The funny thing about Yakuza being compared to GTA is that the original was marketed as Japanese GTA overseas and the series didn't really start to take off here until 4 (and even then it was a pretty cult following till 0 came along) That being said, we got a yakuza game where Mark Hamill plays Majima out of it and that's pretty cool.
the problem with starting with Zero is, it's the best one and has a bunch of quality of life improvements that didn't come til later. even though all the games are good to great it is all still technically downhill from here

Yup, I was like "wait, he mentions Majima's legend style but not Kiryu's?" but then he says he didn't bother completing Kiryu's real estate thing and I was like "ah, well that explains it."
I was the exact opposite...I loved the property tycoon business game over the carpet club one...I'm just not a fan of sitting there the whole time while managing stats like that especially when I already got invested into the property one before the carpet was introduced to me. By the time I got the carpet club available to me, I was already used to the property tycoon one, running around doing side quests while waiting for the money to be collected.
Both locations are based off of real-life locations. Kamurocho is based off of Kabukicho and Sotonbori is based off of Dotonbori. They are incredbily well detailed, featuring many real-life locations, and you can pretty much find your way around the places if you've gamed the Yakuza games.
Even tho the ost of Yakuza 0 is one of the best in the franchise, but I love how Nishiki’s theme in 0 and Kiwami 1 are reminiscent of each other but the tone is completely different bcuz of the events of the story Also the song that played during the final battle of Kiwami 2 is my all time fav in the series hands down

TBH- All joking aside, maybe it's because the cabaret was maybe too intimidating for me, but the fact I can start a collection and do other shit while I wait, I found more compelling than the cabaret. You do you, but I will always avoid the cabaret club stuff in any yakuza game and do something else.

Yes majima has the spotlight in this game, HOWEVER to shoot down kiryu the way he does. this is why I tell people not to play Yakuza 0 first it makes it hard for you to connect to anything that you hwar and do in all the other games cuz you're all going to be like oh I'm still waiting on majima.
0 is my first into the series, just finished kiwami 1 last night. Loved 0 more than 1, definitely manjima's minigame part of it. The games have made me realize that I'm pretty fucked up for how much I love this brutal attacks. Except the pliers and box of nails, that hurts too much to see.
Unpopular opinion: but kiwami 2 and Y7 engine(the dragon engine) is my least favorite of them all... Its so much more comedic, while the other games have that crunchy gameplay which are *MWAH* EXCEPTIONAL.

You should check out Judgement: Judge Eyes, it’s made by the same team who made the Yakuza series and it’s absolutely amazing And the ost is even better in this game too It’s pretty much the closest thing to Yakuza 0 in terms of story and quality if that’s what you’re looking for
I was the exact opposite with the mini games while I enjoyed playing the cabret mini game grinding girls to a decent lvl felt boring while kiryus felt exciting for me since I knew how easy it was (except for disco king cause I sucked at the disco Minigame)
Love yakuza 0 but man i wished that for Kiryu's real estate business, they highlighted the buisiness you could buy.I had to pull up a guide everytime i wanted to see where the business were and running around slamming into buildings until you finally got the "look" button was so annoying
The only I way I'll probably ever play Yakuza 0 (or any Yakuza game for that matter) is if it gets ported to the Switch. I'll gladly take lower quality graphics in exchange for experiencing this absolute unit of a series.

As a man in his 30's I never thought I'd enjoy giving women makeovers and dressing them up. Always aggravated me that you could only ever maximize 3 of the 4 stats based on appearance.

Huh, normally people say they hate the club management (like I did), and liked the property game. (like I did) However I do feel the need to tell you that you can transfer money between the two. (also there is a lot more Club management in the others games ):)
The three Lieutenants of Dojima are all played by actors well known for starring in Yakuza films (especially true with Kuze and Awano)

Kiwami 1 has my favorite combat system though. It went from good to great once you unlock the full dragon style combat, you just become a powerhouse

That's true. I finished playing the series a couple of months ago and up until 3 and maybe 4 i was constantly like "Where's Majima?"
For me, it was the opposite. Sure Majima was interesting and all, but I felt more attached to Kiryu when I played 0.

Chronological as the remakes of 1 and 2 are made with 0 in mind.
