Thank you so much for this video. I'm a multimedia artist and animator who's been diving a lot more into 3D animation and 3D modeling/3D printing, plus my mac has been really chugging for my gamedev work and my Editing and Mograph work! I was looking for a simple video that could explain what an eGPU can do for me. VHS effects like the one in this video hog up a lot of memory and it drives me nuts, I'd love to work a LOT faster in all of my interests and job titles I juggle. Plus, when you're working on solo films with a ton of moving parts like C4D, blender, and vector stuff, things bog down SO QUICKLY. I once had to leave a freelance job because my computer couldn't handle any of the graphics elements for a 2D rig in after effects, it SUCKED. Tired of being slow af or being the last artist to be finished with their shots. So THANKS for the run down!
Using an NVIDIA RTX 4090 with your 2019 iMac i9 9900K could depend on several factors, including the compatibility of your iMac with eGPUs, macOS support for NVIDIA cards, and the specific eGPU enclosure you're using. Apple has limited native support for NVIDIA GPUs in recent years, so performance might not meet expectations, and drivers could be an issue. It’s a setup that might require a bit of research and testing to see if it works as intended for your needs. If you have more specific goals, feel free contact Apple they are going to be the ones to be able to provide you with the best support.
Hello! Thanks for this video! I have an 2019 iMac 27" i9 with Radeon Pro Vega 48 8GB. Should I use a similar brand/model for my eGPU? I mostly do video editing, AI upscale, and 3D renders (hence high gpu usage). Which one would you recommend? (I read somewhere that NVidia is not compatible with this). Thanks! P.S.: When I connect an external GPU, would this mean it'll use both internal and external? Or just the external?
That would indeed be a pertinent question to direct to the card manufacturer. Our role is to provide you with the enclosure, but we acknowledge that detailed specifications and technical knowledge about the card itself are outside our area of expertise. We aim to ensure accurate information and want to avoid any possibility of providing incorrect details.
ohhh, nice video, it helped me to narrow my options... looking to help my old Intel MBP on my Machine Learning projects, but I see that most of the given frameworks only support CUDA (so, nVidia), so, probably not my thing... Everything points out that, in the future, the Apple Silicon-based computers are also not an option. I guess I will need to switch to a GNU/Linux machine for ML, so, it seems my new computer won't be a Mac.
You could downgrade to High Sierra and set up the NVIDIA eGPU with the guides online. Another option would be to dual boot windows and use it that way. Both will take an hour or two to configure but you can definitely make it work. 👌
i can state that while rocM is making strides.. if your goal is to focus on just getting better at ML and AI projects... fiddling with a mac os based solution WONT be nice.. in theory you CAN install linux on the mac hardware but good luck getting that all working in stable ways... much better to sell the mac and focus on a rig that will run linux and nvidia natively (or easier)
It would really depend on what you are doing and/or looking to do with your iMac. Check out our External Akitio eGPU and they may be some help on figuring out what you may be looking for. eshop.macsales.com/search/?q=akitio
I would recommend checking out the info presented here by Apple, as I presents a lots of valuable info that can help with selecting the best and proper eGPU for you (support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544). Check it out and let us know what you think.
You don't have to use just Sapphire! All sorts of other graphics cards will work with this product. Here is a complete list of compatibility found directly on the AKiTiO Node Titan page eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/manuals/AKiTiO-Node-Titan-GPU-Compatibility.pdf
NO THUNDERBOLT!!! ONLY M.2 PCIe!!!!! btw unlike the Thunderbolt interface, Apple does not place any restrictions on the PCIe interface because they likely didn't anticipate people would open these Mac laptops and feed a wire right into the belly of the beast. Thus no software modification needed, it's fully plug-and-play!!
Will this work on my Late 2011 13" MacBookPro? (2.8GHz i7 Version 10.13.6) Not a gamer but I heavily use Adobe software including After Effects as well as Blender.
I definitely need this. The integrated graphics on my laptop won't even load the rest of this guy's mustache.
😂😂

I have a 2020 iMac with the 5700xt 16gb card, would this egpu give a reasonable boost?
In theory, yes, it could provide a boost. However, its effectiveness depends on what you will be using it with and how your setup is configured.
I hoped you would have more info about using eGPU with Blender on the intel mac mini
I have included a youtube video link below that should help th-cam.com/video/Rom6xvCiBDk/w-d-xo.html
I have a 2019 iMac i9 9900K. Will it be good if I bought an NVIDIA RTX 4090 placed on chassis? Will it work?

I need it for FCPX. It won’t help, correct?
Thanks for the vid!!!

What would you say is the best epgu that works wi this iMacs?
Graphics card and not chasis

So is the Radeon RX6600 XT the fastest card you can use right now? And which is the best brand of AMD to use? AMD or Saphire as pictured?

@@poweredbyowc page doesn’t exist.
its 6900xt but not sure it will fit inside the enclosure and it needs 3*8 pin power
Oh god the pointing and leaning with the same finger / shoulder is 100% 90s training video stuff haha this is great
does it have to be sapphire? will MSI work?

I don’t have knowledge about this
But I have a 2019 16 inch mac
And I want to connect it to an egpu
But won’t it undervolt?
Our Node Titan is compatible with your 16" 2019 Mac, These machines are designed to work and provide an adequate amount of power for devices.
thank you so much @@poweredbyowc
It doesn't work with M1?
Hey Wender, Thank you for your question.
This is not compatible with the M1.

will this work with the imac 21.5 2011?
Unfortunately, the AkiTio Node Titan requires a host machine with Native Thunderbolt 3/4 support to operate effectively.
can you use two gpu's?
This is designed for : One full-length, full-height, and double-width PCIe Card
great video, thanks mate
Your welcome.
Is that your real mustache?
