  • MONTESSORI IKEA KITCHEN HACK// Are you looking to set up a Montessori functional kitchen for your toddler? Do you need ideas on how to make the IKEA Play Kitchen Hack Working Sink?
    Montessori at home can be difficult sometimes, but if you have appropriate toys set up for your kid to play with, then implementing Montessori teachings methods shouldn’t be so hard!
    My son Joey just turned 18 months and we have been having him helping us in the kitchen with a Montessori helper tower. However, we felt it was time to get him someone on his own, something that could make him feel more independent. After all, that’s what the Montessori approach teaches, independence.
    While searching for new Montessori activities for toddlers, we came across the Ikea Duktig kitchen. We knew that a Montessori kitchen setup involved more than just a kitchen of wooden food toys. We knew it had to be an actually Montessori functional kitchen. After doing a bit of research on how we get the Ikea play kitchen working sink, we found the easiest way to do it, and in this video, I will show you the option that worked for us.
    I hope you enjoyed watching this Montessori toddler Ikea Play Kitchen hack & tour with
    Ikea Duktig Kitchen Play: amzn.to/3uAVoFL
    What we used to get the sink to work:
    - Rechargeable electric water dispenser pump:amzn.to/3ZheVIX
    - 1 gallon plastic Jars (2 pack) : amzn.to/3NXQZUx
    - Stainless steel kitchen funnel: amzn.to/3MqZndU
    With this Ikea Duktig kitchen hack, we will teach Joey to wash his hand before and after eating, wash the dishes, and also we will have him wash fruits and cut them!
    Extra items we purchase to enhance the kitchen experience:
    - (Alternative cutting board amzn.to/3fLzgDS) -- the one we used is currently out of stock: Wooden cutting board (we removed the stove panel): amzn.to/3xlPJFm
    - Wooden Kids Knife: amzn.to/3zfmeGC
    - Turkish hand towels: amzn.to/3zn099e
    - Kitchen pretend to play toys stains steel (we will not us the plastic toys since we will be using real food in this case): amzn.to/3xo8bNr
    - Empty plastic refillable lotion soap (we wanted to get a glass bottle instead of plastic, but he is still to young and he get obsessed with bottles so it wasn’t clever to get glass for now): amzn.to/3Tquuu0
    - Bamboo scrub brush with a ceramic holder (to wash his dishes): amzn.to/3zl1HQL
    I hope you took some ideas from this functional Ikea play kitchen! We also want to add more functional things to the kitchen such as a mini-fridge or something like that. I’ll be sure to document it as well!
    THANK YOU for watching!

    Thank you so much for the video! We actually figured out that you only need one container below the sink. If you can fit the tube underneath the funnel and then you have unlimited water without having to switch the canisters!

    I love to see your kid is enjoying this set. I am wondering the faucet does’t move when kids press? Is this staying well without adhesive something like duct tape, velcro or glue??

    • @Gabyinspiredlife
      @Gabyinspiredlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! The water pump does moves a bit, but not much since there is really not room for it to move much on that surface. My son press it down quickly and I think he does not even realize that it moves or does not bother him because it’s just a quick move and that’s it! If your kid feels uncomfortable when it moves then yeah I would try to put some adhesive :-)

      I haven’t glue it. It is placed on the surface (loose) since it’s easier to remove to wash it :-). If you prefer definitely glue it and for cleaning you would have to use like a damp table cloth or something like that. We like to just wash it fully in our kitchen sink.

    How did you a fix the faucet to the kitchen? Any problems with water damage from water getting outside the sink.

    • @Gabyinspiredlife
      @Gabyinspiredlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I removed the plastic faucet that came with the kitchen and placed the electric water dispenser instead. The kitchen wood already had two holes to put the plastic faucet, which made it easier since I used one of the holes to pass the tube that came with the water dispenser.
      There is no water damage so far, the wood seems to have a coat of paint to protect it, but I'm not sure how long it will last. We were thinking of adding clear contact paper to the surface of the kitchen, but we will wait until we see it's necessary :)

    How did you make this waterproof. I did the same hack for my 18 month old and the wood is already starting to split

    • @Gabyinspiredlife
      @Gabyinspiredlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t make it waterproof although I knew something could happen to the wood since it was not made to use with water. However, it’s been holding up fine. I’m trying to be as fast as I can to clean and absorb the water immediately.
      I am only seeing a bubble in one of the doors due to the wood having an small crack (came like that).
      If the bubbles keep appearing in other places, I might add some transparent contact paper to the surface to see if it helps a little bit or some special waterproof seal for wood (waterproofing paint coat) which can be another option too, to make it waterproof. Ask at Home Depot to see if they can give you some advice on this :-)
