it simply comes down to the fact that Jerry did not want to cede any power to Belichick, Harbaugh, or any other high profile coach available. He's clearly not as serious about winning championships anymore if he's concerning himself with McCarthy's winning percentage in the regular season. They will be back here again a year from now and we'll be having this same exact conversation for like the 30th year in a row.
I hope I'm alive long enough to see him hand the reigns to his son and watch the team finally have a serious shot.

In general, it needed offense to score 24 or more PLUS plays at critical times, especially in 4th quarters.

Dan is absolutely 💯 correct. Aside from the embarrassing playoff loss at home to a 7th seed, the best teams they beat were a fading Eagles, and a fading Dolphins team. When you have good coaches as options, you don't pass on them for McCarthy.

The Dolphins beat the Cowboys (22 - 19) on a last second, 30-yard FG. The game’s outcome was a bit controversial because of a penalty called on Micah Parsons that many thought should not have been called a penalty. It allowed a Dolphins’ drive to persist, which led to another Dolphins’ score, and ended up seeming to be the difference in the game.
Mike McCarthy is just a figurehead lol. So replacing one figurehead with another and expecting a different result is the answer?
Dak Prescott lost that game, just like he's lost every playoff game. Blame coaching all you want. Dude looks shook and scared every playoff game if they don't instantly get a lead. He's the ultimate front-runner quarterback.
I think the entire reasoning is and has always been "Jerry wants the lions share of credit".
Jerry DIDNT get the "lions share" of the credit back during the 90s run, so he fired Jimmy Johnson. And has since basically only hired B-level coaches (minus Parcels).
Had he hired Belicheck or Harbaugh, and they won SB, it would be same as the 90s: Belicheck/Harbaugh would get the lions share of the credit and that hurts Jerry's feelingz.
Give the Cowboys a tough schedule for once and Jerry will see whose fault it really is.

Its true - the Cowboys could have a first round bye and still be eliminated in the wild card round.
I can definitely see why Jerry kept him:
1. He keeps the Cowboys relevant. They area good football team, and for Jerry, that's enough.
2. He is compliant. He let's Jerry be Jerry, and be thee franchise's leader and spokesman
3. Jerry doesn't really care about winning Super Bowls. He'll just take credit for Jimmy's 3 rings.

Not sure where you're from, but Cowboy fans have been complaining about Jones for many years. Since Jimmy's departure, actually. He (Jones) had the worst drafting record in the league. There were seasons that Dallas had the least number of starting players from the draft in the whole league. Not until recently (last 5 years or so) that the drafting has significantly improved (Parsons, Diggs, Lamb, Bland). Jerry has turned the draft over to his son, Steven.

Prescott had his best year as a QB and the team went 12-5 to win the division. Both he and McCarthy are in the final year of their contracts and Dak has a no trade, no franchise stipulation in his. This was the only move the Cowboys could make. It's pointless to bring in a new coach and start a new system in Dak's final year. I hope they bring in a running back and run stopping linebackers.

If he wins a wildcard game and then loses the divisional round, Jerry will give him a raise and a 5 year extension .

Based on the coverage, Get Up and ESPN don't know there is any other team in the NFL. If the Cowboys win that is all they talk about. If they lose, the Cowboys are all they talk about. I've never seen so much time given to a team that hasn't produced anything for decades - not anything beyond the regular season. When they lose, it's never because the other team was really good. It is because the Cowboys played badly. Jerry Jones must be paying off Greeny or the network because, Bulletin, there are other teams in the NFL that are soooo much better than the Cowboys, but they get no respect from the Get Up crew.

Imagine being a coach who for the past three straight years has a 12-5 record each year winning your division two out of those three years and people advocating for you to lose your job. That's how bad it is. We've been through this literally with every head coach for the past 20 years with the Dallas Cowboys. They're so quick to say team's not performing get rid of the coach. Oh, they're still not performing to get rid of the quarterback. Oh, they're still not performing. Get rid of the coach again. They're still not performing. Get rid of the quarterback rinse cycle. Repeat!! And guess what's the only thing that hasn't changed general manager ownership!! But that's okay. We're going to give the real culprit the pass.

If Jerry brought in Jim Harbaugh to coach this team, Cowboys would have been SCARY. Now, we know what's gonna happen: they will win anywhere from 10 to 12 games, they will MAYBE win a playoff game, and then they will get bounced. Terrible decision by Jerry Jones to keep McCarthy
Not a lot of precedent for getting rid of coaches with that kind of winning record. Maybe Marty Schottenheimer maybe Jim Caldwell with the Lions or Andy Reid with the eagles. There’s actually a lot of great coaches that never won or even went to a Super Bowl so I definitely understand the move
