This is not fixing a structural crack - Its a temporary fix albeit with a good finish. This is cosmetic only and not a fix - waste of time for a crack that size.
Your right John, perhaps they should have torn all the walls off and rebuilt the structure, and re-stucco the entire wall? Not. Here's a tip my friend, if it's your house if you can afford it do it your way, don't speak for others who may not be able to afford proper fixing, but instead wish to contain the problem so it doesn't get worse.💩

Hi Alex Schack, excellent question, by the way I missed your comment until now, I am now responding to another. If the paper is broken I tell folks you have a choice apply the sika flex caulking or tear off all the stucco and re-lath and plaster. ( 9 out of 10 say caulk the crack.) Howdy OverYounder, there are at least 100 different reasons why stucco cracks. However a crack does not mean a leak. It's typical and normal for two coat stucco systems to crack even if a fella does the third coat, hydrates the best as possible far and beyond codes homes can still hairline due to movement. We just had some wood exterior on our stucco house removed and replaced with new stucco. The upstairs looks great, but the two downstairs patches have lots of small cracks. I can see no such cracks on the original (1982) stucco work, and the upstairs new stucco doesn't show the same cracks. Is this normal? Will the downstairs stucco need to be replaced? I live in Solano County, CA.

Why the heck are there absolutely no cracks (hairline or otherwise) in the original stucco from 1982? What is the standard procedure for the cracks in brand new stucco--will they replace it all, add a new layer, or fill the cracks? Thanks for any info you can provide. Hello! Not sure if you check threads from this far back but I just had some brick replaced on my stucco home, which left a half inch gap between brick and stucco. The area is about 10 feet long was wondering what your suggestion for filling would be. I was thinking quick Crete and then pre-mix stucco over it. Any suggestions appreciated!
Yes thats exactly what i just did om recent patch it was a large crack towards the bottin.kf a.block.home so i cleaned out crack added bonder and procecded.to.brown blend with green float then texture over. Customer was happy thank again for.ur videos i love my job

Hi Kirk, Need some help. I have several hairline cracks and a few larger cracks in my stucco. I have used poly, acrylic and flex morr and with the expansion and contraction, (Arizona) it continually forces the caulk out of the crack. Obviously it then "bubbles up" the finish I put on looking like $*@%! After watching many of your videos, I've seen you do not recommend using mesh tape over the color coat.....so I am looking for suggestions. Really appreciate your videos, thanks and please keep em coming. Thanks!
Howdy Morris, sound like you have a home that does indeed lift a lot, some homes where I live have streams under them thus they do lift more than others. I would have recommended you caulk early in the morning with more Flex. You may have a maintenance issue that needs doing year after year depending on many things. Peace, love, and happiness to all. You do beautiful work! It seems like you use a lot of Sikaflex 1a polyurethane caulking for the bigger cracks. Here in Portland, OR, the two stucco contractors I spoke with, both use Sonolastic 150 since it's low modulous and the silyl terminate polyether sealants supposedly outlast polyurethanes. Plus, it's paintable if that's needed. What are your thoughts on this?
Howdy Jason, I use sikaflex a lot for lathing as it's a sealant also. For cracks I rarely use this brand unless the cracks are huge and a primer and or acrylic will be used to go over, for crack repairs this product drags plus does not have the sand to match the majority of finishes. ive got a bag of quickcrete base coat stucco. and many large structural cracks. can i do the prep, fill with polyurathane, weld-crete, then use the stucco instead of the rapid set. Thanks for the videos.

Kirk, using that Rapid Set the way you do - doesn't that leave an unsightly buldge in that area. I ask that because if you have the sun setting perpendicular to that wall casting light across it - I assume that buldge will be very unsightly (as it was on my recent repair that did that way). Any thoughts - of course you could put another layer of color coat and try to blend it - but seems you would have a big job to float a finish that looked right for that area. Any comments are welcome!

Okay, I'm going to go out and sell mine now based on your suggestion of the Big Bad Wolf...LOL On a serious note, last year I had to do a lot of Tuck-pointing on my Brick house due to shifting throughout the decades. A handful of bricks had to be replaced too. Good thing the previous owner/s left some in the back shed. It's not about the big bad wolf, I GUARANTEE you no wolf is going to blow down your house. It's all about movement and shifting throughout time. Many people with brick houses go through the SAME maintenance on Brick walls throughout time. You do know that, right Cinderella?

I'd recommend Mor-Flexx caulking, it no doubt will shirk, if so simply caluk it again with the same stuff as it matches grout and stucco.👨🏻🔬
