I’m obsessed with Japanese culture since an early age and the food is especially healthy. I love bringing Asian (generally speaking) food to school whenever I get a chance. But I e always wanted to make actual bento meals. This will be great when I actually get a bento box

My husband has been missing Japanese food a lot lately. He’s lived in America for 2 years now and I think I’m gonna start making bentos to make him happy and to make healthier lunches for myself!

My boyfriend insists the pre-packed snacks he’s been buying are enough but he’s outside doing hard labor as an electrician & I’m ignoring it cause I KNOW he needs more than that but just doesn’t wanna inconvenience me or something…I’m definitely gonna do these since they look amazing! Great video & recipes 🖤🖤🖤🖤

Sometimes, when you're used to not eating, it takes a while to become accustomed to having a meal at an irregular time. It might make him tired or sick at first. But eventually, his body will adapt. Then he'll appreciate it because you really do need to eat well working hard labor.

The sauce used on the chicken finger and pork cutlet bento is called tonkatsu sauce. It's reminiscent of a bbq sauce in the north american mind and is easy to make by mixing ketchup with worchestershire sauce until you get something like the consistency in the video. My wife especially likes extra black pepper in hers.

If you have an Asian market or a grocery store with an aisle dedicated to ethnic foods, you can often find it there. The typical brand is Bulldog, and I've heard stories that before it was packaged for an international market, some people referred to it as "bulldog sauce" when they first encountered it because that was the only English on the bottle at the time.
If you're looking for another substitute, honey barbeque sauce doesn't taste quite the same, but it hits the right flavor balance of sweet and savory and works really well.

It’s amazing thanks for sharing. Just having one confusion: would you heat up your lunch by putting the wooden(or bamboo) box into the microwave? It’s a pretty box but I don’t know how to hear it up at work. No sure if it’s microwave safe. Thanks so much and looking forward an answer

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel

We don't heat up this bento box since it's not microwave safe. It's still good without heating:)
Sometimes, I do when I use microwave safe bento box. But, mostly I enjoy slightly cooled bento which I like the taste. My husband says cold ones taste even better. (It's not really cold, it's like room temperature.)

If your bento box is microwavable, you can warm it up before eating.
About the rice, I use short grain rice, and cook normally.
