Howitzer style 30mm Cannon (HE part 2/2)

  • The problem is that the shell is too light and has low density, so it may not even reach 100 yards.
I made everything with 3D printing except screws, wires, and springs.
Q: "When it comes to targeting humans, how would it fare?"
A: "They might get angry. It's quite painful."
Well, over the past few weeks, many people have been curious about how dangerous this can be.

Not everyone with a 3d printer can "just do it" have you seen the tolerances of those prints? Also the surface finish. The dude either tuned his printer to perfection or has a pro grade printer like Ultimaker. Watch TH-cam closely, not mentioning any names but most 3d printer creator channels don't hold a candle to the quality this guy managed to output (some even "showcase" points with voids in them).

Heat might work if you’d put propellent inside the big shell and put a sub projectile inside it so it can point blank blast thru a wall

    • @canidaeSynapse
      @canidaeSynapse ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@catfwish I mostly agree, though he could make a HEAT shell that uses a liquid instead of a solid so he doesn't have to make a truly destructive jet or anything. That and making a HESH round might just be an air filled balloon that is squashed against the target and popped by a fuse triggering a CO2 canister at the back to increase pressure until bursting. Might work, might not work, but at least it isn't miniaturizing actual munitions.

The breech system looks very fun, and I really enjoy your attention to detail whrn it comes to safety, like that disconnect able plug to avoid any potential of a misfire.

my two cents on what could be done as improvements
+stronger spring on the shell ejection
    +mechanisms that can:
-hold the round in the chamber during loading and when the gun is at high elevation angle
-engage the ejection mechanism only after the round has been fired and the breech subsequently opened
+some sort of sealing around the projectile base so that less propellant pressure is lost during firing, or switching to smoothbore.
+probably a cradle to guide the round into the breech

What comes after 3d printed guns...
*Sigh* of course it is 3d printed artillery.

That HE round seemed to behave more like a SAP (semi armor piercing)... which is basically a high velocity HE with a thicker capsule to pierce light armor but still cause a large explosion milliseconds after impact. Unlike AP or APHE which has timed fuses, SAP will explode on all armored surfaces or rather in the armor plate it self and cause large unrepairable damage. if AP were to be used against similar targets an AP with go in one side and out the other with minimal damage. SAP was commonly used in naval warfare for the purpose of ripping and tearing small but decent armored ships like destroyers or cruisers of which HE would just splatter because they had enough armor to prevent damage but too little armor for AP to stay in the ship to do damage.

This is pretty cool. I've been thinking about designing a miniature cannon for a while now.
A little tip: you can rub graphite on parts that make contact to lubricate them

Why don't you put a metal ring on the edge of the shell casing, just like the wooden cannons of the early days?
I think that would prevent the shell casing from cracking.

This is freaking awesome the only nitpick is the reloading system would be cool if you didnt need to unscrew the primer and the shell getting ejected with more force/ by recoil automaticly😅 but dude thats just so cool ❤

  • @td23asus

Was wondering, I winder if making the shell case TPU could aid in gas sealing? When it fires, instead of the case having to withstand the pressure, it'll expand a little, sealing against the barrel and hopefully making firing more efficient.
