option to the old souls like me
I think you should drive it first and then make decision. I drow it last year and now I am waiting fourth month for Sport in Pearl White. I am also "old soul" by the way.
Honda hybrid is tuned for the "old souls" like you too. A sports i-mmd.
Got mine in October 2022. In Metric: 4,6 liters / 100 km. From Germany 600km Autobahn to Holland 5,1/100km
Amazing image quality and warmth of lighting in this video. Thanks!
Just looked at leasing costs, £583 a month, 8000 miles, 3 months upfront. Ludicrous, I had a Volvo XC90 from 2019 to 2022 on same terms for £552 a month. Car prices are just stupid.
Very true. Sadly I think it has more to do with finance costs and los supply of vehicles.
Yeah check how much a XC90 is now - £900
I’m six 2 and sat perfectly in back
I'd imagine one's length of torso has a big impact on perceived headroom.
hi, which civic is this, you have civic hybrid and civic Type R, what's the difference between them, we have tall passenger for back seat, what can you suggest. Thank you
great review! It's coming to Canada for 2025 in both sedan and hatch so I may consider this for my next daily driver. Does this muster any full-EV driving, even at crawl speed?
what a calm and pleasant presentation
Will the HRV get the updated system in time?
Is the catalytic converter inside the engine bay? Very worried about cat theft.
This Civic is much better than what's out of Europe.
Beautifully filmed
HRV incredibly loud? Really? If you shove your foot to the floor it will be but if driven as intended not so! (at least mine isn't) Yes a bit of road noise. That said the new hybrid system in the Civic is an improvement but then it is a different class of car to the HRV.
My favorite car.
In South Africa, this car costs R 677 000.00
Currently own a FK8. Had a test drive in the e hev and was instantly won over.Good performance with instant torque, excellent handling, comfortable and mpg between 55-65 mpg. Interior felt premium and well equipped, decided on the Crystal Blue Advance. Last but certainly not least many physical controls, unlike VW touch hepatic totally impratical. Looking forward to March.
I wonder how it handles vs the 1 series. I really like this power train setup!
I have the HRV and find it a good drive around town, but I have ordered the Civic Advance as I love the civics, this looks grown up with better styling so looking forward to May
He said it’s much better to drive than HRV, even though both are hybrid and have cvt gearbox.
@amitavraja3385 the civic has a much improved cvt, the HRV tends to rev high and is quite noisy, what I've seen on other videos the Civic seems to operate like a normal automatic gearbox
@@darynmarshall2247 there is no CVT in the Civic.
@italianjob4947 yes there is
@@darynmarshall2247 No there isn't! Even Honda state that there isn't.
Like the Octavia, the Civic is always going to better the golf, Leon etc for luggage space since it's a larger car. Compare it to similar sized cars like the Prius.
0-60 in under 7 and 50 real world mpg are pretty good figures. I would probably prefer the estate though
It's not under 7 seconds. It's officially 7.8+
@@italianjob4947 you said that right. "Officially". Irl you can get under 7s.
@@italianjob4947 I am sure I saw 6.8 somewhere !
I wish honda Europe would offer this car with the engines available in the US and a diesel, especially as their 1.6 was actually pretty good and us still emissions compliant for E6d
That's true...I miss my 1.6 ....it was/is such a good engine! You can get 60 mpg, and better, easily
I always love that coat!
I wonder if Honda will eventually update their recently released HR-V with the newer E-HEV technology found in this Civic?
For this price everyone should look for a Lexus ES300H. Almost the same price, but much more refined and luxurious car.
I want to buy the car for my commute to work!
Civic Jazz has always been a Saviour for Honda .
I like it,I wonder if they,ll bring out an estate version and do they offer it without low profile tyres
I bought a diesel civil new in 2019 and I'm getting 57 mpg.
Nice looking car, I think I’ll be looking into that! 😊
Thanks man.
Is there a new civic model without the sloping back??
