- Hi all,
All product links are further down 😊 ⬇️.
Here is a video of me explaining some reasons why your Resin may be sticky after curing.
We jump into reasons which may cause these issues including Oxygen Inhibition, which is the most common issue with Photopolymers.
As mentioned, I may have missed some information accidently, I am still learning 😊. Also, I'm hoping the penguins made sense, I didn't want to keep saying scientific words 😂😂😂.
Although I demonstrate these problems using UV resin, the same issues can also be common with 2 part epoxy resin, however, one of the biggest causes of sticky epoxy is inaccurate measuring or not mixing correctly for the recommended time, always measure accurately and mix thoroughly (including scraping the sides whilst stirring) until your epoxy is streak-free and clear. Room temperature can also create issues with curing so be sure to provide a working environment which reflects the recommendations provided in your resin instructions.

I'm so sorry for using penguins as an analogy 😂🤣
That's a perfect explanation.
@cathyomalley2772 thanks Cathy 😊
😂 It worked for me.
Don't apologise! It helps people to visualise 'penguins! Brilliant video! Thank you!
Brilliant analogy! I visualized a bunch of cute penguins 🐧 looking at me😊
I have another tip!
If you're working with larger pieces, you might notice your flat pieces will bend and bow. This is due to uneven curing. Set your UV light up at a greater distance from the piece, 6 inches to 1 foot (about 15 - 30cm) away. Your cure time will be longer, but a bit more even. Also, set-up reflective foil or mirrors under and around the mold. I've made a folding mirror box by sticking cheap self-adhesive acrylic mirrors to a folder. This bounces the UV light around so it can hit the resin from more angles than just directly from the light above the mold.
Brilliant tips 😊😊😊 Thank you 😊
I just did a YT search on "how to fix sticky UV resin" and the first video I watched suggested putting the piece in water. I thought, "Hm. I wonder if that will work, and why does it work?" Then your video was next in line and now I have a better understanding of WHY it works. Thank you so much!
Something I noticed with my nails. Over the next few days, my nails will continue to harden. Also, when I have very pigmented polish, I have to use several layers. That's why some gel polishes seem thin and not heavily pigmented. It's really to ensure that the polish gets a good uv light exposure.
Your coverage of uv resin was excellent, Daniel.
Thank you so much 😊😊😊
Hi Daniel! Thank you very much for addressing this topic! I am one of those people who abandoned the uv resin a bit precisely because it stuck and the creation ruined and I didn't understand why! 😢With your video I finally realised the problem! 😅Thank you so much !! 👋👋
Yay, so glad it has helped Sabina 😊
Thanks professor Daniel. This has been the best class on UV resin I’ve ever taken. Thanks.
Thanks Mike 😊 Was nervous about this one 😂
Thanks so much Daniel, excellent explanation.
Something that might help someone; I had an extra nail lamp with a (plain plastic) broken leg, so I snapped off the other one and now use it upside down - under my clear glass platform setup.
So I'm using two lamps simultaneously, and don't have to flop the mold over for a second cure.
Watch your eyes if you try this, I have a dedicated opaque box that I use over all anyway - just in case.
Great idea 💡 Thank you for sharing 😊😊😊
Brilliant. Such good information. Thanks Daniel ❤
This is a huge help? I've got a sticky piece I will try this on immediately! Thanks!😁
My intrusive thoughts with the purple cabochon were like ✨pop it✨ 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Great video Daniel! Thank you for all you do. ❤
My pleasure! Thank you
Dollars to donuts, I bet the oxygen is why I've been having issues!
I've been making pieces outside(when it's still dark out) to ensure the nasty chemicals don't hang in the air in my home. I cure and cure and cure with the light(5 minutes is what it calls for, I bet the pieces have been going for 45 minutes each with some tackiness still).
I have a nice big clear flat container from the dollar store, perfect for charms! I'm giving it a try right now! If it doesn't work I'll move all the charms in it, cover them all with water and go from there.
