Doug after seeing your recommended Poker books I picked up, and have been reading "The Course" by Ed Miller. By far the best and easily relatable poker book I have had to date. Thank you for the suggestion.
I can't get enough of the videos and learnings as well. I stopped watching netflix for binging this instead. Also, I have been on a winning streak past 6 times i went to play and I feel your channel has a lot to do with it!
As a recreational, small stakes player, I've learned more from listening to your thought processes (and your pup's) than any other log. I appreciate your work.
Happy St Patrick's day, Mr. McCusker. Good to see my fave poker vlogger make some coin, lovely 10/8 suited hand at the end. Also good to see Zeus with a couple of segments.
Very nice, Doug!!! I'm really happy the 10 8cc with trips held for a monster pot. 😊 I played a home game on Friday and was in for $500, down to my last $100, and spun it up to $660. It wasn't a huge win, but a win nonetheless.
I wish my local library had “The Course” but they don’t. They couldn’t even get it from another library nearby. I guess I will try Amazon or something.
Great videos Doug. Keep up the great work. Can you explain your 5th goal list in the beginning ( don't bluff strong ranges) or point me towards a resource to learn?
When your opponent is repping a strong range that connects with the board, don’t try to bluff as often. He most likely has something he will call with. Instead bluff more when his range is weaker and/or doesn’t connect well with the board. Attack weak ranges, avoid strong ranges.
Doug, Your approach and Playing style is something most 1/2 or 1/3 players should learn from. I think most players who play regular small stakes get into a mode of only considering a session a win if profit is above $1k and end up staying on the table and putting chips at risk. I play like you do. I set a timer and set a $ limit(I dont believe in running "hot" so that I have to stay more) but If I buy in for $400 and Have a $400 profit, I rack up and leave. thats 100% ROI. I truly enjoy your vlogs man! Keep up the good work. Also if you can incorporate some intangibles on maybe showcasing why bluffing too much on small stakes is not worth it, that would be great
I used to do that. Anytime I won a buy in or more I racked up immediately. I stopped doing that. If I’m playing well and feeling locked in i stay. I think if you’re a winning player your focus should be on putting in good hours. Because you know that hours=EV.
As I get older, my attention span decreases. I hardly ever play long sessions now, but when I do its because its an amazing game. There are good spots to bluff and I bluff more than most people think. At the lower limits, people payoff too much. No need to bluff calling stations, just value bet everything.
For a guy who was card dead a lot you did pretty good! Thanks for the cogent commentary, always educational. I’m getting excited about my trip. A week for tomorrow I’m on my way. I plan poker playing Tuesday through Friday. Gonna dance Tuesday night again.
Hooray for Zeus! I love his advice today. Lots of players struggle to identify good spots for caution; Zeus is teaching you to identify good spots for aggression. It's almost like he knows you better than anyone. 11:20 "I was betting top pair for value , I felt like I was out of line" "That doesn't sound too crazy. What was your hand?" "8-4 off." "Doug, you're a g-d lunatic." Stay wild, Doug, stay free.
Nice play all around Doug. On the KK hand where you called the 95 without raising, did you assume (like I did) at the time there were more A2, 67, A3, etc... than draws out there?
I like the bet with pocket 44 of 225. I was thinking 250 to make the bet look like a bluff. That’s the pretty much the only way your getting called there
He played the hand well, but I am never folding in that spot. He has a very wide range of hands he could play that way. He just happened to have the one I could not beat.
Great video as always. I play mostly tournaments with my friends and sometimes it's really tilting being card dead for a long time and having to pay bigger and bigger blinds. Is there any way to cope with this?
Your hand with the set of 4's. Your flop bet is too small. there's a diamond draw, straight draw and a queen there. Your small bet just bloats the pot for the people on draws and it doesn't cut off their pot odds. You're missing out on value for someone with a queen. You should be betting close to pot there. It doesn't change the outcome, but you're making it very easy for draws to get there on you and you're missing out on value for the other hands.
He bet into me and I flatted. Raising is a viable play and maybe the optimal play. He is likely to continue with all his range so I decided to raise on a later street.
“If someone plays back at me I’m going to be snap folding this thing..”
That had me rolling. I don’t even know why lol
I bet so I can snap fold 🫣

Great to hear! I really enjoyed his no nonsense approach. He has other books as well that are worth reading. Playing the Player is good.
You’ve taught me a lot with your blogs. I appreciate you continuing to roll them out!
Glad to hear it! I will keep making vlogs if you keep watching them. 😀
I can't get enough of the videos and learnings as well. I stopped watching netflix for binging this instead. Also, I have been on a winning streak past 6 times i went to play and I feel your channel has a lot to do with it!
That is awesome! Just send me 10% of your profits. lol. Im happy you are crushing it.
Great stuff, Doug. Always appreciate the content.
Thanks for watching
ZEUS!!!!!! Love his guest appearances!
Nice comeback the first day. Starting down $500 sucks.
Sweet to see you drag a giant pot the second day!
Even though I got stuck fast, I managed to still play my game. No tilt. Zeus always has something good to say.
Great content Doug. Keep em coming buddy.
Thanks, will do!