Went to the dealer today and was told there is a 8 month wait for one of these. 😩
@@IanB-uy1wh all cars of similar size seem to be bumping along the 30k mark these days. The new Corolla has just jumped in price as has the e power Nissan Quashqai.
What a shame that in the list of competitors to this car there is, as yet, no Guilietta replacement. Alfa Romeo have once again shot themselves in the foot and seem to have become SUV orientated, maybe it’s too late for them to produce a relatively mainstream , small but interesting family car .
As for the Civic I just hope that the stylists are not let loose on it when they do a Civic-R, the last one looked horrendous, mind you I am nearly 80 and probably not quite up to speed with what people want or need.
Would be nice to see what they have done to improve the old CVT system?
There is no gearbox, hence no CVT.
Some US professor did a breakdown on u tube
I wanted to understand the data of acceleration from 0. 60 mph in 6.8 sec.. The fairest data is between 7.8 and 8.1 sec..With which device certified if the house from that timing that I wrote! In Italy our journalists give it on 7.22 and 7.8 With which device certified if the house from that timing that I wrote! In Italy our journalists give it on 7.22 and 7.8 sec 🤷♂️🤷♂️
What?
It has a "Launch control" in Sport mode . Step on the brake while pressing the acceleration, then release the brake. In this way it will not try to emulate the gear changes and it will do 6.7 - 6.8 seconds to 100km/h
Remember that Italian journalists would have been testing 0-100kph (62mph) whereas English journalists record 0-60mph. Most testers and car manufacturers who quote both reckon a most cars take about another 0.5 second to get to 100kph compared to 60mph.
I bought an eight month old 1.0 mk 10 Civic SR in May 2021 for £17500. A new entry level MK11 is over £30k !! I know it is a hybrid, but you are talking around £10,000 more for the new model. Absolutely ridiculous.
Where from?
Honda Belfast. This was in May 2021
The crazy prices in Australia will doom this car to failure in our market.
Unfortunately now its £39777 for an Advance. If you choose anything other then the standard options with Sonic grey pearl paint you will hit the £40000 road tax bracket. You will pay an extra £395 for 5 years after a years ownership. Best to buy the car and pay for the extras separately as most are dealer fit anyway
What you talking about. Lever is 10 times better than a wheel. Seriously
I don't kwn why ppl like the wheel(some say fine adjustments). I prefer the lever any day of the week.
I actually stopped watching the video at that moment! Levers are much better. Rediculous.
Egg head!!! Levers are the way to go!!
Only a buffoon would say a wheel is better than a lever
Lever all the way. The wheel is way too slow.
Have to say I really love all your reviews. This Honda is a lovely car but to me it just looks remarkably like a Mazda 3. That's not a criticism as I like the Mazda 3 , I just wish Honda put a little bit more of imagination into the styling. Still , a nice car.....cheers
Is the previous model more to your liking?
I don't care for the squinty-eyed look of the Mazda front-end myself, I prefer the look of the Civic
Looks quite impressive. Will there be an estate variant?
SAdly, no
New ZR-V will be kind of estate-suv civic based
I was looking at this or the new 2023 Accord, both look nice
The Accord is not on sale in UK
@@amitavraja3385 That's because the new model is not even released yet... It's releasing sometime this year
But is it worth nearly 10k US dollars more than a regular Civic? No way.
Will there be an estate version of this at all?
Sadly, don't count on it ever seeing the light of day.
Honda hasn't offered an estate version of the Civic for years now
@@c.d.c9425 Yet the estate of the 9th generation of the Civic (2011-2015) accounted for 1/4 th of the sales on the EU market. So it's not very logical to pass on this practical body-style.
@@haveaseatplease Estates aren't that popular outside of Europe. I guess Honda wanted to simplify its lineup into two core bodystyles that appeal to all markets globally - a hatchback and a saloon.
50mpg and no estate!!! Glad I went for the Corolla that’s averaging 63mpg over 55k miles.
