    I was a years long mint user and switched to YNAB last month. I like to think the difference is like the difference between calorie counting (mint) and meal planning (YNAB)
    Budgeting and tracking my recurring monthly expenses was helpful, but planning with YNAB is giving me a whole new feeling

    Loved Mint, got crushed by the announcement. Found YNAB, felt as if my use of mint was not enough for true budgeting - zero based budgeting really changed my outlook on money. I’m halfway through the trial and immediately saw the value. Will be subscribing for the year!

      Funny enough, YNAB came up at work (they’re a customer of my company) and that’s how I came across it. Perfect timing.

    Ben, I'm a long time user of YNAB and know these 4 rules like the back of my hand, but I love the way you succinctly described and illustrated these. Great reminder on how it all works. Many thanks!

      Same!! I've been using YNAB for years, but I still enjoy watching these videos covering YNAB basics. It's quality content 💙

    I chuckle because I switched from Mint to YNAB in 2022...and never looked back. Thank you YNAB!

    I have been budgeting with Mint for over a year. I liked it despite some of it’s drawbacks. Switched to YNAB this week.

    I went with YNAB over Mint when I was looking for a budget helper several years ago, so I've never used Mint. But I can say that I've loved using YNAB over the years.

    So I cant seem to import all my transaction histrory into YNAB without it seriosuly breaking the budgeting. I used the mint upload tool and it didnt display any of my past transactiosns... just created a budget for me which frankly i want to tweak and adjust myself anyway. When i manually try and import every transaction is either counted towards an inflow our outflow.
    Whats the point of offering an a MINT specifc import tool that doesnt display your mint transaction history... Or am i missing something?

    Ynab is great! I would like YNAB to have more advance reporting feature. It is really weak right now.

    I'm still confused about showing income vs expenses in categories. I get the last one which is be 30 days ahead which would make this app a lot easier to use.

    Hi Ben! I'm from the Philippines. I love YNAB but I wish we can link our accounts too. My husband and I are manually inputting everything and the time and effort spent on this workaround adds up. Is there any chance of this happening?

      It's not in the works right now, but file-based import might be another good option for you!

    Question? I created a 'Christmas Spending' category for December 2023. However, in January I do not need that category anymore. When I go into the January budget to delete it, it also deletes the one in December. Is there a way to prevent that from happening.

    • @nathalieisneon
      @nathalieisneon 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you can hide it.... OR even better. set a goal on that category for xmas 2024 and you can fill the category throughout the year so at the end of the year you have all the expenses for christmas stress free (kinda the goal for YNAB) but you can technically hide and and unhide it.

      I created a category at the very bottom of the budget called "Done" that I move all of those things to, then hide the entire category at once. That way when I unhide, they're not spread all over the place in different areas of my budget.

    • @YNABofficial
      @YNABofficial  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Generally, for something like Christmas, most people use the same category to start saving for the following year. You can rename the category to Christmas 2024 if you like. Otherwise, hiding or deleting it is your next best option. More info on that here:

    Moving from Mint. My transactions (8 years) is not being accepted by YNAB and naturally, mint will no longer allow me in to re-do. Also, my banks and most credit cards are not allowing YNAB to link. now what? My Mint was transferred as CSV to my laptop.

    How does the "average user save $600 over 2 months." Can you use this program without actually linking a live financial account to it, just manually using it to manage your money in different folders?

    • @sakeena9364
      @sakeena9364 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You save way more if you plan correctly. Planning in YNAB helps you not overspend. You don't have to link accounts. If you use cash you can select cash or add an unlinked bank account and add everything yourself.

    • @YNABofficial
      @YNABofficial  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can absolutely use YNAB without linking any of your banks or financial institutions! You can easily enter transactions and keep accounts updated yourself, or even by using file-based import. Lots of users find they save big time because of the increased awareness of where their money is going! When you build and follow a spending plan, you can make sure you're putting your money where you WANT it to go, not where you don't. YNAB also makes it incredibly easy to catch those "behind the scenes" subscriptions and charges you didn't realize you were being charged.

    LOVE my YNAB BUT BUT BUT **** I HATE*** That I do not have a way to see my "total needed" to assign per category per month. AKA, I wish that I could see the total money I need to fill my "bills" or "wants, needs" etc... I know the goal is not to do this but sometimes i like to play around with my numbers and move and see what makes more sense for our family.... but i have created budgets on ynab where i created spending lines that went WAY over my monthly income..... and I had no idea because YNAB doesnt give me a total. it is my one frustration. my husband wants to keep using our spreadsheet because he cant trust our YNAB due to this one huge lack of visibility.

    • @YNABofficial
      @YNABofficial  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Check the Underfunded amount in Auto-Assign. That will tell you the total needed for all selected categories.

      go to the next month to check, just select all money assigned
