I wish a medical doctor would make a TH-cam channel like this one and do this same video, but about medical appointments from their prospective. It's so good to see any type of doctor talking about this kind of stuff.
Please please please do one like "confessions of a therapist" or "what your therapist really thinks" - I follow this blog that does that and it's a really good insight
I was wondering , is it normal to feel like your wasting your therapists time and saying things that are irrelevant, despite reassurance from her that it’s not? I also feel like other people need her more than me and feel bad asking for another appointment, is it just me that feels like that? Xxx
I feel so guilty that there are suicidal people on the waitlist in my country and here I am occupying space with my stupid little problems (which are actually quite debilitating, but that's still what I usually say to myself).
I love your videos! It really helps demystify therapy and humanizes therapists. I'm currently in therapy and I'm very grateful for it. Initially, I was scared out of my wits about it, but when you collabed with Hannah Hart and Grace Helbig, I subscribed and watched all the videos related therapy/therapists to help ease me into my first session. Boy, did they help. Thank you, Kati Morton. Keep up this great work!
This is super interesting. I've always wanted to ask my therapists this but felt like it would break a boundary or tempt me to worry about them instead of focus on myself. Thanks!
I think it's okay to say something along the lines if "I hope this doesn't cross any boundaries, but I was wondering what you think about during therapy. What is it like from your side of the session?" Or something like that. I want to ask my therapist the same thing, actually. That way you acknowledge that boundaries are something you are concerned about crossing and then your therapist will let you know if it is or isn't. That's what I would expect, at least
Kati, apart from your channel there is literally nothing of this level from the therapist's perspective anywhere else on TH-cam! Thank you so much and please keep us posted!
+Kati Morton I'm currently studying psychology and therapeutic techniques, as a therapist yourself I'd like to ask you a question, how personal would you recommend getting with your clients? Like would you take your session to a coffee shop and have a conversation with them, perhaps to create a therapist to client bond built upon trust.
I'd love to see more videos like this. You're amazing, Kati! ☺️💖 Like, this is probably one of my favorite videos on your channel, because it gives a different insight in therapy and the way therapists work. Especially because of the points you mentioned, no one should be scared to see a therapist or psychiatrist, because they're only human too. Often, people forget about that unfortunately
I would love to see a video on "tips and tricks"/ ways to get someone who is shy about their problems to open up. Like a lot of people are shy and feel uncomfortable. How do you deal with that?if people don't answer your questions do you just move on and change the topic or try another "technique" to get it out of them? I just know that people can be stubborn because we feel awkward talking to someone, especially when they're new, and are worried about being judged. So I was wondering basically how you help a patient of yours to open up so you can help them with their problems.
Hey Chronically Cassidy- there are many techniques we can do- I try them all if I have to. Sometimes it's about asking more open ended questions, definitely asking them to clarify or explain, ask them to help me understand something, etc. If that doesn't work then I will be very honest with them about them taking the risk to open up more about what they want to to discuss... remind them of their goals for therapy, etc. I usually don't have an issue with this- I think it's a skill you learn through out your years as a therapist. :)
Can you do a video on how to cope and heal the scars left by narcissistic abuse? I was the child of a mother with NPD. There's a lot of us out there. I'd love to see a video on that. Thank you!
+IsThatEtchas Yes, this is definitely something that needs to be talked about more. I also have a mother with NPD and watching youtube videos actually helped me escape from her. The more awareness there is the more people can escape and heal.
