If you have USB 3 on your computer the Elgato Cam link capturecard works too. An advantage with the cam link is that it seem to see different cameras without having to manually change anything.
Your video saved me from not only buying equipment I did not need but it saved me a lot of time as this is for my org. Thank you for your helpful explanation!
Very clear. The other tutorials have only left me confused and uncertain how to proceed. Even the kind of cord to use to connect my hero 5 black to the Ultrastudio Mini Recorder became clear to me. Thank you.
Great, understandable overview. I am starting to cut the cables a bit by using NDI Spark Connect units. It removes the cable but also removes the capture card, lowers the port requirements and allows more mobile setup.
Like every one else said, this is the best tutorial explaining how to do this on TH-cam, however, you didn't explain how to watch the live chat so that you can comment/answer questions in the live stream. You mentioned not to watch the live stream while broadcasting so that you don't have any interference, but how can we monitor comments?
I would like to install an outdoor cam...from my street... with mic. And stream it in youtube? Any help? Still can't figure it out how! All outdoor cams are wi-fi and they don't have any HDMI exit but use SD-card for storage... It seems there is no video on how to do it :(( Anyone can help me out?
For that purpose you might want to look at something that is a little more all-in-one like the mevo or something. That way you could set it up and leave it running!
I do have a couple questions: 1. Does the Go pro charge while it is plugged into your PC for connection If not, how do you keep it charge for events that may last for long periods of time? 2. I know you obviouspy will need a Wi-Fi connection for this but what if you're trying to stream at a venue and you don't have Wi-Fi what would your alternatives be? Im trying to setup live streams for concerts
I've been asked to do a livestream for a conference. I've never done it before and your video SURE HELPS A LOT. A few questions though: 1. You mentioned hooking up to TH-cam and such, but how do I get out the word in advance on what youtube URL to look for? If TH-cam assigns a URL at the time I set it up, how would the viewing public know where to go? 2. The only way to connect to the internet is through a hotel wireless system. Will that work? Or am I missing something here? Obviously we have to have some sort of connection to get on TH-cam, and my only option is a relatively fast wireless connection. Thanks for a simple instructional video .. sure helped me grasp the basics. WIll be purchasing your recommendations.
Hey - the TH-cam interface will have all the needed info when you create a new live stream! And I would avoid WiFi where possible but it is it your only option then perhaps do some tests with it to see what kind of quality you can actually stream
Great instructions, very clear and every step leads to the next level with no conceptual gaps at all. Thanks for the work and organization that is quietly evident.
What an excellent tutorial, especially your explanations, very down to earth and minus the BS. If you'd like to expand on your audio input I'd recommend you check out the Saramonic SmartRig, it's capable of working with low and high end microphones, sends phantom power if you need it and is a very good clean, cheap preamp. Cheers, Dave.
Cant seem to get it working. I have a GoPro Hero 6 and all the required components but for some reason the video is not showing up. My system recognizes the Black Magic Device but not the GoPro.
Not many cameras or laptops will allow for that - Even if you have an HDMI connection on your laptop it is for video Output only - Though you could, of course, use a webcam which was work over USB straight to your laptop!
Hey John I am from Germany, so I live ~0.5 an hour away from the Official Thomann shop. (Because watched your flight-case video and you bought something from thomann)
I have a problem, I am using the same equipment as you. but the obs only I take it as a video capture, not as a black magic device. also shows me the time of the video and the battery
Hi,Sir. I bought a ultrasound recorder 3G, and tried to connect to my laptop lenovo y540”, but I couldn’t. it was not detected. I used thunderbolt 3 cable with Blackmagic Converter Setup ..but it shows FIX USB -C Problems in windows...plz solve my issue
I know you have an AverMedia capture device. That is a cheaper option, especially for PC, using the USB2 out. But is very laggy. You should have a try, need to then be careful with audio sync too. Real world cheap option issues. P.S. thanks for your videos, I have learnt lots.
I can't either. Did you ever get it to work? GoPro7, Black Magic, MacBook Pro 16" and Catalina. I've tried this on High Sierra and Mojave too. 4 different computers in my home and none of them will work
i have a problem with my gopro heroblack 5.i connected with the same capture card and at the obs,i select blackmagic as my source but i dont have video from my cam.
Hi, huge problem with the gopro because when i put the booter usb in the same time, it's displayed a screen with the message i put the booter usb... And impossible to cancel it.... :( solution please ?
I found Wirecast to work very well for me with no issues - and I think the UI was a lot clearer. That said I made this video a while ago and now I use neither Wirecast or OBS - both of which have had lots of updates since this video was released!
thanks for video do you know what set up would work streaming a live railcam for railroad? not sure of you tube vs own website, thanks any help would be great new to this thanks
ok so you need to have the mini recorder or else it wont work? Also, if you need a mini recorder, are there other cheaper options? Lastly, what is the max quality you can get with the gopro hero 6
Absolutely brilliant.. very simple to follow.. great job.. I wish you were based in London so I could invite you for help in live streaming some of the events I cover.
I have no wifi in the church. Can I use my mobile as a hotspot using 4G. Would that work ? Your video has been exceptionally helpful and I have spent 2 days trying to find this solution. Thanks
Great video ...Today TH-cam gives you option to stream live without the obs or some other studio program ...just connect to the camera in creator studio on TH-cam..only one thing is that you wish to have better quality camera connected, not the one you have on your PC :D ..... As well you can live stream from your smartphone it has good quality cam , but again there is one problem ,you need to connect a mic to your smartphone and this is also some kind of problem , or you want to connect the sound mixer to your device ,if you are a DJ or for some live musical event ... That again its going to cost you some.. Was looking for the cheap option for doing so...and again thank you for sharing its good video very helpful.. ...
+Kendrick Ortiz you can simply plug in the GoPro to a power source via a USB cable and it will run from that. I'm not sure if it will charge the battery but it will at least not use the battery. The setup in the video will not charge the GoPro as it is only connected via the HDMI cable.
That is not a feature with many cameras. This camera for instance will only charge the battery or update software when connected via usb. Perhaps newer GoPros have that feature but this one does not.
Thanks. I only have Canon dslrs. They all have both hdmi-out and usb-out so I guess I can connect these directly to the PC (as I do when using them for photo booth) I thought maybe the BlackMagic device had a compression function or other functions to optimize for live streaming.
@@phcphcphc You should definitely try it, but my experience with Canon DSLRs has not been so good. Often the HDMI out has On Screen menus and the USB-out is for a low frame-rate photo capture. Let me know if it works though!
Both arguments make sense. I will try direct link first, before buying a capture device. Did you see my question on getting the mic closer to the speaker ? I guess a Hdmi to Usb with mic input woud be good for this. The Magewell USB Plus has the option I can see.
Either two capture devices (blackmagic in this video) to translate the HDMI separately, or another option if you don't need both GoPro visible at the same time, is a basic HDMI switch like this one preview.tinyurl.com/yaohq4cq
+Usman Ndako not quite. You will need some sort of interface between the camera and the computer to convert the HDMI feed into something that the computer can recognise.

i wonder if its possible to stream with using gopro connected to phone with wi-fi? or could it be possible to connect gopro to s8 with usb (s8 has that type-c/female usb dongle)

just buy a usb webcam to connect directly to the computer. An extremely popular webcam is the logitech procam for around $50 on Amazon ($45 on sale)
Try using that for anything more than a talking head. You run into the cameras limitations really fast.
