This might sound like an incredibly unpopular opinion.... But I liked this game. Crafting new stuff as it's being discovered was fun. Progressing in the "tech tree" from dirty water to filters, herb farms, animal farms etc.... was fun. Looking for world bosses and taking them down was fun. Trying different strats to clear survival dig maps was fun. Hell, my kleptomaniac self considered constant loot pickups fun, and I enjoyed the melee system when the Fighter subtree was maxed out. The problem was that it's meant to be treated like that. It's a one-time sandbox where you come in, clear the story, stick around for a bit to advance tech or screw around with friends and then leave it behind. It's not immortal, and it's not meant to beat other MG games. It's a horrid MG game, but an okay 4/10 non-MG game
I'm with you. It's a horrible Metal Gear game, but at its cheap release price? Yeah, it reaches the 'dizzying heights of occasionally not boring', to paraphrase Zero Punctuation. Quite bland and repetitive, but actually a reasonable time sink. The game's bad reputation just comes from the fact that this was following MGS5, and it was after Kojima's departure from Konami after they went all Pachinko.
the fact that this game was actually somehow good (until the story just falls out of the bottom when you reach the jungle level) only adds to the tragedy of this game and how it was fucked over by konami's coporate team making it online only with microtransactions. Like if they spent a little more time making the second area feel like it wasn't half finished this could have been merely irritating
its still a great game if you can get over how shitty africa is introduced, like yeah Afghanistan i know the map from mgsv woo then just some random cut parts of the africa map without anything cool, its such a small area to explore compared to afghan and the story becomes so short, but then again blame corponami and their greed for what happened, kojima deserved the raise he asked for and they did this because of it
@@meowxeno tbh the african area was more fun to explore than the afghan one, it had more enemies variations, even through it was small compared to Afghan, it was alright.
I don’t know why, but I feel like Metal Gear Survive could have worked as a sandbox survival with base-building and a hint of RAFT. Just have a dude forced to survive against the carnivores that would be inevitably attracted to the destroyed Mother Base! Face off against sea-pirates and scavengers attracted to the millions in metal, medicine and weapons. Deal with sea storms and stuff. Once you build your raft or steal a boat, you need to navigate to a new land with its own survival problems and weather systems. New animals to eat and avoid. A STEALTH ACTION SURVIVAL game with MGS or Yakuza levels of wackiness would be great!
Coming back to this video as a metal gear fan, I expected a little disappointment from the whole concept and story behind Survive, but I didn't expect to feel pain hearing "Overwatch Loot boxes."
To me the real horrif part was attaching metal gear to this games name. Would have been better without it. Also might have been a fun gane if the coop wasn't limited to select maps on wave defense
The wave defense was what made the game fun. It was intense and required skill and team work, I don’t see how the gameplay mechanics would work without it. the story mode was meh but the multiplayer was fantastic. Also worth noting that this was a planned dlc (the idea of the zombies and the base defense elements and the survival elements even came from Kojima before he left according to designer documents) for mg5 that was made into a full game, which is why the story mode feels so bland and incomplete compared to the phenomenal multiplayer because it was originally meant to be a few missions and nothing more then a way to introduce the backdrop of the story and the gameplay mechanics to the player and was not intended to be a full length story campaign
MGSV is 9 years old. It's practically retro now. Genuinely can't think of anything Konami's pushed out since then that was received positively. But don't worry guys! SH2 Remake is gonna be lit! Ahh it looks sooo cool you guys why is everyone assuming it's gonna be bad???? Everyone remembers Konami!! Game publishers never let you down!!
MG Survive is just a tower defense game with MGSV gameplay. It's actually really fun if you give it a try. Too bad the single player is just an annoying grindy resource management simulator. If anyone is wondering, the reason why you need to pay for a second character slot is because there is a special currency you earn doing a mission at your base (I can't remember if it was daily or like 8 hours cooldown or something like that), and the currency is for the account and not the character, and you have different cooldowns for each save. I might be wrong, but as far as i can remember that was it
You're horrendously wrong, never talk about features you don't know about again. You are talking directly out of your ass. The second character slot is so you can basically have a second mother base to collect resources from, as well as other daily challenges being able to be done on repeat and more animals to hunt. You clearly didn't get why that was a thing. It's not a save file, it's part of your original character.
I was having a semi fun time with this game until I found out the base need supply's daily, in real time, or it starts to degrade. gave up after that. also the best things are rare drops in multiplayer and there is a class system but you need to beat the game before even getting to that.
@@dansmith1661 once you get npcs that mill about they need food, water, and medical supply's, and if you dont play for a few days they can die when your offline.
Coming from a person who has never actually played a metal gear game, before survive. I went into it with no prejudice. And tbh I honestly really enjoyed it. I think it gets more flack than it deserves at least. The mg5 engine plays really nice, and it honestly works really well for the style of game it is. That's just my two cents.
Metal Gear Survive is what happens when you cut out the heart of the franchise, and defile the half dead carcass into an unrecognizable mess. If they really wanted to create an spinoff, they would be better off making an sequel to Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.
Or at least making a game of prequel for MGS4 only focusing on Raiden before his transformation to cyborg, like the original MGS Rising. But yeah, a sequel for MGRR is a must. And I want to see Rose and John again.
Am sad how Survive turned out, it could've been a neat "What if?" if it had more time to be developed. Lord of Dust is neat as are the other two bosses... I wish MGSV could've gotten new Monster Hunter fights like PW did.
I just want to take a moment to apreciate how you actually managed to grow from a fallout 76 channel to something way more entertaining (i'll watch you play anything tho)
Not many people will agree but i think Sons Of Liberty is the best in the series and it needs a remaster but saying that they'll probably screw it up if that happened.
Ngl I enjoyed playing this game purely because I like the building type survival games like this (it was also the first of any metal gear game I played)
Still not bored Me and my friends still play this on the PS4 enjoy the coop mode but single player is just awful. I got all the OP stuff from armors and weapons, didn't use bows n arrows, just exclusively using guns and elemental spear and we divided into roles. Me and my friend as berserker, while other 1 is base defense and builder. Overall, it's 50/100.
Sometime in the future, in 2080 or whatever, someone would make a detailed lore video about this game, explaining that this game was a misunderstood masterpiece 😂😂😂
People also say that forspoken will be called in 5-10 years an underrated masterpiece. Sorry, no. Not even if quality drops even further some games are just bad. Of course there will always be someone that likes something no matter how objectively bad it is (for me it's brink, to this day it's my favorite game in terms of pvp shooters)
The game is actually surprisingly good; as someone who came into it without any foreknowledge I found the early game especially good and the defensive gameplay challenging but rewarding. It just crashed in the second half, abysmally. It's a damn shame too.
@@lordofthecucks6553 To this day, it still has some of the best temporary base defense shit in any game anywhere. It's a system that, with limits, is infinitely superior to a host of other games in the same genre and should and would have been emulated if not for buttmad fanboys. It starts strong and peaks in the jungle when you defend with mortars and then quickly falls down but a better publisher working with a different studio could make it a solid 10/10 alas
As someone who's played this game, and... ssssslliiightly enjoyed it... Understanding the enemies, effectiveness, experimentation with the other melee weapons, and... playing Co-Op (aaaafter the entire story for the subclasses 😪) It's... alright. Not worth your time, and your money of course, but... It *caaan* be fun in the precise circumstances. 0/10 though.
I played it with an open mind. It was alright, and I like the bow and arrow (wished it was in MGSTPP). Now my problem is that it is online-only only. Meaning the single player missions cannot be played offline (as if Konami wasn't already stupid enough). The co-op is just one of the repetitive missions, instead of joining your pal in the campaign. Hell, Peace Walker, a PSP handheld game, have a bunch and bunch of missions (both campaign and extra) has a co-op mode. For an Online-only game, you'd think they would have Implemented a co-op feature for campaign as well for your buddies to tag along or separate to build your base and collect more resources. And random stuffs based on online time and such. Instead, Konami screwed it up royally just like they screwed their fans. I do not know what really goes on between Hideo and Konami, and Hideo and David on the Big Boss voice change fiasco, but we do know how Survive ended up as. If I have the time in the world, I would just move all the Survive asset to The Phantom Pain and doing something with it.
I never knew this game existed. I started off with MGSV:TPP and I'm beginning to become a fan of the MGS lore haha. I plan to play MGS:GZ next. Once MGSV is out of the way, can you guys give me some recommendation on which MGS should I play after? Seems MGS3: Snake Eater is pretty popular with memes. 🤔

