Maschine and SP404 - the BEST setup! Sampling + Effects

- The ultimate set up for using Maschine and the SP404. You can sample to the Maschine from the SP404 and you laptop, and to the Maschine from your SP404 and laptop. You can do all this while using the SP404's effects. It's the best workflow!

Thank you sir, this is incredibly helpful. I had a question btw I use multiple DAW's in my music production so would I be able to use the SP-404 as an effects processor for not only Maschine but also Logic Pro X and Ableton Live? or would it only work the effects with Maschine in that scenario?
This is definitely one of the more helpful Maschine to SP videos out there. Can you record in this set up Ronzoni? Because from my understanding, I think you have to have your Audio device in Maschine (DAW) selected as the MK3 if you want to record the effects of the 404 on a Maschine project?
Also have you done the Maschine to 404 setup using MIDI?
Thanks! Yeah I can record since the SP404 outs go back into the interface, and the Maschine records anything from the interface. It sounds like it might cause a feedback loop, but if you set the Maschine monitor to “off” it works. Your interface also needs direct monitoring.
It’s been awhile since I had this setup, so I hope that makes sense!
I haven’t done anything with MIDI and the SP404. I believe getting Maschine to send midi works, but it can be tricky and there are entire videos dedicated to that

Only to bad I can't get myself an SP404 MK2 Soon...maybe later when it has a price drop or something..:-) I had hopes, to get some money from my insurance of my 15 year old lost ring, I got from my mom while she was stil alive...but I was unlucky. Thanks for this tutorial, this is great! I think I missed something on the Maschine to SP (sample Maschine sounds into the SP) any thoughts? I do not have the FocusRite I have Komplete Audio 6 however the wiring is the same. Thanks in advance!
Uhoh, I don’t think Komplete works because they don’t have direct monitoring. I had a Komplete Audio 2, and could not get it to work. I was kinda furious about it haha 😂

I connected my Sp404 via the machine mk3 interface. I hear the music can use my effects. But when I record the beat with the effects, it's way too quiet. What am I doing wrong?
Hmm not sure. Your SP404 outs go to Maschine ins? If so it’s just the output level of the SP404 then. Mk3 interface never worked out for me, and I had to buy an external interface to get the setup I wanted, the setup I describe in the video
So when you record in the maschine the final beat comes out of the machine with the sp effects?

I was just wondering, if I could use the SP 404 MK2' s audio interface? People who use Maschine+ just hook up the SP 404 MK2 via usb Audio to the USB hub of Maschine plus and can directly sample between the two devices?
Oh that'd be interesting. I don't have a Maschine+ so I can't try that out. I sometimes hook up my SP404 MK2 to my laptop via usb audio interface but there is ground noise when it's also connected to my regular audio interface, so I usually only hook it up if I want to transfer samples with the SP404 app
I have a similar set up but am going to try with my mpc instead. For the cables you have the rca into single jack in the front and is it the same for the back? My focusrite (clarett 2pre) has 4 balanced outputs at the back so not sure if I should buy an rca to 2x jacks for left and right or what?

Yep, it’s RCA to a single jack for both the ins and outs of my SP404 and Focusrite. RCA outs of the SP, line jacks in to the Focusrite. Lmk if that help, glad you like the tut! 🙌

Dope. I've been looking into a performance set up. I have a maschine, sp404, and an iPad. We are equipment twins. Have you tried adding an iPad to this setup?
Hey equipment twin 👋 I use this exact setup with an iPad instead of a laptop nowadays since I’m mostly working on iOS instead of in Maschine. When I want to go back to my laptop and Maschine workflow I literally just plug my interface into my laptop instead of my iPad. I haven’t used both together really

I record using Maschine sampler, just like I would record a sample. The Maschine is receiving the audio from the interface outputs
Where do i plug in the monitors?
The speakers come out of the audio interface outputs 1 & 2, for headphones I plug them into the SP404SX. Does that help? (Sorry for the delay, I'm currently quarantining in my van 😬since my gf was exposed to covid)

Yes! I’m not using the Maschine MK3 interface at all here

@@CitySpring1 for the MKII you use two stereo quarter inch jacks cables. For the original, you’ll need jacks to RCA for the SP404. Lmk if that makes sense

Just set this up but its not fully working. When I set outputs to analogue 1 -2 in the scarlett software there's no output recognised from Maschine (focusrite recognises it on custom mix). The SP 404 is connected but not interacting as an effects box with Maschine. Any help welcomed.
Ok what is the maschine being used for if you have no audio going into the inputs or how are you gonna trigger sounds from the sp if they're not connected.🤔
The Maschine is connected to the laptop which is connected to the audio interface which is connected to the SP. Make sense?

@@jameshardy5578 Oh hmmm, I mean I made this video awhile ago, but I don't think I got into sequencing the 404 from Maschine. Basically, my songs were made in Maschine, and then I record my SP 404 FX as I play my Maschine projects
Now, I still have the same setup, except I'm using Ableton, and before that I used Koala on iOS with the same setup. The beauty is your SP 404 FX are always right there for you to use and record

@@jelanigordon5734 weird. Does your interface have direct monitoring? I had a Native Instruments interface, and I couldn’t get it to work, but it works with Focusrite
