      I just checked and it looks like the link is working on my end. The Monarch Money link had expired, but I've updated it now. Here they are:
      Try Quicken: bit.ly/48zTHdE
      Try Monarch Money: bit.ly/48nhg8L
      Quicken doesn't offer a free trial - just a 30 day money back guarantee. If you want to try it, I suggest setting a reminder in your calendar for 28 days to cancel if you decide you don't want it.

      @@laurenottinot877 Sorry - I just saw this. I don't always see comments if they are in reply to another comment. I just checked and it looks like the link is working. Simplifi doesn't have a free trial, but they will give you your money back if you request it within 30 days. I tried this out and they responded very quickly to me and refunded me my money without asking any questions.

      I know...the best way is to test it out. You could try Monarch's free trail to get a feel for it. quicken doesn't offer the free trial, but will give you a refund during the first 30 days if you request it.

    The deal breaker for me was quicken didn't offer rollover budgets. How do you budget without rolling over especially with variable categories?

    • @BrittanyFlammer

      Apparently quicken Classic does do rollovers, but not Simplifi.
      I’d you search their help section, they recommend doing a custom income, but it sounds way too complicated.
      Another option is to use sinking funds and transfer the money over to another account.

      Thank you for letting us know? Rollover feature is very important to me too. I haven't trialed Simplifi, but I noticed Monarch appears to let you setup different budget amounts for different months, which is a huge plus for me where I don't always pay for some things every month (e.g., tax prep). I think this will help users like me manage cash flow better.

    • @BrittanyFlammer

      Both good options. Just depends on what you want. Quicken has less features, but does all the basic stuff. Monarch has a little bit better customization.

  • @danielcleary1072

    How is Quicken with rolling over income to the next month? I get two pay checks right at the end of the month. Most of those go towards expenses in the next month.

    • @BrittanyFlammer

      You can rollover money to the next month. You can change the dates of your income so it would count for the next month.

    Does Monarch have a watchlist equivalent?

    • @BrittanyFlammer

      Not really, but you can reorganize your dashboard so you see the budget first thing. Inside the budget you can easily see how much you’ve spent and how much is left in each category.

    • @anniemilakovic7683

      I still don’t understand when you might want a watchlist item- what’s your use case?

    • @BrittanyFlammer

      @@anniemilakovic7683 It just makes it easier to keep an eye on a 'problem' category. You could view it by opening up and looking at your budget, this just keeps it front and center.

  • @WoutervanTiel

    Simplifi is way too weird on how they present their spending plan, firstly just call it a budget and don't split it out in three very illogical sections. just one section with income and one with expenses that you can categorize at will, then you can see everything clearly. Right now it is one muddy mess. Monarch simply charges too much. Who is going to pay $100 EVERY year for the rest of your life to manage your finances? I bought quicken back in 1983 for $29 as a one time fee. I should have kept my 1983 PC to keep running it. It worked very well.

    • @BrittanyFlammer

      I HATE the subscription plans. I miss the days of paying for something once up front. I agree - quicken isn't intuitive for me, although I know some people like it more. I do love a lot of the features of monarch, but agree $100 is a lot. Unfortunately, that seems to be the going rate for lots of the budgeting apps. I can't bring myself to pay, which is why I keep going back to my spreadsheet because it's free. :D

    The 30day monarch trial link doesn't work.. is that for US only?

    • @BrittanyFlammer

      Monarch works with banks in the US and Canada. It might be able to link to bank accounts outside the US, but it will all be in $. The extended trial isn't specified to the US that I know of. However, they have changed my link a few times. Here it is to try again: bit.ly/48nhg8L. I just tested it out and it's valid. So, if you're outside the US and it's not working let me know.