That 's why I didn't like people playing this game, they just expect the worse, don't try to learn how to play, doing nothing except complaining, and after that, saying that like their expectation, the game is bad. You can do that with the best game with the same result.
Exactly my opinion, I was very disappointed with many of my favorite creators who all said the same: no stamina, no health, zero equipment, zero expectations, skip all tutorials and then they complain how shitty the story and the gameplay is. The team tried their best and have made many updates and fixes to this game. This game is of course not the best Zombie and survival game, but it is a game to play with friends and have fun or goof around. I also like how all of them show their characters dehydrated and on the verge of death because of starvation and than complain how their character can’t sprint or take hits, like bro what do you expect? Also running with gas-mask in a dusted area takes a lot of stamina and inner strength because its harder to breathe, so it makes sense that character has to make more breaks. I don’t understand why he ran at the beginning of the story mode right into the dust, Vergil tells you at least a hundred times that its dangerous to enter without an oxygen-tank. I had a lot of fun with this game and a lot of my friends to. Like I said in the beginning it no Game Award Nomination but it certainly doesn’t deserve the hate.
It's not entirely bad. I got stuck on the last mission though, they send a massive amount of waves and my defenses just cant handle them. The automated turrets do good damage, but they don't take much to get destroyed.
I got this game for like $2 and it's just been sitting in my Steam library. Every now and then I'll try to give it a try thinking that if I make it past the first few hours it might not be too bad and then I immediately uninstall it after playing for 20 minutes

