Other apps worth mentioning:
Simplifi - $47.88/year (currently offering a deal at $24/year)
App designed by Quicken, but meant as a personal finance app. Like it's name it is simple to use. It lets you track your money, link your accounts, manage your budget, investments, and bills. It does not let you pay bills or track your net worth and credit score.
Monarch Money - $99/year
More complex financial view. Links to your accounts, lets you budget, rolls over your budget, create custom transaction rules. You can collaborate with others in your house at no extra cost - everyone you invite gets there own login, but will have full access to your account.
CountAbount - $9.99/year or 39.99/year
This is great for importing transactions from mint.

what about nerd wallet
Setting up Empower with the link you shared below. Thanks for your videos!
Sure thing. I hope you like it!
Thanks for the info.
I hope it's helpful!
Thank you. I miss Mint :( Credit Karma feels like I'm carrying a dinosaur from the old times.
Haha. Yes - good analogy. Good luck with a new app!
This is stressing me out 🥺🥺🥺
What happened with mint ?
@BelleKindaReads they shut down. They recommended people move to credit karma (which they also own), but I don’t care for credit karma…so there are some alternatives.
I agree!
thanks for the great video!! I'm still a bit unsure which of these is the most comparable to mint in terms of adding and seeing different categories
I believe Quicken Simplifi or Monarch Money are the most comparable to Mint. Here's a video comparing the two: th-cam.com/video/IdLsMvAsKn4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nmUBPUezTeyrDdX8
BudgetForLife is an awesome option as well! Tries to get the best of both worlds between a budget app and a diy budget spreadsheet
Thanks for sharing. I'm not familiar with it - I'll have to look into it.
I've had YNAB for a couple years and the bugs in the system have only gotten worse over time... found this video while looking for alternatives. Thanks for all the info!
Thanks for sharing!
Another one not mentioned here is monarch money- it is kind of a mix between mint and YNAB. They’ve made lots of updates the past few months. I’m texting it out right now.
Just thought I’d throw it out there. Good luck!
what do you think of moneymonarch now? I am new to this, i was about to download "Rocketmoney" but everywhere I check no one lists it as a good option so I was worried@@BrittanyFlammer
Is there any way to add property value as part of net worth to Empower? I'm looking for a smartphone app that I can check bank and portfolio transactions, and net worth that includes property, all on one page. I don't want a budget, saving goals, spending alerts, categories, credit score or any other 'helpful' tools thank you. Mint was perfect for this. Any ideas for a low cost alternative?
Yes- you can do this with Empower - just add an account (like you would for an investment), but there is an option to add your home value. It will automatically update with Zillow's estimate.
great info
I’m so glad!!
curious how you manage expenses and credit card related to travel/work?
Sure. For work, I keep everything completely separate. Separate bank accounts and separate cards. I personally use a spreadsheet to track all of my income/expenses and figure out what my 'take home pay' is from my work. Most of these budgeting apps only allow you to create 1 budget intended for personal use. If you wanted a separate budget for your business you'd have to 'buy' another membership. Tiller is the exception - it lets you create 5 budgets.
For travel -we have a sinking fund for our travel. We set money aside each month, then when we go on a trip we use the money out of that sinking fund. We did try out a travel credit card this past year. It has been a positive experience because we got a huge bonus. But, we probably won't continue to use the card next year (the fee isn't worth it to us).
I hope that helps.
Can Empower auto update Excel workbook on my Onedrive? If it can I will be able to manipulate to my own Budget workbook.
I don't believe it can. If you're wanting to use your excel workbook, Tiller has an add-on you can use. Here's a link to their help page for that if you're interested: help.tillerhq.com/en/articles/2283741-using-the-tiller-money-feeds-add-in-for-microsoft-excel
Everydollar fan here
I’m so glad it’s working for you. Thanks for sharing!
