I think it is partially electric popularity and as well the Honda's diagonal spit case (on the GCV160) with the 4 gasket long bolt carb mount, finally caught up to them along with the EPA rules. We'll see, but it's much harder to stand out from the crowd in the electric mower landscape. Honda made awesome gas engines. Having ball-bearing wheels gave them a little advantage, but honestly, they are way behind on electrification. I don't think they foresaw how much homeowners would like mowing with electric. Just pop in the battery and go. Many homeowners I know went back to mowing their own lawns because it was so much more pleasant. Plus all the tool companies with lots of battery electric experience started making mowers like Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Kobalt, Ryobi, Skill, as well as battery electric only companies like EGO, Greenworks. That's just way too many brands.

      @@SmallEngineDIY They certainly have. I can fix anything and maintain my equipment really well so I knew I'd be too old to mow before my gas mower died. I bought an electric and sold my gas mower a few years ago. I still have a big commercial scag zero turn in the shed, but honestly like mowing with the electric much more that I rarely use it. My electric string trimmer is way better than my old gas (older commercial homelite). Its throttle is really precise and has tons of power when you need it. The leaf blower isn't silent, but much quieter and once you go electric you find yourself having a different process because you're not avoiding restarting your equipment. Never need to run out and fill the gas cans. I'm not sure for commercial, but it certainly works great for the homeowners.

    After almost 15 years with a top of the line Honda mower and not a single repair needed decided to purchase a new one before they stop production. Not so good luck with the new one, out of the box defective. The compression release mechanism is not working making it very difficult to start. Unfortunately Honda nor Northern Tool will replace it but requiring me to take it in to their shop. The GCV200 has the cam internal with push rods rather than overhead cam. With the new set up the engine requires complete disassembly to replace the cam and compression relief mechanism. I am disappointed to buy a new mower and have the engine completely taken apart and reassembled. Unexpected from Honda to ship it with the defect. The pull cord abruptly stopped when I first pulled it so hard it bent the keeper on the handle. I purchased a Honda battery charger to make sure the battery is fully charged. Have you encountered this problem? The mechanic at the shop said they had just completed one and that the part is on backorder. th-cam.com/video/MPvxokO1YII/w-d-xo.html

    The small engines for mowers are all going away eventually. I have a GCV 160 engine on the shelf for future applications should I need it, but right now my Tecumseh and Briggs engines are still going strong with no issues. • @WJCTechyman
      @WJCTechyman ปีที่แล้ว

      Kawasaki engines are about as reliable as Honda, but the Honda GXV160 engines are easier to maintain and simpler in design to similar sized and power Kawasaki engines as there isn't the need for filtered pressure oil lubrication, parts are readily available in most places without special order (I had a Kawasaki powered Deere walk behind and parts were pretty uncommon for those and it had issues like a missing fuel tank, the ignition was temperamental and caused the machine to often not even run and I had to special order the tank and filter and they were expensive as well for what they were). There's a good reason we see Honda engines being copied because Honda got the GX engine design right and it became the standard. Besides lawn mowers, you don't see Kawasaki on much. Actually, if anything, I see more Kohler.

    • @campbellpaul
      @campbellpaul ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WJCTechyman Hondas tend to have part issues before they go bad. Replacing the cables (I hate Honda cables), the spring blade clutch mechanism, the wheels, the overabundance of hardware which is time consuming work to take apart.. also the seat inside the carburetor is not replaceable on Japanese-made models, so you can only "re-surface" it with a drill.. the whole ends up worth less than the sum of its parts (even though it is still a "good" engine)..
      Also, the engine models are hard to distinguish with too many immemorable numbers in different locations on each engine (you can't count on finding the right part if you search "GCV-160" for instance).. But.. if they are cheap, I'll buy them all day long!

Some of the new ones are coming in AWD with a super nice cut quality and x blades that can mulch the clippings really fine that no bagging is needed. No running to the gas station with a jerry can in the trunk. I know Honda has the same x system, but Huskies are just regular old single blade. The way we mine for Lithium is about as detrimental environmentally as the Alberta tar sands. Lithium batteries are not nearly as recyclable as lead acid batteries and are also less forgiving when being dropped or punctured. I dropped a lead acid battery and it had a leak. A little baking soda on the puddle and containing the battery I was able to get a replacement. Do the same to lithium type batteries they burst into flames.

