This show is genuinely fantastic. It started out as a comedy version of a show we all love. But over time it has actually taken the original version and improved on it, adding development and depth to previously basic moments, while keeping the emotional depth of the moments the original show did well!

They were call for that if you search you probably find it, Toei Animation said to Funimation to redo that episode or they would lose the rights to anything DB related, that happen because everytime that Toei Animation try to take down TFS they fail, if was real illegal TFS would be no more.
I like to think that the original inspiration for the dbza Goku character came from the fact that the show makes call backs to the character Goku was as a child in Dragonball which was a comedy. So in abridged, they focussed Goku on the call back sections making him like he was in Dragonball but an adult. The irony was to make Gohan oddly grown up so that all the childish adults seem more ridiculous. Like Malcolm in the Middle. Problem is, when the mature character becomes the main character, the story telling has to go from a comedy to a drama. If the only serious character has to step up, the story has to be serious. It’s as though Cell being a mix of all the characters, makes all the characters realise how ridiculous they all are and forces them to become normal again. Such a satisfying way to end an “Abridged” narrative.

I really like the subtlety behind Goku's character... he viewed the entire Cell situation as a fight, turning Gohan into a similar mental representation as himself. Goku doesn't really know Gohan, he only sees him as an extension of himself. This situation is the first to make him stop and realize that Gohan is somebody different. Even Cell reacts to things in a manner similar to Goku, something that only reinforced that simple world-view Goku had. I'm interested to see where Goku's character will go from here. I can already see his sacrifice being about atoning for the way he inadvertently failed his son while taking responsibility for the fight that Gohan directly stated was supposed to be his.

Whether or not you agree with the necessity, would it not be more in character for Goku to apologize, especially after Gohan expressly yelled that it wasn't his fight? Cells little breakdown of how he views Gohan was.. amazing I wish he would've said that in the actual show. It brought to the surface a deep subtle hate I had for Gohan around this time.
The characterization is on point and has been throughout the series. Gohans rejection of his Fathers tendencies were the catalyst of his shortsighted hypocrisy. This episode was great.

The series has always had occasional somber moments, Trunks' transformation into Super Saiyan being a notable one, and this episode is the first time that took center stage, and I can't think of anything I'd change about it, except maybe a couple of the jokes actually seemed out of place given the tone of the rest of it.

Ron Bautista I grew up with the funimation only due to tv and sheltered upbringing, and the falconer music was what drew me in the most. Now that I’ve got it all on DVD, I usually do watch it with that music, but my edition of the DVDs was good cos it gave the combo of English voices with Japanese music... But I haven’t rewatched in a while, waiting for my partner to finish dragon ball...but when I saw this episode and heard the music, I made a point of checking and got it... I guess it’s just that I’m nostalgic for the falconer cut cos of my own tastes...I don’t mean to undermine the view of how good the jap music was...to each their own obviously :)
Yes, the bird was used in a similar manner to show that Gohan's passivism was flying away, and that the full potential of what was alluded to throughout DBZ was finally manifesting. Personally, I like how they gave Gohan no dialogue up to his transformation. For me it felt more raw and instantaneous.

The end of that episode 60, when the music starts: exactly like my reaction; goosebumbs, tears of joy and excitement. To me it was actually better than the original. They actually adressed all the importand character developements and made some characters even more complex characters. Also I liked how they mentioned that the human fighters at least always try even though they are way out of their league.

My God, Linkin Park jokes! Back in the day before TH-cam there were AMV's of DBZ primary made with Linkin Park song quoted by Cell 23:33. That's how I first got into rock. If it wasn't for either Linkin Park or Dragon Ball Z, I would not have been intrested in rock.
Linkin Park was the first rock band I ever heard. And the first 5 songs I heard from them, One Step Closer and In The End being 2 of them, I heard from Gohan SS2 AMV vids. This is my favorite part of the entire series, and I LOVED those references 💯

Good call for your wishes for the episode and that they turned true. I have really been fashinated by TFS´s interpretation of Perfect Cell. In Japanese media someone beliving to be Perfect are really fragile. Once they are proven wrong they just crumble into a empty shell. And this Cell have shown a lot of hints to his inner problems he obviously can´t see. And then ofcourse the combination of Vegeta and Gokus personality shows. Cell belives Goku is the ultimate fighter and the only one to understand him. As they showed in thier fight. It is just so good. I am planing stories and my own comic book that might or might not become a concept or not. But I am writing a lot of notes for the characters and I know that you need to make them see themself, meet thier own weakness and show them coming out of it diffrently. I think Gohans inner transformation here is beautiful. I mean I have and am much like Gohan. I don´t like violence in real life. I hate war. But I know if I have to, if I face someone who I belive only will respond to violence or if that is the only way to stop them hurting someone there and now I whould jump in and take the hit if I could. Not becuse I want to. But becuse I don´t want them to get away with it.