I just came across this video which I'm going to have more time later to watch.. btw, can i take care of your plant behind you❤❤
Haha!!! This is the 2nd plant I’ve killed…I’m in the basement and it gets too cold for the plants. If I can’t revive this one I’m going to have to do something else!
@@BrittanyFlammer it's not that bad yet
What kind of plant is that
Hey Brittany, just wanted to let you know I checked out your website to see your coaching prices, getting an error when trying to click any links from your homepage.
Thanks so much for letting me know. It looks like one of the links was broken and I'm fixing it now.
To answer your question...
I do free group coaching once a month: calendly.com/brittanyflammer/group-coaching
I do hourly coaching sessions currently charging $100 here: calendly.com/brittanyflammer/monthly-coaching-session-60-minutes-clone
Some people just want one session to answer a lot of questions. Others getting started with budgeting usually like 2-3 sessions and then they're good to go on their own.
which ones works for Canadians and does it work with CIBC bank? I tried Monarch which was great, except CIBC bank connectivity didn't work
Give Neontra a try. Canadian company and I've read posts from people who have had success with CIBC connections.
Both I've heard good things about Neontra. After a quick search, I found a Reddit article saying Pocketguard also worked with CIBC. With Monarch Money you could try sinking with MX instead of plaid. When you add an account, plaid is the default, but MX is another option. If might work.
@@BrittanyFlammerI called CIBC tech manager who told me they are working to make sure no third party apps can get access. I think it’s pointless to try, they will block it eventually if they haven’t yet.
Thanks for letting me know. That's annoying for you, but I understand the safety concerns. Thanks for sharing!@@jenniferdoyle8548
Hi Brittany, share a link for empower please.
Here it is: empowerreferral.link/b13185
@@BrittanyFlammer thank you
None of these are available in Europe. Could you do international apps? Thank you! ♥️
I wish I knew more about European apps. I don't have much experience with that - but have heard good things about Emma.
Is there a budgeting app that has settings to ping your phone when a transaction hits whichever account was used, asking you to confirm the budget category it should go in?
depends what you mean by ping, but YNAB will prompt you to categorize every transaction that and approve every transaction as they come in
Simplifi has lots of notification options you can turn on for email/text. They also let you choose categories to set as a watch list.
Monarch lets you set it so you can choose what transactions you need to review to categorize. Or you can let them automatically categorize.
EveryDollar forces you to review every single one
Are they all compatible with banks/cards/currency from other countries?
Most of them aren't. Where do you live?
Everydollar - US and Canada
Quicken - US and Canada
Tiller - meant for US and Canada but will work for some other international banks. You can see the list here: www.tillerhq.com/what-banks-and-financial-sources-work-with-tiller/
Empower - only US based institutions
YNAB - does work in some other countries. It's fairly recent. You can get more info here: support.ynab.com/en_us/direct-import-in-the-uk-and-eu-an-overview-Syae1z_A9#:~:text=Yes!,can%20enable%20that%20for%20you.
It's a good video
Thanks. I hope it was helpful!
Can I have a referral link for Empower?
Here it is: empowerreferral.link/b13185
Hello Brittany, Do you provide budget and planning and setup coaching as a service?
Yes! I do 1-on1 coaching. It looks different for everyone. Some people just want some generic advice, but some people want help getting started from scratch.
I charge a standard coaching fee. It covers one hour of coaching and follow up emails. For those people who want help getting started, usually 2 or 3 coaching sessions is good. Feel free to look at my website here: brittanyflammer.com
Link for empower please! 🙏🏻
HEre's the link: empowerreferral.link/b13185
In order to get the $20 bonus, you have to open a new account and add a qualifying investment account with a balance of $1k. The bonus will be emailed to you afterwards (it's currently an Amazon gift card).
Every dollar isn’t available outside the US , I live in Canada and tried to download it , it wouldn’t
In Canada, you should be able to use the free version on your computer (or on your phone if you use the web rather than the app). I'm in the US, so i haven't actually tested it, but that's what I read on their website.
