As a pre-Jerry era Cowboys fan, the thing that has frustrated me the most about Jerry since 95 is him saying that everyone is accountable for the losses, including himself. That is the biggest load of BS ever. Jerry has no accountability as Team President/GM/Head Cheerleader. Who does he answer to? Certainly not the fans that helped him build his dream stadium and help make the franchise the most valuable in any sport, not just football. If the product on the field screws up, he's not holding himself accountable in any meaningful way. He talks a good game, but he doesn't really mean half of what he says. His goal is not winning Super Bowls anymore. If it were, a guy that knows how to make money hand over fist could figure out a way to win a ring during the salary cap era. He gets stuff done when it's important to him. Winning isn't even close to a top goal for him anymore, and he doesn't have the football people around him to win despite his actions. Jerry puts butts in seats and sells merch, and makes a ton of money for the entire league as a byproduct. He barely knew football when he bought the team, and that really hasn't changed in almost 40 years of ownership. Football as a business? Yeah, he knows all about that. Football as a game meant to be won? Not so much. He got lucky that Jimmy was his college roommate at Arkansas. He wouldn't have hired him otherwise. He got lucky that he bought in when he could still outspend everyone else on free agents. If he ever hired a real football guy to run the team, the Cowboys wouldn't stop winning with the resources Jerry can provide. He won't though. Even after 30 years of coming up short, the ego won't let him pin the problem on himself.

His handling of Johnson has not made me think that he pulls the trigger fast, quite the contrary, I think most Cowboys fans think he doesn't make quick changes because he can't admit something may have been a wrong fit. Jerry's ego preventing him from admitting that it may not have been the best hiring, just like with Garrett. The problem is it has been head coaching type issues. Tons of penalties, especially at the wrong times, bad play calls in end of game situations, and regular end of game management that makes it seem like they don't know what they are doing. The discipline with the team is horrible and it is quite frustrating. They haven't won against good teams. Their best wins were the Eagles, who they beat when they were in the process of flaming out, and Tampa in the playoffs, when the Bucs were a shell of themselves. They're frontrunners who can't win tough games, and as a Cowboys fan, I blame the coaching on that. It's so frustrating and has been going on for 25 years.

The frustrating thing about Jerry is I think he has actually done a pretty good job at acquiring talent. They’ve generally done well in the draft, and they rarely have really bad contracts or trades (sure Dak is overpaid, but that is the market for QBs). However, he establishes a poor culture and refuses to hire head coaches that will set their own culture. That’s why I think if it would have worked out (which it may not have), hiring Bill Belichick could have worked perfect - Belichick would have had to give away control of drafting players (which honestly he was not very good at) and Jerry would have had to let him establish a serious culture, and I think it would have been better for both.

What happened in Green Bay at the end of McCarthy's tenure is happening again in Dallas. Opposing defenses are calling out his play calls before they happen. Packer DB's were calling out Cowboy route combinations BEFORE the ball was snapped. The Darnell Savage pick 6 was really him jumping a route he wasn't even covering because the spacing on the play design was so bad TWO Cowboy receivers ended up in the same vicinity. The Jaire interception was him jumping a pivot route by Cooks because the play design was so obvious from their tape study that he wasn't threatened by the fake out (the first half of the pivot route). He just stayed inside Cooks and jumped the route to pick Dak off. McCarthy has not evolved. Nothing will change. Which is great for entertainment's sake, obviously.