Not sure what test they used to get 49mpg but even on the Civic forum people are getting high 50s and 60s for this car. It is actually weakest on Motorways as the electric drive is not used. 90% of my driving is urban so it is perfect for me.
I've extensively test driven both, and found the civic to be vastly superior to the corolla!
You will get free complementary Back pain driving Corolla.
@@l4rjy Indeed, Corolla seating is only so and so.
Don't agree...I have a 2020 1.5 turbo sport civic and I regularly get late 40s around town and late 50s on a longer run. If I hyper mile I can get over 60...and it too has 180bhp. To top it off the road tax on this new civic is no more lower than mine..? go figure?
Good but too expensive
at 37k euro, it can be the best hatchback in the world....ffs..it is 37k..for a basic civic. The hell with it.
33K Euro in the UK - and there's nothing basic about it - it's one of the best equipped cars for the money.
@@italianjob4947 Totally agree.
€48.5k in Ireland. While rest of the Europe gets better price.
@@jamiurrahmanchoudhury4369
We in Ireland get the same price as the rest of Europe, it's just that our "bright" government needs more money for the welfare mothers to buy their votes, hence you will have to pay up. It's a total joke
🤦
Just as fast as the previous iteration but 10k more expensive ? No thanks.
Best car you can buy........... except you can't buy it had my Feb 7th order cancelled by Honda 2 days ago looking at March 2024 before I can order one, Toyota it is then.
Most people will only transport kids in the rear (like me). Head room no issue with them. I never see hatch backs with adults in the rear.
Go does the CVT feel in here? I know the rest of them sound hideous when driven fast.
Try one you'll be amazed how good this car is.
There is no CVT.
No cvt, the combustion engine simulates gear changes, sounds like dual clutch car, electric motor drives it
It’s awesome 🎉❤
This or prius 2023?
Scratchy plastics and rear headroom: the "Well, we have to find SOMETHING to be persnickety about" of the car review world.
I found the Civic very loud inside.
*Lever >> Wheel* 🍃🚬🗿
Less complex motion and faster to adjust than a wheel, especially on the move.
But does the lever allow the same flexibility and range of adjustment as the wheel ? That's the point, and quite important btw.
@@radam2818In my experience, yes it does. And can be re-adjusted far easier on the move.
Front looks better than the ugly rear. Wish the HRV had the same new Hybrid system as this Civic. Prefer crossover/SUV than saloons/hot hatches after years of driving them.
2006 HONDA CIVIC
US based Civics do not get vents in the rear
No 360 camera option..even on top trim..not good.
50mpg with all that tech and expense, when the 1.6 idtec in the previous car got 60 easily
No magic seats?
Spare tire? Another inflator kit?
If I wanted a barge, I would go to a canal.
Why is Seat getting mentioned with Civic, i owned over 20 different cars, Leon by a mile worst car i owned. EGR vans, turbos, PDF filters..... Stay away from Seat Leon. Civic is a no 1 reliability car alongside Mazda and Toyota. Germans where good 30 years ago
Why don't you check if the cars you review can take a space saver wheel, this is important. If you do a review do it right.
I’ve never used a spare wheel in 22 years I’ve been driving
Rapair kit only
I will probably get this car. However, the Skoda estate is looking so good.
reliability and resale value of the Skoda is not on par with the Honda
Massive jump in price this year (UK ) and the feedback from owners regarding MPG is just average, certainly not the 80mpg /85 autotrader bragged about. Highly misleading.
This guy is a joke the civic is miles better than any golf
Hope they fixed faulty gearbox.
There is no gearbox.
What gearbox, maybe you should do some research.
No gearbox, its essentially an electric car charged with combustion engine
Pity you can't actually get one in the UK.
What, this is the new "normal" Civic in the U.K. and across Europe?! - pity we can't get the "old" one anymore! 😯😂🩲
Fan for HONDA.
I think I'll wait and see what the estate version will be like.