I think this is such an important thing to talk about, because there are so many assumptions out there! And also just not enough knowledge. Even from another perspective: One of my best friends is studying to be a therapist in the future, and really she knows less about this field than I do, because I've been in therapy for quite a while. She has never seen what a session looks like. I know she'll be a great therapist, but she herself is very scared as she just doesn't know much about it. I love that you're making this videos to inform everyone Kati!! xx
I just started watching Kati (and of course subscribed!) but I love her! She's very real and honest and open. She says "shit" and just think that's awesome. She's real and I like that about her!! I don't like therapists who are all stuck up, behind their desk, watching the clock! Thanks Kati and I will for sure keep watching!! 😊
Kati, I don't know if you'll read this but I just wanted to say a massive thank you for your videos, I have had lots of experience with depression, self harm, anxiety and anorexia, and I currently now only rarely struggle with anxiety the rest is done! And honestly this might sound strange but your videos really played a part of my recovery as always answered lots of questions I was to scared to ask! I have recently recommended. You to the student I mentor through school and you really helped him as well X again thank you xx
I absolutely love you Kati! You are a true hero. You have helped me through so much in a few months. It seems that every time I start getting depressed you make a video, and I cheer up! Thank you kati!♥️
Great video! I often wonder what's going through my therapist's head, especially when there's a moment of silence between us, and I wonder about her notes too. But you are absolutely right about needing to "click". I went a year without therapy because I couldn't find anyone that I liked where I was living.
Do therapists get bored during a session? On my bad days I often answers "i don't know" on all questions and after the session I always feel so stupid and thinks that the therapist probably never want to see me again..
Carro501 damn! I feel the same way all the time. I refuse any eyes and physical contact with her so now she leaves my receipt on the table next to me for me to sign the paper and then without saying a thing I run through the door telling myself how much I hate myself. I wish I could be polite with her as I am with my others health professional that I see.
@@Asiangirlshot1 I think your therapist might be doing that trying to make you feel more comfortable. If you don't like physical contact, I think she's trying to minimize that. If that's something that bothers you-her leaving it on the table or you not liking physical contact or silence or whatever it is-let her know! What I do with my therapist is write what I'm thinking or feeling on my phone that I'm not comfortable saying and then we go from there. It makes it a lot easier to ease into the conversation. I know you commented this literally years ago, but I hope it helps and that things are getting better!
Can you do a video on hoardings? WHY do we hoard, what causes the need to hoard? How are some ways we can learn to let go and be healed from the feeling of needing to hold on to stuff?
Hey Kati! I'm a clinical psychology student and I really enjoy watching your videos. Could you make a video on what drove you to become a psychotherapist and what you love about your profession/what's more challenging. Thank you!
Karol I completely understand your concerns. Unfortunately, all therapists are not created equal. While there are some out there that you weren't satisfied with, I hope you keep looking for one because there are many many professional, well trained therapists out there.
If I am quiet or not really opening up my therapist will suggest we meditate. We usually do for about 15 minutes and it does help me open up. Though last time was hard because my anxiety got pretty severe towards the end of the meditation. My anxiety level has been up lately so I don't know if the quiet and trying to clear my mind just made it worse. Thank you for doing this video. I have always wondered what it was like from a therapists perspective.
"On Being a Therapist" By Kottler is amazing on this topic. It was challenging at points, from a client perspective (be warned), but I found it a very valuable source of perspective from someone with a lot of time in the field (the audio version is well narrated btw). I also found it did nothing but reinforce what a solid situation I've got. Thanks for another great bit of perspective in your video Kati, I just had to mention that book!
I love your videos Kati!! This was so good at helping relieve my anxiety about the topic. Like it's good to remember therapists are humans too lol. Also i'm so guilty of the door confessions oopss
Sooooooo interesting. More videos about this! I really want to know about how patients heal if they have like a lifetime of issues but couldn't afford therapy until they were older.
Ahhh glad I'm not the only one who does "door confessions"...I've gotten a lot better at speaking up about big things earlier in my sessions, though :) I try to bring up the important stuff first but sometimes I get nervous! I'm sure I'm not the only one here who does that! Xoxo
Thanks for everything you do, Kati! I have a question how do you deal, as a therapist, with emotional fatigue or therapist burn-out? I am working towards being a therapist, and I think it would be interesting to hear about that from a professional therapist.
I really like this video and would love to see another one like it--what kinds of things are you thinking about during session? Do you have any examples of times you have struggled in a session with your own emotions or reactions and how you worked through it? And a couple unrelated ED questions: 1. Do you ever comment if you notice a client has gained or lost weight? What do you think about this? 2. Can you do a video that explains the difference between AN B/P subtype and BN?