Who knows how long it'll be before the next episode airs so I just couldn't help myself and immediately went to watch The Unleashing which is still one of my favorite episodes of Dragon Ball Z.
Its funny to find geeks when watching reactions to TFS and alike and how people share this sense of exploding while seeing a huge moment not just because its cool but because they really feel it, even more when its not a sad moment but one of bravery made in a subtle way that you need to have a real connection to the show or the style to feel it . Awesome, it has been a whole year after all. No doubt they're taking the two weeks for Part 2 in order to add finishing touches or make small changes to refine the episode, and will do the same for the Finale. So, we will get to see the rest of the Cell Saga within 4 weeks.
Don't get your hopes up on that. Even if they were to consider it, the Buu Saga is a lot longer, and would no doubt be done by 2040. I don't see it happening either way.

Thank you. You're the only reactor I've seen so far to appreciate unmei no hi. Seems averyones only familiar with the funimation cut. Cell and 16's speeches and breakdown of gohan's character flaw absolutely made this epusode for me. Can't wait for the next episode
Ron Bautista I grew up with the funimation only due to tv and sheltered upbringing, and the falconer music was what drew me in the most.
Now that I’ve got it all on DVD, I usually do watch it with that music, but my edition of the DVDs was good cos it gave the combo of English voices with Japanese music...
But I haven’t rewatched in a while, waiting for my partner to finish dragon ball...but when I saw this episode and heard the music, I made a point of checking and got it...
I guess it’s just that I’m nostalgic for the falconer cut cos of my own tastes...I don’t mean to undermine the view of how good the jap music was...to each their own obviously :)

Yes, the bird was used in a similar manner to show that Gohan's passivism was flying away, and that the full potential of what was alluded to throughout DBZ was finally manifesting. Personally, I like how they gave Gohan no dialogue up to his transformation. For me it felt more raw and instantaneous.

To me it was actually better than the original. They actually adressed all the importand character developements and made some characters even more complex characters.
Also I liked how they mentioned that the human fighters at least always try even though they are way out of their league.

My God, Linkin Park jokes! Back in the day before TH-cam there were AMV's of DBZ primary made with Linkin Park song quoted by Cell 23:33. That's how I first got into rock. If it wasn't for either Linkin Park or Dragon Ball Z, I would not have been intrested in rock.
Linkin Park was the first rock band I ever heard. And the first 5 songs I heard from them, One Step Closer and In The End being 2 of them, I heard from Gohan SS2 AMV vids. This is my favorite part of the entire series, and I LOVED those references 💯

Good call for your wishes for the episode and that they turned true. I have really been fashinated by TFS´s interpretation of Perfect Cell. In Japanese media someone beliving to be Perfect are really fragile. Once they are proven wrong they just crumble into a empty shell. And this Cell have shown a lot of hints to his inner problems he obviously can´t see. And then ofcourse the combination of Vegeta and Gokus personality shows. Cell belives Goku is the ultimate fighter and the only one to understand him. As they showed in thier fight. It is just so good. I am planing stories and my own comic book that might or might not become a concept or not. But I am writing a lot of notes for the characters and I know that you need to make them see themself, meet thier own weakness and show them coming out of it diffrently. I think Gohans inner transformation here is beautiful. I mean I have and am much like Gohan. I don´t like violence in real life. I hate war. But I know if I have to, if I face someone who I belive only will respond to violence or if that is the only way to stop them hurting someone there and now I whould jump in and take the hit if I could. Not becuse I want to. But becuse I don´t want them to get away with it.

Just watched all of episode 60 all together for the first time. I thought dbza was gold before but dang, these episodes were freaking good...
It makes me cry almost everytime I listen to it.
Who knows how long it'll be before the next episode airs so I just couldn't help myself and immediately went to watch The Unleashing which is still one of my favorite episodes of Dragon Ball Z.

The episode took about a year and a half to air...ironically thats how long it took goku to arrive to earth from namik after he defeated frieza.

Awesome, it has been a whole year after all. No doubt they're taking the two weeks for Part 2 in order to add finishing touches or make small changes to refine the episode, and will do the same for the Finale.
So, we will get to see the rest of the Cell Saga within 4 weeks.

Any DBZ fan should be overwhelmed at that transformation. I've watched a ton of these react videos (which I never do) because I wanted to see if other people were as blown away as I was. Of all the reactions I've seen, I "approve" of this one the most. Which is a dumb and douchey thing to say, it's just super relatable.
