It's probably too late for me! At almost 63 years young, I was recently diagnosed with some kind of not so good heart disease. My Calcium Heart Scan score was 462, which means that I have a good amount of plaque around my arteries and in them. Even though I was active, and only 20 pounds overweight, apparently my contemporary western American diet (and i'm sure, genetics) was killing me all along. I thought I was 'invincible' and healthy until this latest 'bombshell'. Now i'm a 'ticking time bomb' that could succumb to a heart attack or stroke any minute... any day... any week... any month... any year, etc. etc. etc.! Sure, I ate a decent amount of Greek food my Yiayia and mom made for us all these decades, but it wasn't enough.
It’s never too late to turn your life around. Genetics are not everything. Change your diet. Start eating a whole foods diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. No processed food. Limit meat and dairy products. Exercise on a regular basis and keep a positive mindset. Don’t forget, it’s you who can do the change and can turn around your health for good. Don’t give up on yourself. All the best!
I lived in Athens 2yrs and any time I got a chance to go to the village or islands..the wind couldn't even keep up with me. I live in a small country town in the States, and it's like living in a village. Definitely wouldn't go back to city life. Great videos, efharisto!!!
I am Greek, live in Piraeus and work completely online for a Greek company. I do miss my colleagues sometimes, but there is no way I return to my old workplace to the office. The benefits of working from home for me are far more important than interaction with colleagues.... I do everything at my pace, I enjoy being at home, without commuting I have time for other things like stress free morning walks with my dogs at the beach, and if some day I don't have much work I can even do some chores or gather something to cook without wasting time as I would if I had to be in the office doing nothing. Thus, weekends are really mine for going out and enjoying, instead of having to do the chores and everything a house needs. Yes, it is also true that some days I work more than the usual 8 hours, but I don't care as I do it from the comfort of my home... I wouldn't change my life for the pre pandemic style...
Good morning dear Daniel, another enjoyable video. Finding myself, avery morning, awaiting for a new video from you. Much more interesting than the Euro football compotision Tnx..
and NO, i am not in house arrest - someone replied this to me, but couldn't find his comment to reply directly. i do go out every day, i go out with my friends, and many evenings i go out with my office colleagues to hang out and keep updated on our lives. i don't need more money for working at home, actually, is as i got a raise, as i don't waste money on bus / metro / taxi and the almost daily "orange juice + tyropita". so i earn more money now than before. i already had everything required for working online at home, didn't have to buy anything new. and as far as my job is concerned, maybe AI will do my job in the following 2 - 3 years - this applies also for yours. good thing is that i am reaching a point where i will retire, so maybe would be better if YOU worry about AI, as i will not see it replacing me. kakentrexia tou kolou, opos tha legame ellhnika.
Lived in Europe several years, and frequently visit now days. The thing that I really miss is the “cafe culture “ in its various forms. Some places in the US have tried to make it work, but I think that US businesses are more interested in their bottom lines to allow customers to spend any real leisure time at a table. For the most part, people here just won’t slow down…for whatever reason. Now, once one retires, that can be a different story…but still no cafe culture.
Greeks like to stay and have talks with one coffee. Abroad they look at you for staying to long at the table with your one coffee. You need to spend more money😂😂
When people in North America think of Greek food, they think of Souvla and Gyros with Greek salads that aren't really Greek salads. The last time I visited Greece with my father, the first thing that we ate was Fried Fish, Vlita, and a Horiatiki -- sat by the seaside. Such a wonderful balance that made me very happy, nostalgic, and missing my Father every day.
From South west Finland. I live in a great place for me. It would be nice to live in Crete but so is our home area. I have no raison d'etre for Crete. It's just my favorite spot . The world is filled with beautiful places. I can get a vicarious kick from watching your videos. How do you handle the orthodox faith? It seems to be a big part of Greek life. You look so Greek that you represent your new "home country" very well. 😊

Hey ! First of all, great job on the videos. They are fantastic and very pertinent. I was wondering what you think of Argos. It's just around the corner, but very little content on TH-cam and on the web generally. Thanks for your time ! And thank you for showing people what a beautiful country Greece is !!🫶

Nice vid. Hopefully in an upcoming episode you could mention what taxes and health care is like eg. the accessibility and cost if any associated with it. Thanks
Hey. Greetings from Romania, I’m watching your videos and I like how you present your life in Greece. If I may, I would like to suggest to you a topic (if you’ve covered it already, signomi 🙂) related to faith. I mean, you being Venezuelan (of catholic faith I presume), living in a sea of orthodoxy there, I’m curious how you managed that. Some information about what to do or not to do in Greece from a faith perspective I think would be useful for those who do not know about it and come to Greece. Looking forward to seeing your work🙂. Adio sas!
I am from Belgrade, and there is a reason Serbs love Greece. Here, pollution is a great problem, and living where this problem is more under control is important. The only problem with living by the sea in some places (Montenegro, Dalmatia) is that people live only for summer season, while everything else is dead during winter. I don't know if desireble Mediterranean countries like Greece or Turkey have managed that.
In Greece, the answer to your question is, "It depends." The cities are active year round. In fact, during the summer, the cities are quieter than usual since a lot of people go on vacation. In the countryside, however, things are different. Places like Mykonos and Santorini turn into ghost towns in the winter (Santorini has 15000 permanent inhabitants, Mykonos has 10000).
I'm Greek and I live in the countryside by the sea near a big city in Pelloponese.I use to go out every day even during winter because we're used to, there are many sunny days in winter, there is no pollution, and it's part of our colture.
I'm a new subscriber and I'm loving your channel. I'd like to know how you get to Nafplio? Fly into Athens? And then... Thank you! I'm from Oregon in the USA
I’m a greek living in Pittsburgh. To get to Nafplio you fly to Athens and from there it is a two hour drive from the airport. There are many transportation options. Nafplio is one of the best places in Greece in my opinion. You won’t be disappointed!
Your vids are very helpful. I’m a Canadian and seriously thinking of applying for grad degrees in Greece in about 3 ish years. I really hate little bugs do you guys have problems with them in apartment s for instance. Also is that constant breeze a real thing even during the hot times like right now? I appreciate any advice thanks!
If you want to come to Greece as a student you'll probably live in Athens or Thessaloniki. There, you'll find the same kind of bugs that can be found in any other city. The amount of bugs in your apartment can be reduced by living on a higher flour, putting mesh screens on the windows and any other opening, and keeping your apartment clean. As for the breeze... During August, Greece has the "meltemia" which are steady northern winds. Other than that it's pretty situational. I must say though, that if there's a heatwave no amount of wind can make you feel better.
Is there a way people who relocate to live in Greece can connect with other people who have moved there ? I’d love to retire to Greece and it would be wonderful to connect with other people from the US who are there. If you have these connections, it could make living there a little easier.
The last winter was mild in Greece. It seemed like an autumn. My neighbors are from Austria, and they spent all the winter on their patio outside... They came here to Greece for the better weather.
Biggest downside in Greece is the bureaucracy related to public sector & government agencies such as tax office, hospitals, police, public administration etc. All dealings related to government are very stressful & time wasting. Too much red tape, bad and inconsistent service by government employees etc. even for simple tasks & paperwork that are usually done electronically in other countries.

what do you mean? what is the news saying? Greece is one of the safest countries in the world!! Fact!
Because tourists go on hikes in the 40+ degrees sun between noon-6pm. So ya, it is quite unsafe when you do that.
Tourists going on hikes when there is a heatwave has nothing to do with a country being safe or not!
