I must say the VN, VP were my favourite Holdens. I had both, VN was a the V6, very troublesome because of my lack of servicing. My VP was a BT1 excellent performance with the 5.0L independent rear SS trim & full HSV exhaust which sounded mint, these were real cars know pesky electronics, the only tech was ABS which was I life saver. I converted it to LPG because it was very thirsty, it actually ran better on gas for some reason, thanks for the video, brought back many fond memories 🇦🇺👍
Thanks for your message, I find VN VP to be a fun model, I still have both but I remember my first VP that was V8 with ABS and IRS, loved how it felt when putting it in gear… the BT1 would have been a great car…I saw a really nice VP Exec at all Holden Day that had all those options but wasn’t and ex Cop car, it’s in My all Holden Day video, there was also 2 VP Clubsports which you never see these days
To enhance the V8 from 165KW to 180KW, there was a different exhaust, knock sensor, recalibrated ECU and HSV Air Cleaner.. if auto 4th didn’t engage until 80km (guess that made it feel more powerful) but would use more fuel in the 60-70 zones
Thanks, there is so much more I wanted to put in, but added most of the main stuff.. a VP Calais at that age really would have been the ducks nuts.. you were very lucky
Fantastic. My father had a VP S pack as a company car (Dark Blue). Very nice back then. Also remember a neighbour had the HSV and ripped a good burnout one night.
@@GTZ05purchased it of the original owner being an elderly chap, about 4 yrs now it only gets used on the occasional Sunday and goes to a few car shows every now and then

@unclefester5418 now that’s a really good question, VP V8’s there was over 12,000 out of those id estimate about 1/4 of those so maybe 3,000 V8 for VP SS.. I forgot to mention in the Vid that they made around 200 VP SS V6’s for group 3E racing in 1992 to go against a Falcon SS which was basically an XR6. VN SS’s made for almost double as long was around 5,000. Bet there isn’t even half of the VP SS left now..
The buttons were moved around from VN & from memory VP series I the binnacle buttons were black with grey button inserts and series II had black buttons with black button inserts which matched better … so many little updates, VP II had the equivalent of VN Calais sound deadening in the carpet lining and VP Calais series II the inner top door strips were replaced with black items with chrome strips that were used on VR/VS Berlina & Calais.
@@jaredtruscott9198 thanks mate, not a factory option, the common one people made on the VN SS Group A scoop, the one that kinda looks like a big toilet lid lol…
On VP exec series one, there was a hubcap design which was different than what was seen in the brochure. I've seen it a few times. Do you have any info on this?
I think I know the hubcap you are talking about, I remember seeing a different design on a Berlina once that was specific to VP… I can’t for the life of me find any info on it. If I do I will let you know..

Very detailed video...My first car was in 1999 and was a white VP Series 1 Calais V6. Thought it was the ducks nuts as 18/19 year old

The VP S looks so good in the brochure shot.. I think we forget how lucky we were back then.. wonder if that HSV is still alive somewhere

I own a white vp ss. Had it 12 years. Lovely old girl.
Nice one, you got in before the prices went crazy… would love to do a video on it.
Yeah absolutely only going to go up.
@69gpavv hold onto it, hard to find good ones these days. When I got my first VP with IRS, I just loved the feeling of it when putting it in gear
@@GTZ05 Any idea of how many SS variants were produced ? I’ve had mine for 30 years and still love it.

pretty well done video, was hoping to see some calais international info tho
Totally agree, I think the international deserves its own video.. I will prob get one out just on Calais and Calais international someday
The hazard light and demister button changed position, as did the lower c pillar moulding.

I have a question regarding the bonnet scoops that are seen on the VP SS. Were they a factory option? Some VN SS's have them aswell. Great Video btw.

you forgot the vp hsv+6
There’s a lot of models I haven’t included especially on the HSV’s but plan on doing a full VP HSV overview for VP in the future

VN VP worst Opels ever…😂
They are Opel based, look quite different though and mechanically quite different.