Do not discount how easy it is whenever a DCoord wants to confuse the f...hq out of dak- too easy & they know his reaction- he just ignores what he doesn't understand/hasn't processed in real time & stays with the play even if the DEF is overtly taking that away... GOD forbid the day ever arrive where a DEF taking something away from Dak has to be subtle- it will be like everyone is speaking chinese all of a sudden & he can;t order his supper... the problem is that Fangio began with the Steve Owens UMBRELLA [NYGiants] & began to tinker with it eventually settling on what was a cover6 split field with a cov2 split field... this has evolved into the Trapezoid & Triangle or TRAP-TRI which can be flipped from strong to weak side depending upon where the WR [WR/ TE] strength is on the field... and in these coverages you do NOT have man or zone- you have RULES & unless you process info fast you are properly confused & Dak simply cannot process info fast enough so it's like the DEF Stars get out a color spin wheel or something & spin it & whatever color/whatever it lands on they all agree ok that is a look we will hi jack & then they proceed to do so- it's like a 15- 20 min study to come up with like a 1/2 doz SET PCES that you KNOW- oh when we get that look here's what we do- & then they proceed to do it bcuz Dak continues to make mistakes in year like 8- 9 that QB's are supposed to stop making by year 2... so he is like the polar opposite of wilson- wilson NEVER runs a play as designed EVER- he abandons the pocket & hopes he can make stuff up as he goes along so he NEVER makes a DEF READ & he NEVER goes thru a PROGRESSION- you literally may as well burn the playbook- everyone was so pissed off at Payton's play calling but after 5 weeks he had no choice but to SIMPLIFY the playbook bcuz wilson just ignores everything... so Dak is the opposite he also ignores everything the DEF is showing but what he does is instead of abandoning the pocket & play going full tilt improv on EVERY PLAY- Dak steps up in the pocket & sticks with a play >>> having IGNORED what the DEF is doing >>> he just goes ahead & executes the play anyways... so they BOTH get the SAME RESULT & any time a DCoord & DEF wants to shut down Dak or wilson it's easy peasy & that is the reason this happens everytime Dak shows up in a playoff game & his team mates KNOW THIS which is the reason that they quit as soon as they see OH SAME OLD SH*T as usual might as well check out bcuz that clown will NEVER READ A DEF & ALWAYS EXECUTES THE PLAY AS CALLED regardless of the emergent elements that are supposed to key you off of that particular look & go elsewhere- in the NFL = YOU TAKE WHAT THE DEF GIVES YOU... you take EVERYTHING the DEF gives you but you CANNOT just ignore what they are taking away- those are all PRO BOWL caliber players over there this isn't college or the reg season 5 guaranteed W's EVERY SEASON from within the DIV! As a Cowboys fan, I'll take the disappointment of an early exit from the playoffs in exchange for a good regualr season winning twice as many games as they lose. That's months of great entertainment. As long as the team doesn't decline from year to year, why are we talking about changing the coach? They got better is so many categories other than playoff wins this season.

Young also pointed out that Jerry has focused so much on the team's BRAND that when a player becomes a Cowboy, he feels famous. Nothing is earned.

LOL!!!!! Players aren't gonna listen to a coach on his way out. But, Jerry isn't worried about that because its his team, not the head coaches. (Hey, Kaepernick is still available to QB for the Boys despite it being awkward for Jerry after pulling that stunt with his tryout and costing the NFL 60-80 million settling with Collin.)

You missed one big thing. Which is that one of the big assets McCarthy has is that he’s willing to subjugate himself to the owner’s ego and suck up to the owner’s interference and meddling and power-grubbing. Jones wants to play “Coaching Director” and he doesn’t realize that it saps authority and power from McCarthy. IT’S PART OF WHAT IS PREVENTING THE TEAM FROM SUCCEEDING FURTHER.
I was a magazine editor and I had to deal with the same sort of “amateur” interference from the publisher. In publishing, there is a strong, hard line between the editorial side and the business side. The purpose of the tradition is to ensure agency, independence, and integrity for the editorial direction of the publication. The publisher is a business professional but not an editorial professional. When the publisher interferes and meddles and second-guesses and pretends to be a savior, and demands that his ego be taken care of, he’s actually weakening the publication. That’s a perfect analogy for the structural problem in Dallas.
It’s the perfect analogy for the problem. All those accomplishments and achievements you list with the Cowboy’s regular-season record are as much as McCarthy can accomplish without being the real leader of the team. He doesn’t actually have the full authority of a Head Coach. He is in effect the “first assistant” to the owner.
So one of the reasons Jones doesn’t want a new coach is that he’d have to break in a new guy as “first assistant.” You think BELICHICK would step into that part of the Dallas coaching requirement?!? You’re out of your mind. Belichick would never put up with that.

Jerry must've found out that Belichick is already headed to Atlanta, or somewhere else. I'm sure there's something like that behind this move.
