    I really applaud Honda for keeping things simple in the interior.
    The way that many manufactures are adding complexity to their modern interiors in the name of increased technology is a real turn off for me. So much so that I would buy an older model of a car with a simpler interior rather than the new current version with greater ( and unnecessary ) techno complexity

    Great review, just 3 years ago I would only ever consider buying a German manufacturer car, in this class a Golf (7.5) or a A3, possibly a Focus, its shocking how today back end of 2022 these manufacurers have all taken a step backwards especially in terms of both quality and engine innovation, and Honda has stepped 2 steps forwards and overtaken the like of the Golf! A Honda is better built than a VW - still shocks me!

    Hi Thomas, it's true that the seat heating button is hidden behind the wheel, but the information on set level is relayed on the top corner of the screen and stays there for a few seconds, so that the driver doesn't need to look down. Same goes for all inputs to the climate system.

  • @SOMEONE-ME
    @SOMEONE-ME ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Here is how powertrain works.
    It's based on same idea as in eg. Jazz, but it's more powerful one and newly developed.
    This car has no gearbox in any shape.
    It's all simulated and extra faked in SPORT mode buy special unit which can't be turned off (but can be disconnected by 10min DIY). "Gears" in this car is a modulation of the current which powers electric motor.
    It's basically an electric car, which most of the time is driven by quite powerful electric motor. Only at specific scenarios (calm, steady ride at 70-140Km/h) system can switch to direct drive by petrol engine (through simple clutch, aka. 6th gear). Any acceleration, hill etc and you back to hybrid mode where electric motor powers wheels and petrol engine just powers generator and battery. In case of any sudden need for extra power system will use generator (so also petrol engine) + stored battery power.
    This car never uses both engines at the same time to drive wheels! It's fundamentally different system to Toyota's.
    Whole idea is based on fact that petrol engine is mostly disconnected from wheels and can operate at optimal conditions close to maximum engine efficiency (2-3K RPM). Any surplus of energy is stored in battery for later use. This is key secret of this drive system. Typical petrol car operates at relatively low efficiency which changes through the drive and about never reaches optimal value. Here petrol engine, is most of the time, close to its optimal working point, so petrol usage is relatively low (recuperated energy helps further). System is so clever, that when you drive steadily on petrol engine directly and battery gets full, it will switch petrol engine off and instead of wasting new energy it will drive purely from energy stored in battery (even if we drive eg. 120Km/h). Once battery discharges (not close to 0 , but to safe value to prolong its life) petrol engine turns itself on and whole cycle repeats. Petrol engine never slows or speeds too much as this would mean leaving optimal working condition (and burning even 2x more fuel). Instead we either store extra energy in battery or take it from battery (surplus of energy stored earlier or from recuperation). Plain simple at the end. Even recuperation works efficiently as wheels are connected directly with powerful electric motor (no gearbox). Extra good news is that petrol engine is never stressed too much, but operates steadily around its optimal conditions. Thanks to all of this Honda offers warranty up to 300K km as there is not much to break (electric motors are rather reliable parts). We will see how it translates to real life.
    Also real 0-100km/h in sport mode is close to 7.0 sec not 8.
    Acceleration is great because in practice it's basically an electric car with 184HP/315Nm, so not weak at all. It's not typical hybrid car at all. It's more an electric car where big battery (which is still far too weak and problematic for worldwide adoption) is replaced with petrol engine acting as generator. Very different to Toyota's system.

      In strong acceleration, both motors do work together still to generate power, but u say that in strong acceleration just the electric motor powers the wheels?

    • @SOMEONE-ME
      @SOMEONE-ME ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@autogefuehl In strong acceleration petrol motor always work, but it powers generator, not wheels + you get current from battery. Only electric motor powers wheels.
      As I said- in Honda system either electric or petrol motor powers wheels. Never both together. Petrol motor only powers wheels in specific conditions as mentioned and it's never in stress or slow speeds (

    Great Review. I have this car since 2 weeks now :) (Elegance trim) Great Car. When my wife is driving in city the fuel economy is 2,5L on 100km!
    And the sound is comming from the speakers - not engine (In Sport Mode)
    If you are in Normal or Eco mode it is much quiter (and economical)

    Thank you for your review. Excellent as usual. I would really be interested in this car in particular it's hybrid system. 2 question though, if we assume this lithium ion battery is much smaller than a normal hybrid system ( in your review you observed how quickly it filled and emptied) will the battery go through the 3000 charge/discharge cycles which is recognised as the beginning of the end of it ability to hold full capacity much sooner than normal ☹️.
    Because it's a smaller battery will it then be practical and cost effective to replace it as it nears the end of its life 🙂
    I would appreciate your thoughts.

    Thanks for the review Thomas! Was really looking forward for your indepth review of this Honda Civic since it is a candidate for me. As far as I understood that fine engine noise is actually fake, it's pumped through the cabin speakers..it's artificial 🙂 doesn't matter though..sounds nice 👍. One aspect I'm really interested in -- from your perspective (I'm due soon to take a test drive myself) is the sound insulation on normal highway speeds good enough? Or you consider it uncomfortable loud? Really looking for you answer. Thanks and keep up the good work! Greetings from Romania!

      I've been driving the basic trim (elegance - probably the best in terms of sound/comfort) for a month now and I'd say the insulation up to 120 km/h is great, up to 140 km/h is good (much better than 10th gen, I'd say above avg for non-premium but still not at level of premium cars, audi/bmw etc.), 150 km/h and above is below acceptable in my opinion (that being said this car isn't supposed to be doing those speeds daily and it's definitely better to go with normal premium diesel at this point). If you have any additional questions feel free to ask, happy to share!

    One of the best reviews of this car, as usual with this channel 👍👍 but just one little correction, the engine sound in "sport mode" is completely fake, in reality the combustion engine stays almost always at the same rpm, it only picks up at highway speeds but only with one long gear, there should not be a sound change.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes indeed thank you!

    • @Wilhem275
      @Wilhem275 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sound in Sport Mode is only enhanced via the sound system, but the RPMs you hear are what the ICE is doing in real time. In other modes will do just the same but without the extra echo/equalizing from the speakers.
      They tuned the ICE output-generator input with those varying RPMs mimicking a shifter, just to avoid the droning sound of constant engine speed, which some don't like (I would have preferred it). We can say the need for varying RPMs is artificial, but the basic sound is not.
      The single long gear will engage only at constant speed, not during acceleration (not even at high speed)

    I'm wondering if Honda uses port injection for this engine? Surely direct injection would carbon up the valves and intakes in no time in this application - starting and stopping numerous times for sometimes short duration. Running a cold directly injected engine on/off on/off sounds like a recipe for maintenance problems.
