Been around Holdens all my life, my first car was a VN Berlina and ever since then I have always had at least one Holden. I have also owned a Ford, VW GTI and currently daily a current model Audi S3.
Being around Commodores for so long and being very observant in my younger years, I have a strong knowledge of Commodores especially the VN to VS range, having owned at least one of every model. I have also owned VT’s a VX and VE.

An great vid! Do u know if the SV interiors flowed on into some of the limited edition VQ’s? I think it was an SV93?
They did go into the VQ for the SV enhanced models and the SV90. By the SV93 they were based on the Devonish seats from the VP..
@@GTZ05 I cant remember if it was the SV93 or something else, but I know the car had the 200kw motor too. Those seats were the best thing I ever sat in. Very special car.
No climate control?
Climate came out for the series 2 upgrade in 1990
@@GTZ05 my best mate’s dad had a two tone Calais just like that but v6 and with the climate control. We loved riding in it.

Good video as always. Interesting to note, bench seat WB Statesman's came with Commodore steering wheel not the single spoke- the car featured here has had a single spoke wheel fitted. Good to see an appearance by a Leyland Atlantean.

When Tom walkinshaw took over from Brock he tested the body kit in a wind tunnel and like or love it it did make the walkinshaw Holden's more aerodynamic than the Brock commodores increasing performance and top speed. I wasn't a fan initially but the science won me over
It was designed to help Holden win Bathurst, which they did with the VL in 1990. Obviously worth it
Nice. I like the old Brock commodores but this was the better vehicle for that time
They are all great, but this being first of the Injected 5LTR is pretty special.
Nice vehicle, worth big dollars. A mate of mine owned a blue HSV VL SV88, and he regretted selling it big time. 👍😎
It really is a great example this car, I really love the SV88, the trim in them is more luxury than the Walky.
The last of the Statesmans. They went out with a bang though with this one.
They really were a great design
They were horrid things. Rough and noisy engine, awkward looking with the front track from the previous model and a HR sized steering wheel. Cheap flat grey wheel trims completed the picture.
Yet so many people like them for a lot of those reasons and they were the best seller at the time. I prefer the V8, transforms the car, but have also had the V6 but my preference is Berlina, Calais and the HSV variants

You’re 100% correct, not even the right Series lol, I also named a WN towards the end as a WM but at least that’s the right shape! What’s even more odd is Service NSW has the Grange listed as a WK.. 2009 BLACK HOLDEN WK P/CAR SEDAN which is wrong😑

It’s funny some people don’t like the straight rear wheel arches, personally I think it makes the car.
I just can’t picture a VN Without it. I like the squared wheel arches. The VN prototype 2 door convertible had round rears and and somehow it looked good on that..
I must say the VN, VP were my favourite Holdens. I had both, VN was a the V6, very troublesome because of my lack of servicing. My VP was a BT1 excellent performance with the 5.0L independent rear SS trim & full HSV exhaust which sounded mint, these were real cars know pesky electronics, the only tech was ABS which was I life saver. I converted it to LPG because it was very thirsty, it actually ran better on gas for some reason, thanks for the video, brought back many fond memories. What did Holden do to in hance the V8?🇦🇺👍

Thanks for your message, I find VN VP to be a fun model, I still have both but I remember my first VP that was V8 with ABS and IRS, loved how it felt when putting it in gear… the BT1 would have been a great car…I saw a really nice VP Exec at all Holden Day that had all those options but wasn’t and ex Cop car, it’s in My all Holden Day video, there was also 2 VP Clubsports which you never see these days
To enhance the V8 from 165KW to 180KW, there was a different exhaust, knock sensor, recalibrated ECU and HSV Air Cleaner.. if auto 4th didn’t engage until 80km (guess that made it feel more powerful) but would use more fuel in the 60-70 zones

Hey Jack, Happy to try answer, I did this back in 2007 so will stretch the memory. It’s ECU only on mine, everything else operates as a VP, this is basically the kit I bought off the shelf which allowed me to use the VT Transmission, there are some wiring diagrams that might help. v6conversions.net.au/product/vn-vs-wiring-kits/

@ckaparos I have a fair few, 4 VN’s, 1 VP, a VR, a VS, 2 VT’s and my daily is an Audi S3 for now.. most of the cars on my channel are mine.
Good video, well done, especially the cavalcade of models at the end. VB was released at the end of October 78 with models hitting the showrooms on Nov 78. I've been going to NSW Holden day for over 30 years, I've noticed over the years a transition whereby in the early era there were mostly original cars, but the pendulum has shifted to more modified vehicles.

I was close with the VB at least… I have nothing against tastefully modified cars, but when I see something to more original spec I have even more appreciation for them.. Dad had a VB SL/E 4.2L, 4 speed manual with optional central locking but no power windows. Was a fantastic car to drive, comfortable, not fast, but sounded great and loved the Freeway… The 253 V8 was standard for VB SL/E but that changed for VC.
@@GTZ05 Your Dad's VB SL/E was option pack 306 which was known as the European pack which ran the tall diff hence it's love of the open road.
We should have kept it, moved it on for a VN SS back in the day..I thought the central locking was cool back then and the retractable rear seat belts were a step up on Dads previous car. Would you happen to know the diff ratio by any chance ?

VH the last chrome bumper bar Holden. I have 2007 VE SSV, black everything, 63,000km. Love it. They may be hard to keep clean, but by jeez they look great. Great video mate.

Honestly I'd want the Iron Lion in it but if i found a nice 6 cylinder I'd definitely look at supercharging it i reckon. Its a bit of a pipe dream atm as i have a pretty nice VE SS thats a bit worked that i wanna sort some more stuff on....the neverending list huh😅

I used to have a VE so I know how awesome they can be. You’re right, the list never ends with cars, I guess that’s part of the pain and the fun at the same time…

I agree, but calling them what most people refer to them as EG: if you search VN Wheel trims on EBAY not much comes up, put in hub caps and the list is much larger, go figure.

What did you use to buff her up? Cutting compound then polish with buff? Looking good. She's definitely landed a good new garage home.
Meguiars ULTIMATE COMPOUND Colour & Clarity Restorer, it’s not to abrasive.. I use it for hand polishing also. Look forward to getting in on the road sometime soon…

They are Opel based, look quite different though and mechanically quite different.

I know, I’m lucky to have it, I should have a video up on this in the next few weeks, have done a few little extra things. Should be on the road in a few months if I make the time
The hazard light and demister button changed position, as did the lower c pillar moulding.
The buttons were moved around from VN & from memory VP series I the binnacle buttons were black with grey button inserts and series II had black buttons with black button inserts which matched better … so many little updates, VP II had the equivalent of VN Calais sound deadening in the carpet lining and VP Calais series II the inner top door strips were replaced with black items with chrome strips that were used on VR/VS Berlina & Calais.
I remember a lot of white ones he only said there was one made or maybe to hat was the sv89
Yeah all SV89 were white, the model before the SV5000 released in March 1989
What an experience it would have been to fly to the HSV factory and watch them assemble your own dream car.
Totally agree, I always wished I had got to see the factory during the early years, would have been a blast! Wonder how many original owners still on their VS GTSR, not many I’d say!
