I was born in 01, mom and dad told me that the 80’s was the best years of their life. I wonder why🤦♂️…. I wished today, like to go back in time where it was simple. People were just living life and having fun. We the people don’t have it no more, it’s all undivided attention. Wish it was simple just like the 80’s👍
It truly was good. I was 20 in '85 and 85 to 89 were the best years of my life thus far without a doubt. Work, entertainment and social life was tops. Shopping was also so much more fun than it is today. We didn't have as much, as things were more expensive in relation to our incomes, but rents were much cheaper. Getting a new coat or pair of shoes was epic.
It’s nice seeing people enjoy themselves at the concert and dancing and singing along instead of everybody, holding up cell phones and standing there emotionless. God I miss these times. Great performance by John Parr and the band.
As a Brit we never had anything like high school graduations in 1985 (more common now) but still it's a sing that's considered an anthem of the 80s especially US Rock, even though John Parr is a Brit. Definitely one for the ages!
he sounds like his David Foster performance (th-cam.com/video/rWgtOwdH41I/w-d-xo.html) and something like this one (th-cam.com/video/LgtEf30JeYE/w-d-xo.html). also 4:13 his lips are sync'd with his lyric tempo and that's not in the original recording or that ending
Oh no words can express how I feel about this song for the last 4 decades but despite Johns feelings the film too. My darling sister died in ITU 05/11/21 and I played our fave rock chick songs - this was the last song she heard and took her last breath to Jan Adlington I can’t bear it all without you - my sister my rock chick companion
This is why I am in love with 80's music. Almost every song has its own story and awesome honest voices. I am not sure, but I think this live performance is in a same key that a studio recording. Most of nowadays singers do studio recording in higher tones (keys), that they can actually sing on a concerts. I cannot believe, that this video has only 12k views!
Stevie W.: Those were BEAUTIFUL words really.I honestly have no words at all for the man or the lyrics. For me vocabulary will ALWAYS remain short.Im saying this song has lots of feelings people.Ands to never grow old.2019.But what really hits me is the film just like the songs name.I have it just because of the song, which was the one who made me buy it.Every time I see the film every time I cry like the first time.If we all connect the circuits we have all lived that life just like the film.If not? Similar standards.
That’s awesome! You can climb the highest mountain brother! What an inspiring song for us all! It seems those without wheelchairs accomplish less than those in wheelchairs. You ever see the movie “he won’t get far on foot”? Check it out
That’s what most of the musicians from the 60’s through 80’s we’re like, knew how to play instruments as well. Unlike today, no work ethic or true talent.
This is a grandly motivational you-can-do-anything rocker. Musically, “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)" is also right in that weirdly-satisfying mid-80s radio-rock zone. The pulsing dance-pop synth-bass that runs all the way through, you can't deny.
so awesome he told the story of my fellow Canadian icon and hero Rick Hanson! i still love this song! so awesome! so bad ass! the passion! i got to meet rick when he stopped in Cobourg Ontario in 86 or 87, i was 6 or 7, was cool, i got a hat , he signed it, its some where with my moms stuff
I, always, loved the single and, this version is superb. Great tribute, to one of my country's most-inspiring citizens, the "Man In Motion", Rick Hansen.
I never knew this was the inspiration for this song. I was 15 when the song and the soundtrack for the movie came out. Wow.....one of my favorite songs. Way more meaningful now that I know the back story. Inspiring. Love to all and 80s friends with big ass bangs!!!
Listen to the words while watching this video: th-cam.com/video/69mRJAGU_Lg/w-d-xo.html John Parr saw Rick's support Van - on the side it said "Man in Motion". That inspired him and the song - he wrote the song that very same night after meeting him.
If only we had great music like this in 2024
That’s what you called real talent. It’s rare nowadays. Kudos to 80’s music!

