  • In this video we look at 3 3D printers from 3 of the biggest manufacturers in the field, Creality, Elegoo, and Sovol. Two of the printers are Kilpper based, one is Marlin, all are very fast. All three of these printers are capable of printing at speeds in excess of 150mm/s.
The Ender 3 V3 SE is the lowest price at only $199.

My Anet A8 motherboard just failed for one of my stepper drivers a week ago and have no printer. I've upgraded it to AM8 and did a lot of print upgrades and maintenance over 5.5 years, and I think it's time I get a new one. But I can't seem to find what printer is best in this new age of 3d printing. I love tinkering with my anet a8 and having control of how it works (if the new printer "just works" then thats fine), but I want something that has a bigger print volume and is around 300-500 range. A huge leap from the Altair 8080 to the 5151. But in two years it will be a relic. And here's another comparison to mid 80's computers.... everybody is doing their own thing in a race to the bottom so nothing is standardized. I currently have 5 active printers going and need 4 different pieces of software to control them. When there is just 1....wow things will really open up.

They all auto level. But the Creality does auto Z offset, that's the selling point. The other printers have multiple steps the user must execute. The Creality has one menu item. You select it and go have a beer. When you return the machine is leveled, meshed, and offset. Bang. Done. Let's print. My first printer was an Anet A8 that took me 4 days just assemble. And it was never really reliable. The Creality and the Elegoo are reliable excepting any mechanical or component failure. The Sovol is a good printer, but was rushed to market to compete with the Elegoo (I think) and they cut corners. The printer crashing when i touched the cable on the screen is a huge red flag for me.

I bought the Neptune 4 Pro as my first printer because I stumbled across the actual information regarding Ender printers and the company that makes them. Pretty obvious that they're bottom of the barrel, hot garbage compared to the competition. Comparing the Ender line to printers either in their price bracket (the V3 really doesn't hold up to the competition JUST because of easy assembly and how fast you can go from box to print, thats a hilariously weak argument when recommending printers) they will look good because they can out perform the copy/paste Chinese garbage.
However, there are a few things people SHOULD know about the Neptune 4 and 4 Pro before buying them besides "they're fast". The bed leveling is really good as it has both manual and automatic leveling. The Pro has over 100 leveling spots while the 4 non pro has something like 36. Prints will end up worse on the 4 if you're doing something large and complex.
The 4 Pro also has a filament sensor, which works well. Haven't had any issues with it. The biggest issue I've had is the bed not being totally level. No matter how much level tweaking I did, it just couldn't get rid of the 2 huge lumps in the middle of my bed. I'm talking 0.06 high. The way I fixed it was by getting a glass bed and putting the PEI sheet on top of the glass bed. The 4 Pro has a magnetic sensor for leveling. So you can't use just glass beds unless you change the sensor out. Changing the sensor would likely include swapping out a majority of the components and making it look/work different. It doesn't bother me but I still count that as a negative.
Elegoo is using promotional material to point out that the 4 and 4 Pro can print higher temp filaments such as Nylon. Well, I decided to print some stuff with Nylon GF and it worked well! However, the nozzles they provided (they give you 3 of them, one in the printer and 2 in a bag) are made of brass. I've spoken to Elegoo directly about this and they pretty much avoided the question by saying it can print Nylon. The direct drive gears and the heat block ARE steel but the most important part, the nozzle, is not. My nozzle lasted probably 100g of filament before it was just torn up. So I ordered a new hardened steel nozzle that will be here in 2 weeks or so.
So while I think the Ender line is okay for someone who just wants to print hobby stuff, it's not okay for anything serious. The company is terrible and I would never recommend them. The Neptune 4 and 4 Pro are good but they're currently too new for me to be able to really recommend them to anyone since you'll find issues like I mentioned and have really stupid work arounds. If you're going to use stuff like PLA for professional printing, the 4 Pro is awesome for that.

What have you heard about the company? What information have you stumbled across?

I almost pulled the trigger on a Neptune 4 Pro as my first 3D printer, but stopped myself after seeing one too many videos saying that it has an alignment issue (not seen with the naked eye) that will cause problems with functional prints that require high accuracy. Especially if you're fitting a cylinder shape into another one (one video showed a cylinder print with different measurements along the cylinder). Have you found this to be the case with your Neptune 4 Pro? Or do you mostly print art pieces that don't require precision?

I bought my N4P for precise gun part manufacturing. I have seen plenty of people complain about various issues and give extremely complex fixes for those problems but I haven't had any issues that would indicate it has an issue. It works just fine for me and my use cases.
To be more specific, the parts I print are using Nylon GF30 within 0.01mm. Still haven't found a reason to believe the N4P has a problem. I believe those reviews either got a lemon, had no idea how to properly set it up or just print benchies all day looking for something to bitch about so they can tell people to spend more on a Creality instead.@@MozDivision

@@Gojira_Wins thanks for the feedback. It really is the best value on paper. And it looks nicer than the Sovol printers too. I might get it after all, but I'll wait to see if they have some deals for Black Friday

I can attest that I want to throw my first 3d printer out of the window on the 8th floor, own a tevoup hydra, whatever you do, never buy one. has made me completely lose the desire to use 3d printers!

I personally don't think that people who cannot figure out a z offset and tramming should be printing with hot plastic. These machines are not rocket science...they are more like sea monkey science, and they should be at the happy ground between helpful and figuring it out yourself through actual learning.

Elegoo has an update for the Neptune 4.
I am getting ready to flash my printer to the updated firmware and pendant screen update.
I had an issue with my Neptune 4 but Elegoo is coming through famously on customer support.
I am installing linear rails on all three axis so I will have a brute beyond the 4 Pro.
Contact Elegoo should you need the updated files.
      Cheers.@@NaqiRaza