Not planned
Give me back my damn manuals!!!!
A comparison with the Corolla would have been interesting rather than always the Leon
civic is more driver orientated with better interior materials, the corolla (especially the SW) is the interior space miracle though
Is is good enough to stop the plummeting Honda sales in Europe?
It will and is already turning the sales figures in an upwards direction.
If they get the pricing right. That's been their downfall recently, compared to similar offerings from other manufacturers
You can't compare a Ford with a honda
49.9 mpg is good but not great, I get somewhere in the mid fifties from my hybrid. It's also a pity it is so anodyne looking. Shame, I like Honda's, but at that price not going to be on my radar.
Your hybrid doesn't handle like this nor does it accelerate like this Civic
Don't need to break the record for 0-60 and as I generally drive at the speed limit, I don't need to handle like an F1 car, so basically, I couldn't care less......
Why are all these reviews coming from the U.K. Are there no Americans reviewing all these cars?!
1:25 I disagree
This dude has never parked in a car before 😂😂😂
Poor show with Honda if they have loaded old tech into the HRV.
The tech is identical, he was wrong. The HRV has a 1.5 engine, that’s the difference.
New accord pls
don't hold your breath.
Accord is not available in Europe market
Why can't all cars look normal and generic like this.. why are cars looking futuristic? It's so ridiculous and unnecessary.. I miss 2010 cars
Shame no estate anymore.
Indeed, not very understandeble, as 1/4 of the previous Civic (the one with the rounded design) sales in EU were estates.
@@haveaseatplease indeed. We had one. Very good estate, boot was huge for such a medium sized car.
New ZR-V will be kind of estate-suv based on civic
@@kjayk Got an Arteon now. Not keen on SUVs.
Honda & Toyota hybrid, nothing else.
I can't get past the performance figures. I would expect a 181bhp mid-size hatchback to be good for the upper side of 130mph even with the walloping mass that modern cars have to lug about. I know that's meaningless for 99% of people 99% of the time, but to me it seems like a worthless power figure. For perspective my 94bhp Fiesta (OK - a smaller and much more horrible car) has the same claimed top speed and really does give me 71mpg as well. Hybrids are city runabouts to satisfy lunatic council leaders and might as well be given a 1-litre 50bhp engine for that purpose. Outside of the fascist emissions zones, give me a diesel any day.
The top speed is artificially limited because as the engine is directly connected to the wheels at motorway speeds, the lack of a geared transmission would over speed the engine. Remember, the eCVT is NOT a gearbox and is an acronym for electronically Continuously Variable Torque.
A weak point of Honda is always the outdated software technology gps entertainment etc. No big improvement from previous Civic
Software is so much better then the mk 10 but to be honest anything would be
At least, You get Android auto and Apple carplay as standard for all versions. So the infotainment system itself doesn't matter that much
You get, Android auto, apple car play, don't need anything else for infotainment
Seat levers are much better than the crap twist wheels
But wheels provide a much better scope for adjustment than levers, and that's important indeed.
6:23 The Civic from the early 90's can do 50 m.p.g. so that just beats the new one.
not exactly a fair comparison is it.
@@haveaseatplease But the global heatings are the same.
@@haveaseatplease why not? Isn't technology supposed to achieve real benefits.
@@bikeman123 well you compare a car that has to be compliant with the minimal active and passive safety standards of yesteryear with a car that has to be compliant with the current NCAP and IIHS standards. Current high safety standards result in much heavier cars.
A bit 'coffin like' inside... Mm...
Where is sporty DNA ? This design theme suit on Accord,
Why honda destroy civic?
Not as plush as a Mazda, u joking
Hang on, my 2007 Civic got me 45mpg. So 15 years and the huge extra cost of hybrid batteries I get an extra 5mpg. But hey, at least it'll stop hurricanes and the UK having warm summers. Everyone is being royally taken for mugs.
You averaged 45mpg in a petrol Civic? You must drive everywhere well below the speed limit!