Thank you so much im still young but i want to be a therapist I've grown up wanting to help people idk what therapist i wanna be yet probably a physiatrist or something to that effect but I Was studying and writing in a journal that might help in the future thx this helped so much. Please keep making more videos and im subscribed now. Thxxx
Thank you Kati...I have recently found a wonderful shrink and he really is good to me but I’ve been through hell with previous shrinks and you nailed it...they couldn’t keep their shit outta the room! Well done sister 🇨🇦👍👍💛
Hello Kati I just have to say thank you for caring and doing such a good job in helping and giving good advice . You help me so much I feel so calm when I watch your videos wish I could see you in person :) by the way you look so nice with the straight hair look and I love the color again thank👍🏼for Kati😍
very informative and intresting coz I only know it from patient point of view it is interesting coz I wanna study phychology and wanna be a phychologist. you are awsome thanks for this vid .
I find it interesting that you call them clients and not patients. I just assumed I would be looked at as a patient if I went into therapy. Is this just a personal word choice, or is there meaning behind choosing one or the other? Really loving your videos. Just found them three days ago. I'm bingeing trying to pull all the info in as fast as I can because it's so interesting! Thank you for taking the time to share all of this with an audience. I'm sure it's hard work and certainly time consuming. I do love how succinct you are. Clearly, I'm not. I have a lot of trouble stating my feelings properly. Sometimes there's such a block between feelings and verbalizing that I literally am saying uuuummmmm, searching for the right words. Very frustrating.
Please can you do a video on athletes with eating disorders especially those that have to make a weight catogry or be a certain size. What can they do to manage eating disorders and still perform and compete. Thank you
Been watching for years and this is one of my favourite videos that you've made. EVER. I don't know, for some reason something about it really hit home, maybe because I have a lot of friends with mental health issues and we talk to each other about them and our experiences with therapy. I quit therapy recently because I felt like I didn't have the time for it in my life. I now realise that that was a mistake, but because I was doing ok at the time I for some reason was too stupid to have the foresight to know that I wouldn't do well without it. I'm now really struggling to reach out and go back into treatment because I know I'll probably self-sabotage and mess things up before I give it a chance to work but I think I have to now and I'm going to try and get hold of care coordinator's contact details to ask him to refer me back to the DBT centre.
I'm obsessed with Myers Briggs inventory. Could you do a video about personality types? Also, have you ever used internal family systems model for therapy? I've found it most helpful in my recovery journey. Thanks for making awesome videos! ❤️
I always sort of wonder what's going on in my counselors head when I'm talking to him or if we get stuck. Great video Kati, thank you for all that you do!!
so true about the drop something really important in the last ten minutes haha i used to do this as it would take me that long to feel brave enough or to have become undissociated and actually have it just pop in my head.. eirther way very awkward..
This was so interesting! It's also kind of not the greatest thing for someone in therapy to watch because then I focus even more on what the therapist is thinking and not be able to tell her stuff
Hi Kati, I've been struggling with anxiety, and the fear of choking on my food, for a few years. I have recently finished seeing my therapist because he presumed I was okay. However, although he helped me deal with my anxiety, he didn't help me overcome this phobia, which is taking over my life. I realise that this fear has gradually gotten worse over the years, but I don't know exactly why it started, and fear that I will soon be deemed underweight and unhealthy. Have you ever helped a client deal with this phobia? How did you help them overcome it? Thank you for creating such helpful videos! Xx
I'm currently seeing a psychotherapist in the UK so it may be slightly different here but I don't know... I am so confused rn because near the end of the session I asked if she was going to discharge me because of the way that she had been talking near the end and she said it was something for us both to think about and bring up in our next session. I really don't want to finish seeing her but I'm worried that I'm being too difficult or that she feels like she can't work with me because I really like her and I actually look forward to our sessions every week and now i'm bricking it
Therapists are like human librarians. They get to keep all these memories and life stories in their mind. They see the deepest pain and experience of society. And with each case, their practice gets stronger.