    Suspect eventually they only make engines. Never trusted their mowers anyway- they always seemed like toys.

    Hate to hear the news. I have owned Honda power equipment for years and years.. Best product in my opinion. I guess i'll fly my Honda flag at Half Staff.

    None of this battery powered BS makes any sense. There will be big problems in the landfill years from now. I’ll be purchasing a new commercial gas powered mower and taking good care of it!

    Honda is not going to sell in the US anymore, the rest of the world still gets honda mowers.

    Japanese manufacturers are very long sighted planners. It's obvious that EV's are getting more popular and even though EV's aren't up to snuff with their gasoline counterparts the consumer is being very patient and excited over the new clean technology. I'm gonna be patient and wait to hear what Honda is going to do. So far rumor/gossip says that the North Carolina plant where they make the mowers is being retooled for the higher margined ATV's. I think Honda is planning a battery factory for all of their small engine equipment or adopting some other energy technology like hydrogen or maybe tooling a carbon fiber rubber band that can get 3200 rpm in one wind and run for hours who knows?
    yuk yuk yuk!

    I'm sure the lawn mowers are probably the least profitable product they make compared to the others. And they are probably going to vastly increase their ATV and side by side production because they see didn't no matter how expensive or option loaded outdoor ATVs or 4x4s and side by sides and so on but they manufacture did they put as higher prices they want on them and they will still sell tons of them. People have been brainwashed with commercials into buying products like this that cost as much as a vehicle and some people buy multiples of them. So why would anybody waste their time and their employees profit potential by building lawn mowers? I never cared for Honda lawn mowers anyway because as far as replacing the parts it's so much easier to find Briggs and Stratton filters or whatever everywhere. And Honda lawn mower engines are very finicky because of a couple of extremely fine things built into their carburetor system that other brands don't have. And this makes Honda lawn mower engines hard to start and you can still pull the carburetor off and clean it but it is not the same as other carburetors and if you don't know what it is you'll just buy another lawn mower because it's a Honda. The internet has allowed people to understand the problems with this lawn mower engine that make it finicky but not a bad engine and they've been teaching the rest of us so they're not selling his main lawn mowers as they were because people are fixing their own so now they're going to sell them more profitable product. Which is normal business, you're not in it to failure in it to make profit just like every other company. They have Honda leadership could figure out what the hell to do with their cars that are deadly falling off the market. 🤔🤣

    Worst mower I use. My Dads qualcast is far superior.
    I use Qualcast, Hayter, Flymo, Honda and a new one that is a superb machine. A Hyundai HYM510SPE
    The 2 Hondas I use are both pathetic and only work when the ground is 99.99999% dry and the grass is no more than 2 or 3 inches high.. If not it's 1/4 to 1/2 bags, dropping lumps of grass because it's stuck in the flue..

    Honda is discontinuing the use of OHV motors in their lawn mowers for a variety of reasons. The first is that OHV motors are less efficient than newer designs. This means that they use more fuel and produce more emissions. Additionally, they are louder than newer designs, which can be a nuisance for some homeowners. Honda is also discontinuing the use of OHV motors in order to move towards more environmentally friendly options. Electric and battery-powered lawn mowers are becoming more popular, and Honda wants to be at the forefront of this trend. Additionally, Honda is also working on developing hydrogen-powered lawn mowers, which would produce zero emissions. Ultimately, Honda is discontinuing the use of OHV motors in their lawn mowers in order to be more efficient and environmentally friendly.

    I called Honda and talked to a rep. Made a video as well. They said single stage snowblowers as well as Honda mowers will be discontinued. 🪦 soon they’ll discontinue generators I bet and small engines. Just focus on cars and atvs. More profit for their pockets

      @@SmallEngineDIY crazy to me. Especially since they been making them since 1978. Obviously they had demand of them. Where will people go now for their mowers