Update, it helped a bit. I did the water thing with the light and it helped a little more. I had to leave for work, so I put the clear container with the pieces and water outside and I'll check on them when I get home tonight!
OK, so I need to thank you, profusely! I am using UV resin with glitter on a tumbler, so water submersion is not possible (it cures on a tumbler turner) But with your suggestion of a cover, and someone else's suggestion of mirrors, I put a clear bin over top of the turner with the light inside, and some aluminum foil underneath, and it's perfect! Thank you thank you thank you!
No penguins were injured during the making of this video 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Excellent video 🐧
😂😂 thank you 😊
You are my hero🙏THANK YOU!!!!!
perfect tutorial Thank you
Thank you for explaining the details of uv resin in a better way! I hadn't thought about oxygen interference nor water curing. You've helped me out of a "sticky situation " 😂😂
Glad it was helpful! 😊🥰
Awesome. I thought it was just me doing something wrong . I’ve tried several UV brands had some successes but frustrated with the sticky losses. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us!
Glad I could help! 😊😊
@debrakowalski9332
Another tip @daniel..cooper showed us was to pop our sticky pieces into a clear glass/plastic co tainer of water, and shine the UV lamp through that. It works like a charm!
I just picked up UV resin for crafting today for the first time. Thank you for your tips, you've almost certainly prevented me from making some simple mistakes.
Glad I could help! 🥰
I love the penguins analogy! The water technique is the one that I learnt from you a while back, and on the odd occasion if my UV resin piece is sticky I pop it in water. Ta da! 👍☺️🇬🇧
Yay, the penguins made sense? 😂
This is the best UV resin lesson I have ever watch, Thank You So Very Much, you just answered so many of my interrogation ! Take care !
Wow, thank you so much 😊
Great information, thank you.
Great information!
I learned this from some girls channel about 2 years back. I was going to give up before I dredged U tube looking for the solution. Works EVERY time now.😊
Thank you! That’s an awesome Tip❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh thanks for this, who would have thought just popping it in water would stop those penguins from shivering!! I’ve saved this tip to my little black book of tips, thank you. Hugs x Ann x
thank you!
Loved that those happy penguins bonded together!! Thanks for the great tips!!💜
You are so welcome! 😊
Excellent tips, thank you!
Thanks Elizabeth 😊
I only use resin to coat my polymer clay jewelry. The very first resin I ever tried was one that just wouldn't fully cure. I decided to figure out why and ,learned about oxygen inhibition. The solution I came up with was to apply a coat of Varathane over the top of my piece and give it one more cycle under the light. I'm glad I discovered this because I had to try several brands of resin before finding one that would actually fully cure. Thanks for sharing. I'm glad to have other things to try in case I have this issue again.
This is a super useful video, thank you! When I first tried UV resin, I had a sticky experience which put me off! But I've persevered and watching your videos definitely help! Enjoy your experimental videos and finished creations! Thanks!
Thanks Estelle 😊 So glad the vids are helping 😊😊
Thank you.
Thank you for these tips!
You're so welcome! 😊
Thank you so much. I have had sticky uv resin and now I know.
Glad I could help! 😊
WHOA! That water tip is GOLD!!! Thanks for this video Daniel!
I noticed black mica will have a hard time curing if you put in too much. The black absorbs the light and the mica reflects it. The first coaster I made was pretty and I thought it was cured, but woke up with a sticky mess.
Thank you Daniel. I was beginning to think I was stupid with UV resin!
Thanks a lot🙏🏻
Thanks a lot! You just saved me a custom piece! Used the water curing and it was my solution, Thanks again.....
Glad I could help! 😊😊
Awesome video and explanation. Thanks ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
You are so welcome! 😊 Thank you 😊
Sunshine is my favorite UV lamp. 😉
Thanks for the info.