Thank you for the praise, I’m happy you found value in the vlog.
Hey Doug, been watching since the start. Good job!
Awesome, thank you!
My friend! With the ten 8 clubs card, give a raise of $40. I guess they looked hard when you showed your cards. Congratulations!
I think I was getting a good price to play that hand. It was the best hand I’ve seen in hours 😀
Nice job Doug. Always looking forward to your next vlog. Too bad you can’t take Zeus with you as he is a very smart dog. Love his input.
Unfortunately, bringing Zeus to the Cardroom may intimidate my opponents too much.
Happy St Patrick's day, Mr. McCusker. Good to see my fave poker vlogger make some coin, lovely 10/8 suited hand at the end. Also good to see Zeus with a couple of segments.
Thanks, you too! I can always learn something from Zeus.

It’s always nice to comeback and book a win. Congrats to you.
Hey Buddy, greetings from the UK, hope youre good, its always a marathon never a sprint!! cheers Fraser
You got that right! I am a tortoise too. 😀
I wish my local library had “The Course” but they don’t. They couldn’t even get it from another library nearby. I guess I will try Amazon or something.
its on amazon and will pay for itself very quickly.
Dude, nice touch with the Zeus commentary. Lol. That was unexpected and awesome. Very creative.
Glad you enjoyed! He is one smart 🐕
Harley (165 and 1 year on the 31st) and I wish you, your family a Happy St Patrick's Day
Harley is going to be huge. Zeus is 185.
👍 keep climbing to 10K!
That's the plan! One step at a time.

That saying is so true especially in poker lol
Words to live by.

Play as long as you are a favorite. I get tired easily so my sessions are shorter.
Nicely done, Doug! Patience rules the game most days. Happy to see Zeus too. Happy St Patrick's Day to you, and continued good luck on the felt!💪🍀✌
Thank you, Happy St Patrick’s Day to you.
Nice comeback Doug, especially after that first hand! I have an idea who it was 🤣
He is a regular.
For a guy who was card dead a lot you did pretty good! Thanks for the cogent commentary, always educational. I’m getting excited about my trip. A week for tomorrow I’m on my way. I plan poker playing Tuesday through Friday. Gonna dance Tuesday night again.
Card dead is a state of mind any two will do
Looking forward to seeing you when you are in Sacramento.

Aggression is key to solid poker. I tend to take passive lines to often. Luckily I have Zeus to keep me in line.
Nice play all around Doug. On the KK hand where you called the 95 without raising, did you assume (like I did) at the time there were more A2, 67, A3, etc... than draws out there?
I should probably just raise and charge draws. I kinda wanted the button to overcall or make a play, he was getting frustrated.
Another great vlog! I won a big pot the other night with ten 8 of Clubs too. Flop was A 10 10. All the money went in on the turn.
Oh wow! That was identical to my hand.
Doug #1 poker player
Thanks Jim ☺️
I'm with you on 💣 pots Doug but het at least you won that particular one🎉🎉
Being last action is a benefit. Many play very straight forward. Felt like a bet would get tons of folds.
Nice job Doug I should be so lucky. Constantly loosing😊
Try playing less hands in poor position and playing a little tighter.
Encouraging to hear about being card dead for so long.
Will help me be patient instead of trying to force action.
Being card dead happens. You can’t control the cards, but you can control how you react to it. Patience and discipline can save $ when you run poorly.
Great video as always. I play mostly tournaments with my friends and sometimes it's really tilting being card dead for a long time and having to pay bigger and bigger blinds. Is there any way to cope with this?
Sometimes you just have to play your position and look for weakness. Steal enough to stay alive.
Love me some Doug McCusker!
Aw shucks ☺️
Happy St Patrick's Day to you, Zeus, and family, Doug 🍀
Same to you!
Zeus is a gd poker genius
If only I can get him to put his toys away. 😂
Hey Doug. What’s the song you play in the intro of your Vlogs?
Emotional Mess by Amy Lynn and the Honey Men.

Subscribe people!!!
Doug, time for a different intro song, imo.
I like that song.
The song has a strong following. Give it time, it might grow on you. We're not a cult, we're a family
You are leaving a lot of EV on the table by not wanting to play bomb pots. That should be a huge part of your win rate in live poker
