I watched a different video about the rear brakes and they never mentioned the 2 different length caliper bracket bolts. I figured this out the hard way. Doh! I should have watched this one instead. Great instruction.

Thank you for this video. I just completed this project on my wife’s 2011 Kia Soul. I used this video and everything worked out great!

C'est la meilleure vidéo que j'ai pu voir sur le remplacement des sabots du frein à main de la Kia Soul. Félicitations ! J'ai pu faire le travail moi-même sans trop de difficulté. Merci.

On those rotor hold screws: take a metal wire brush and repeatedly brush , from different directions, the screw heads. This way , any road grime/ surface rust is removed. THEN spray with penetration spray and let it soak in. Pound with rubber mallet. Spray again. Now your Phillips #3 screwdriver can sit deeper and " bite " better.
Some guys buy Japanese Vessel brand #3 screwdrivers that bite deeper into Phillips screws.
    My 2 cents...

When I was filming while my brother was working on the Kia Soul rear brakes, I did not notice that he installed the pad wear indicators on the trailing edge side. Later, I called him and told him to reinstall them with the wear indicators on the leading edge side. That way, the noise will be louder whenever they are rubbing the rotor.

Great video, I just took my parking break parts off and left them off. It's an automatic so it's not a problem.

No parking brake means problems next time you jack the front two tires in the air. . .

Many missing steps. No lactide on those caliper braker bolts. 50ft lb is wrong, must be 57-72.
-- caliper guide pins wrong way to grease again.
-- New shims with any grease down or bottom, no good.
-- Do not depress the brake pedal with the brake fluid reservoir open like he did, big mistake.

    • @mtlcarguy
      @mtlcarguy  หลายเดือนก่อน

You typed lactide instead of Loctite.
1: It is not required to apply Loctite on caliper bolts when the proper torque is applied.
2: 57.9 - 72.3 ft.-lbs are the tightening min. and max. torque limits for the FRONT calipers bolts and
47.0 - 54.3 ft.-lbs are the tightening min. and max. torque limits for the REAR calipers, so 50 ft.-lbs is a normal mid-range value.
3: Yes, the guide pins were not greased the standard way but the end result was the same.
4: Yes, he could have used silicone grease to slow down the rust process.
5: Yes, the reservoir was open to check and adjust the fluid, but, with ABS brake systems there no fluid shooting up from the fluid reservoir when the pedal is depressed.

@@mtlcarguy Loctide, lictide.lactide, wherever, blame google, blame me, you understood. For brake caliper holder or braker you better use it.
-- the tightening is right for rear, I said the front, so was my mistake.Mine is 2012 and I do all my maintenance. The dealer has never touched my car.