Any time! 😊😊😊
I know this is my second comment but my charms came out so great today!! They used to accumulate so much dust because of the stickiness… thank you so much again sir you have really changed my life😭😭❤️❤️🌷
Yay, so glad to hear 😊
I've tried water curing on a few sticky pieces before. Some worked, some didn't. The ones that didn't I left on a shelf for 2 weeks, came back to them and they were fine. So even if it's still a bit tacky, don't give up yet. I also started leaving my mixed UV resin in a cheap jewellery box. Some of the deep bubbles when colours or additives were mixed in hard were being tricky. I left them in the dark box for an hour, came back and they were totally bubble free. I can't afford a vacuum chamber so now I mix in advance.
Awesome, yes, a viewer mentioned some pots they got from Amazon for this too, I must get some, it would make things so much easier and faster for me 😊
What a great tip! I never knew you could do that with the water! Thank you 🤩
Thanks for a informative video
My pleasure 😊😊😊
Brilliant, thanks so much, will be trying those tips 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Great info.
Thanks 😊
Thank you sooooo much for this! I'm new to UV Resin and you just saved many innocent penguins from the landfill due to my lack of knowledge. 😅
You're awesome!!!!
Glad I could help! 🥰
Thanks so much for all the information, I can't wait to try it.

Thank you for explaining!
Watched this as you suggested. Great tip thank you 😊
Thanks for the great video, and info, D ! You're a gem!
Thank you for this tip. Very helpful.
Thank you for this! I’ve been trying to spread around the water cure tip and no one believes me in My resin groups. I swear by water cure now.
Oh no, that's sad that people think you are lying! 😔 Ignore them!
Thanks for sharing so much information about this - I have had trouble with curing uv resin, and have been putting items in the sun when I can; however the last few days have been cloudy here and my uv resin wasn't curing - I am not a science person so your penguin explanation helped. I have given the process of putting my pieces in water and so amazed by this process. Someone in one of the groups I am a part of mentioned about the water and it struck me as very odd - not anymore. Today is another cloudy day here but I can move ahead with my uv resin and know that it won't be sticky when I am done with the whole water curing process.
Genius tips! I love the penguin analogy 😄. Makes perfect sense. I also love the idea of hiding failed pieces in to larger projects. I will never throw another one in the trash. Seems like a pretty obvious tip NOW! lol. Love your videos and appreciate all the work you put into them.
Absolute genius! Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Love your videos. They're so helpful. Thanks so much. Many blessings 🙌🏾 🙏🏾 ✨️
I bought a 40watt energy-saving lamp UV lamp for just under 9 € works wonderfully
Awesome 😊
@@daniel..cooper I wanted to send you a picture of the lamp, but I can't do that on TH-cam, which is a shame. P.S. keep up the good work
If you want to buy such a lamp, you have to pay attention to the wavelength
I have never seen the water trick. I will have to try it. Love your videos.
Thank you so much for the water trick, I will be using this from now on
Happy to help 😊😊😊
Great tutorial!😍 My biggest problem has been using to much pigment. I'm always thinking, a little more won't hurt 😂. Another tip, you can't use colored molds.
Thanks Lisa, great point, must be translucent 😊😊😊
The more pigment, the more amount of uv light, a a overkill uv light will do the job too
thank you for the info
No worries! 😊😊
Thank you so much for this video! I really want to revisit my UV resin now! 😁
What some great info! Thanks Daniel!
Thanks Carolyn 😊
Great video
Thanks Donna 😊

You're very welcome! 😊
Thank you! I think you might have just changed my UV resin life!
Thank you so much for sharing all your tips and info xx
Thanks Nicky 😊 Hope it helps 😊
101 ways to pick up a sticky 16:18 penguin. I needed this knowledge as a child my penguins gave me sticky fingers. Showing my age now so you might not understand. I am not sure if I watch you for resin tips or to go to sleep laughing. 😂🤣🤣😂 seriously I have a large bottle of uv resin that won’t cure. Disobedient penguins for sure I will use these tips to encourage them to get jiggly and lie down together 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
Great tutorial Daniel thank you 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks Mary 😊
Thanks Daniel, really useful tips there
Happy to help! 😊😊