I’ve seen John Parr live many times.
He’s from my home town Worksop
We’re very proud of him.
It’s nice seeing people enjoy themselves at the concert and dancing and singing along instead of everybody, holding up cell phones and standing there emotionless. God I miss these times. Great performance by John Parr and the band.
This was my high school graduation anthem the year 1985!!.
HOW LUCKY
The 80s were the best time to be a teen..and this song from St Elmo's Fire was my high school anthem when I graduated in 1985.
St Elmo's Fire with the cast of young hollywood stars..if you work hard you can make it.
Me too, love this song way back when I was still a teen
As a Brit we never had anything like high school graduations in 1985 (more common now) but still it's a sing that's considered an anthem of the 80s especially US Rock, even though John Parr is a Brit. Definitely one for the ages!
80’s teenage years, best ever and will never be duplicated.
SENSATIONAL!!!!!!! John Parr is just the best, especially with his amazing band!!! Nothing like 2024. Love him & them!!! xxx
Best ever!!❤🎉❤🎉
Finally, finally....after tons of lip synced "live" performances....John proves what we all know......HE CAN DEFINITELY SING!!!
he sounds like his David Foster performance (th-cam.com/video/rWgtOwdH41I/w-d-xo.html) and something like this one (th-cam.com/video/LgtEf30JeYE/w-d-xo.html). also 4:13 his lips are sync'd with his lyric tempo and that's not in the original recording or that ending
He did a great live version in a two day concert of 80's superstars. It was in the UK and probably done around 2000.
Not anymore. Age catches up with us all.
He really took care of business here
I seen him @ the Albert hall with foreigner 2018,he done a acoustic gig, good gig.👌
He killed it!!!
Good lord, that was amazing. To sing like that live while playing guitar and on stage, incredible.
Best decade,best music,best movies,and the best dressed generation ever!Period.The 80's!Lived it.Loved it.I will never forget it.Nuff said!
Me too..so great
Yes
This man, his band his style everything is simply epic and timeless.
He even did the Gillette "The Best a Man Can Get" song!
The hairstyle not so much...LOL.
Oh no words can express how I feel about this song for the last 4 decades but despite Johns feelings the film too. John Parr what an absolute legend!

Daniel M: Me either.
daniel, I agree with you. There are, however, more renditions of this song on TH-cam with more views.
@@leemosby2069 Generally speaking people like covers more than the original.
230k :x
I think you're right. Same key as the studio track. Which is even more impressive because he steps up the key for the final chorus.
Beautiful song and personal tribute to a remarkable person💪
Stevie W.: Those were BEAUTIFUL words really.I honestly have no words at all for the man or the lyrics. For me vocabulary will ALWAYS remain short.Im saying this song has lots of feelings people.Ands to never grow old.2019.But what really hits me is the film just like the songs name.I have it just because of the song, which was the one who made me buy it.Every time I see the film every time I cry like the first time.If we all connect the circuits we have all lived that life just like the film.If not? 4:51 - hits that note perfectly. Great singer, proper gravelly 80s rock voice!!!!
This is the year I was born and I’m sitting in a wheelchair too. Nice what he told to the fans, before the song started 🏆🏆
Hope everything's 👌
🙏💪🏼👍🏻. Thank you for sharing
That’s awesome! You can climb the highest mountain brother! What an inspiring song for us all! It seems those without wheelchairs accomplish less than those in wheelchairs. You ever see the movie “he won’t get far on foot”? Check it out
Some of the best singing I have ever heard. And what an amazing song.
What a legendary song - part of a soundtrack of a decade.
Rick Hanson is a true Canadian hero! i remember meeting him in 1987 in Cobourg, love this song!
John parr is bad ass this song is genius always makes me feel great and go on in an awesome mood.
He sings live as good as a studio recording.
👍
this is so true and im obsessed
I was thinking the same thing!!!
The David Essex of the 80s😁
That’s what most of the musicians from the 60’s through 80’s we’re like, knew how to play instruments as well. Unlike today, no work ethic or true talent.
Nostalgic, magic times.
Growing up as a Canadian kid in the 80s Rick Hanson and Terry Fox were heroes to look up to
三十年くらい前だけどフジテレビの世界紅白歌合戦の生中継でイギリスからジョン・パーが生ライブでこの歌を歌っている姿を見たけど渋くてかっこよかったよ
This song is awesome!! He performed it with such passion!
This sounds so great! And his dedication to Rick Hansen cleared up a lot of confusion people had about the words of the song.
Pat Torpey 여기서 드럼 쳤었구나. 낮은 의자...그래서 특이한 왼손 자세. 편히 쉬어요. 30년째 듣고 있지만 여전히 좋은 노래, 건반 소리가 너무 좋다.
80s the absolute best! So much raw talent and creativity. Thank God for the 80s !!!!
Your comment should have a ton of likes. The 80s really were the best!
I'd travel back in time to see this show. 😍😍😍😍
Holy moly that is Fantabulous! Reminds of John Farnham, also an amazing live singer.
👍🏻
This is a grandly motivational you-can-do-anything rocker.

