Giant TCR Advanced SL 2021 Review: New vs Old

  • How much do bikes change from one generation to another?
    The Giant TCR Advanced SL 0 is Giant's flagship race bike, used by Team CCC and Greg Van Avermaet at WorldTour level. We compare it to the last iteration of the same bike, and look at how the design has changed.
    The Giant TCR goes back further than this, though. It is a piece of cycling history - the first frame to introduce a 'compact geometry', with a sloped top tube that increased stiffness, improved aerodynamics and reduced weight.
    Lining up against the likes of the Trek Émonda, Specialized S-Works Tarmac and Cannondale SuperSix, the latest TCR needs to boast some impressive numbers, and Giant doesn’t disappoint.

    I've heard from many people that Giant has the best reputation for making good press fit bottom brackets unlike other brands

    The video suggests that cable integration and tire clearance are improvements this generation. Last gen's TCR SL did have models with disc brakes and wireless shifting and this gen's TCR has models with rim brakes and mechanical shifting. Giant is among a few (maybe only) remaining major bike manufacturer to offer buyers choice b/w mechanical/wireless shifting and rim/disc braking for its top spec (i.e. SL) race bikes.

    GIANT BB's DO NOT CREAK THEY KNOW HOW TO MAKE A BIKE....

    • @justinkuk546
      @justinkuk546 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. This could have been presented in a more balanced manner. Pressfit is superior to threaded BBs. Creaking is symptomatic of poor frame manufacturing tolerances, thus manufacturers moving back to heavier, less stiff threaded bottom brackets are trading-off fewer warranty repairs with lower performance.

    What is the tyre clearance for the previous generation (2016) of Giant TCR Advanced SL?

    Ill take a rim break TCR over a disc on any day. Im no pro cyclist but ever i can tell the difference in ride feel, and responsiveness between the two. Skrew the the industry pushing disc brakes on a road bike. Just my two cents.

    If external cables are bad for travelling, how about the non-removable seat post?

      Gotta say, isp looks 'cool' (?!) but yeah, totally impractical, quite a silly idea

    Absent the slow cruising boat, pigeons and ducks video bombing the review, it was very informative... btw, pigeons and ducks are camera hams... they always manage to make sure they’re in the camera... lol...

    Awesome video !! I don't see why the Trek Emonda would be faster just because it comes out a few weeks later, that's not what makes a bike faster lol

    Also, PF86 is not an ideal for bigger (30mm or 29mm) axles like with SRAM. bearing size gets reduced and doesn't last as long.

    Don't you think we're not seeing any Dura Ace on the top end bikes because Giant doesn't want to make a huge purchase order of DA components knowing very well that Shimano will release a new DA 9200 next year.

    • @chrisprotzman6637
      @chrisprotzman6637 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure, plus everyone wants the latest and greatest. So when the new dura ace comes out then all bikes with the old dura ace will be dated

      Hi Andrew,
      I’m 6’1”, 175cm and I rode an M/L, but tend to favour shorter frames because of my specific fit. It fits fairly squarely into a typical 56cm top tube geometry.
      Hope that helps!