The Dave Ramsay 60 day trial for Mint users only work for US customers. You should include that in your video!
Good point! It is my understanding that only the free version of everydollar works outside the US, so I didn't even think about mentioning it. Can you use the premium version where you live?
Anything for Canadian's, Hard to find. Not a huge fan of YNAB I don't think.
That's so frustrating. YNAB works, but if you're not a fan that won't help you.
You can use the free version of EveryDollar on their website.
Monarch money should work - I'm currently testing them out and they've made lots of adjustments to their app that are good.
Your personal bank should offer an app to help with tracking expenses.
Let me know if you end up finding something you like!
Due to empowers lack of budgeting categories… is it safe to say there are no other free options that have the same functionality as mint?
Pretty much. A lot of individual banks offer budgeting apps and are free. I haven't tested all of those out. SoFi's bank has a pretty good one called SoFi relay....definitely not as many features as mint, but you can see a snapshot of it in this video here at the 9:54 mark th-cam.com/video/CuU4lLesNPs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3934ChfqhtvKVpB1
@@BrittanyFlammer What about Empower?
It’s free, great for tracking wealth and transactions, but not meant for traditional budgeting.
So which one are you personally using?
That's a good question. The answer - I don't use any of them personally. I use a spreadsheet and manually enter the transactions in. That being said, I have clients that use all of these and I test them out so I can answer questions about them.
how could they replace it with credit karma, that’s not even a budgeting app
I know. 😢
Any of these apps has Receipt Scanner?
No- none of them have a scanner.
Empower says $8.00 per month?
You are probably looking at empower:cash advance. It's a peach app with black arrow icon. This is an app that lets you do cash advances.
The empower (by personal capital) app I'm talking about looks like what is shown in the video. The app is dark blue with red waves. It's completely free.
Is there a reason you don't have a YNAB tutorial?
I’ve tested YNAB out a couple of times to get a feel for it, but I don’t personally use it and none of my clients do, so I don’t have a tutorial.
Any particular reason? Do you not like it?@@BrittanyFlammer
It’s a good app…although I think I like monarch money better now that they’ve made some updates recently.
YNAB is just has a bigger learning curve and there are a lot of videos on it already.
Thanks!@@BrittanyFlammer
i found ynab UI look like the 90s
:D
Would like to try Empower! Can you share the referral link? :)
Here you go: empowerreferral.link/b13185
Why didn't Mint just start charging?
I don't know. A lot of people wish they would have done that.
Let's be friends lol
Let’s! Here’s the empower link if you are interested: empowerreferral.link/b13185
Empower SUCKS! Does not update transactions real-time.
Hmm. Empower syncs your accounts every night. They will also syncs when you login. It doesn't take a day or two for the transactions to import - but that's what I've found with all budgeting apps. I haven't noticed Empower taking longer than other apps...but I haven't been looking for that. I mostly use it to track net worth.
@BrittanyFlammer Before I gave up and deleted the app. It went several days without updating my main card that I use, so that was a deal breaker for me. I use budgeting apps to track my spending to identify where my money is going, so I need it to update at least once a day. Really sucks because I like the features and UI.
@roywhitt3011 yeah- that would definitely be frustrating. Did you end up going with something else?
@BrittanyFlammer Yes, I'm currently trying out Simplifi and Monarch. I like Simplifi the best. However, Monarch is compatible with all my accounts. I like that Monarch has several options to link your accounts as opposed to Simplifi. Simplifi seems to only have one way. Which budgeting app is your favorite?
@BrittanyFlammer I'm currently using Simplifi and Monarch. I like Simplifi the best. However, Monarch is compatible with all my accounts. I like how they have more ways to link your accounts. Simplifi seems to only have one way. It appears that there is no perfect budgeting app out there. I hope Simplifi adds more ways to link your accounts like Monarch soon. Which budgeting app do you prefer?
I’m curious wtf is up with this Mint bullshit? What were they thinking ffs
They weren’t making any money. It’s a major bummer!