+Kati Morton (Mental Health Vlogger) I'm a licensed psychotherapist from Portugal and I can confirm everything you said :) Going to therapy for the first time does not have to be scary! WE'RE HERE TO HELP! :) ask for help! Everyone deserves it! We do not have to go through difficult times alone! :) x
I think the term you were looking for is door knob therapy; yes I do get them a lot. What I do is talk about it at the next session. Question, should I send a quick email about that between sessions?
Hey Katie I love your channel. I’m curious what your journey is. What was your journey to being a therapist? What inspired you to make a TH-cam channel?
Hi Kati I love how real and down to earth you are. I am currently studying Psychotherapy and nearly at a point of marketing myself and getting to that first session. Any advise you might have ?
Could you do a video on constantly feeling bad for everything, always apologizing, ie your a minute late so you feel super bad and constantly apologize. i do this a lot and my boyfriend gets mad at me, i cant help it i just feel so terrible for messing up.
I am just like you.. I think it is a constant fear of failure and very strong personal judgement. I used to date someone who I ll kill myself if I ever feel I wronged or did something I couldn't forgive myself for and she said the same thing.
Therapist: “Okay so this is the end of your session. Did you-“
Me: “oh by the way I hate my self. Bye!”
*therapist just sits there staring at me*
"Yeah, uh... just one more thing, I tried to kill myself twice. So, see you next week?"
@@firewolf1024 my therapist normally asks if I have still something to say (at the end of the session)...well... that doesn't happen anymore
So many people look at therapy as a cure but it only works if we use the tools that a therapist gives us👍
I wish a medical doctor would make a TH-cam channel like this one and do this same video, but about medical appointments from their prospective. It's so good to see any type of doctor talking about this kind of stuff.

Very interesting to see it from your perspective!! Also I like your new haircut! :-)
really enjoyed this topic
I told my therapist today at the end of session I was like oh yeah I self harm bye!
If you don't mind my asking, how are you now? You ok? :)
not really tbh, I'm not in therapy and I'm kinda back sliding at the moment :(
I'm sorry to hear that :(
it's okay :/
keep going to therapy, what did you stop it for?
I'm obsessed with Myers Briggs inventory. Could you do a video about personality types?
Also, have you ever used internal family systems model for therapy? I've found it most helpful in my recovery journey.
Thanks for making awesome videos! ❤️
wow , Im so glad I found you when I did .. I appreciate your hard work /videos ! Please keep it up ..it really helps a lot ...
Love your this hairstyle on you Kati. Thanks for making videos

I was really wondering about this! thank you for your honesty & great video!! (:
great job Kati
I always sort of wonder what's going on in my counselors head when I'm talking to him or if we get stuck. Great video Kati, thank you for all that you do!!
love your new hair
so true about the drop something really important in the last ten minutes haha i used to do this as it would take me that long to feel brave enough or to have become undissociated and actually have it just pop in my head.. eirther way very awkward..
This was so interesting! It's also kind of not the greatest thing for someone in therapy to watch because then I focus even more on what the therapist is thinking and not be able to tell her stuff
Hi Kati,
I've been struggling with anxiety, and the fear of choking on my food, for a few years.
I really don't want to finish seeing her but I'm worried that I'm being too difficult or that she feels like she can't work with me because I really like her and I actually look forward to our sessions every week and now i'm bricking it
I love your hair Kati.
I'm seeing my first therapist/CBT this Wednesday and I'm anxious. Hopefully, she can help me when I'm over there.
Great job Kati!
Therapists are like human librarians. They get to keep all these memories and life stories in their mind. They see the deepest pain and experience of society. And with each case, their practice gets stronger.
Thank you for sharing. I found this really interesting
I love this video! Thank you so much for sharing. Also loving your hair. 😉
Great video!
Hi Kati
I love how real and down to earth you are.
Would you tell them why you had to refer them out? In your Counter transference alcoholic example
okay your hair
Oooh can you do a video on how to find a good therapist. I have no idea.
Love this! And love your hair :)
Thanks a lot! This video was really interesting! 😊❤
Very good...
Thank you for uploading this video... :) It was really interesting!

Cool thanks for sharing this is what I'm looking for :)