Well said. Definitely got that mid-eighties vibe going on.
so awesome he told the story of my fellow Canadian icon and hero Rick Hanson! i still love this song! so awesome! so bad ass! the passion! i got to meet rick when he stopped in Cobourg Ontario in 86 or 87, i was 6 or 7, was cool, i got a hat , he signed it, its some where with my moms stuff

Simply Fantastic!!! We love You John and the gang! 🌝♥️🤘
Brilliant song & fantastic performance
Back when musicians had talent
totally agree, and didn't have to appear on a realality TV show
No need for auto tune.. the voice awesome!
Great song!
I, always, loved the single and, this version is superb. Great tribute, to one of my country's most-inspiring citizens, the "Man In Motion", Rick Hansen.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant performance by John and all the musicians onstage with him. His singing is just like the record. 😊
What a great voice, great song
Live that´s great, awesome song !!! #JohnParr
Wow 😃 he must have used every ounce of strength in his body to sing that

The Golden Years ! ❤
Fantastic coming of age song from back in the day, it always inspired me when it comes to doing adult things.
Extraordinária e Fantástica Canção e Apresentação
ALGO PARA A ETERNIDADE!!
Too good, no words❤️🔥🔥🔥
What a brilliant song and first class performance 👍👍👍
1985, the year I graduated High School.
Al ways love this song since the first time.
Hard to believe MTV was about the music!! I miss those times.
A GREAT MEANINGFUL SONG. GREAT JOB JOHN PARR
Probably the best song of 1984 1985 by far because it was on the radio constantly.john sounded great.
Love it
Every time i get goosebumps ❤
Fantastic performance! So nice to see footage of this one actually performed live back in the day, not just lip-syncing to the pre-recorded track.
Thought the same thing. So awesome
Matthew Ross have to agree 100 percent this was when music was music not auto tuned straight music
it blows my mind that he could sing this song LIVE in ONE TAKE, and he actually gave us the ending to the song!
He's lip-syncing in this video though 😂
Bobson, the slightly flat note at 3:19 begs to differ...
Extremely well performed. The curse if this song is doing it over and over for years destroys the vocals a little bit each time.
After all these years of trying to equate this song with the movie, I finally found out what it was all about.
Much respect!
me too
I wasn’t really into the movie
One of the best song from 80's..👌
Gives you Power
John was /is amazing ✌🏽🎸🇺🇸🇬🇧
Unbelievably awesome live!!!
What a voice!!!
You can't beat live great music awesome thank you 😊😊😊🎉.
Peak 80s! What a time to be alive. Looks sweaty in there too!
Incredible voice.
What a song and band oh those fabulous 80s!
This was the song in my brain when I played little league. Every triumph….every tragedy.
Wow wonderfo music of 80sthe best
Ich habe ihn 2023 Live erlebt stimme super, und mit über 70 noch in Top Form.
Amazing singer tells the truth about life thats what it's all about carrying on when life kicks you down
John was so underrated, but he has one of the world's most beautiful and recognizable voice
I never knew this was the inspiration for this song.
I was 15 when the song and the soundtrack for the movie came out.
Wow.....one of my favorite songs.
Way more meaningful now that I know the back story.
Inspiring.
Love to all and 80s friends with big ass bangs!!!
Das war noch gute Musik. Darum liebe ich die 80er. Eines der besten Lieder!
Provoque deserves a freakin' medal for sharing this. Amazing! Thank you!
All I need are a pair of wheels.!!! Makes sense now that he explained the inspiration for the song !!!
kenneth kimbroug it hit me on my 5th listen, it made sense!
Was even the kind to get on a bungee on his wheelchair pmsl, he's a hilarious legend is Rick Hansen, there's a video of it with Rock Mercer.
You broke the boy in me. But you won’t break the man.
Another literal reference to how the dude was broken, but never once broke.
Listen to the words while watching this video: th-cam.com/video/69mRJAGU_Lg/w-d-xo.html
John Parr saw Rick's support Van - on the side it said "Man in Motion". That inspired him and the song - he wrote the song that very same night after meeting him.
This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. I wish I was there to experience it
Recorded live in London at about 3am local time, yes middle of the night for all those there.
No auto tune here folks. This is the real deal never to be matched again.
I could listen to this all day
4:10 that guy is feeling the music. 😊
Leon R: Thats what Im talking about.
😆😆😆😆👍👍
🙏🌺💖🌺🙏
Awesome song still in my library
Never heard this version before. It's a great song!!! It's just so sadly underrated...
This has become my favorite TH-cam video, thanks for this!
A million likes for that dude at 4:09.
dude is REALLY in to the song! nice! rock on fingerless gloves guy!
Yeah, I see.
From a time when music was real.
Listening to this in 2024 and it's as if it was recorded yesterday!
4:49 - Parr singing his heart out and female looking like she doesnt want to be there 😂
Her friend was invited backstage, and not her.
Maybe she‘s a security person
Great 👍 song 80s...
Amazing !!
The song in the video is actually "Man in Motion". David Foster wrote the theme to St Elmo's Fire that is actually called "St Elmo's Fire".
Ok
I love this song, but I have to say, the rest of his catalog was just as good, really a shame he didnt go HUGE.
Wow... Now THATS how a band plays live
Man that is Pat Torpet on the drums ! What a legend! I knew it !
most def
Wow. That finale. 10