'and my stamina bar ran out. i'm filled with indiscriminate rage' - me in every game with a stamina bar
I'm the same there... Except when it's dark souls. Cuz then I panic.
I mean...it doesn't matter is you use the microtransations
So that's the only good thing about the game
its still a great game if you can get over how shitty africa is introduced, like yeah Afghanistan i know the map from mgsv woo then just some random cut parts of the africa map without anything cool, its such a small area to explore compared to afghan and the story becomes so short, but then again blame corponami and their greed for what happened, kojima deserved the raise he asked for and they did this because of it
It's disgusting.
Seethe over it
@@meowxeno tbh the african area was more fun to explore than the afghan one, it had more enemies variations, even through it was small compared to Afghan, it was alright.
Yeah, it could have worked, with another developer or in another universe.

@@king_of_codbo255 I bet it was a game 🥲👍🏾
To me the real horrif part was attaching metal gear to this games name. Would have been better without it. Also might have been a fun gane if the coop wasn't limited to select maps on wave defense
The wave defense was what made the game fun. It was intense and required skill and team work, I don’t see how the gameplay mechanics would work without it. the story mode was meh but the multiplayer was fantastic.
Also worth noting that this was a planned dlc (the idea of the zombies and the base defense elements and the survival elements even came from Kojima before he left according to designer documents) for mg5 that was made into a full game, which is why the story mode feels so bland and incomplete compared to the phenomenal multiplayer because it was originally meant to be a few missions and nothing more then a way to introduce the backdrop of the story and the gameplay mechanics to the player and was not intended to be a full length story campaign
the first metal gear for the msx actually came out July 7, 1987 making it 35 on the 7th

I can understand torturing your friends or holding their loved ones hostage, but this, this is just inhumane!
I love how he is soo honest.
Kev would be the kind of president would tell you is stealing and I would mind
I was having a semi fun time with this game until I found out the base need supply's daily, in real time, or it starts to degrade. gave up after that. also the best things are rare drops in multiplayer and there is a class system but you need to beat the game before even getting to that.

I think it gets more flack than it deserves at least. The mg5 engine plays really nice, and it honestly works really well for the style of game it is. That's just my two cents.
You are wrong. Go play the real Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Survive is what happens when you cut out the heart of the franchise, and defile the half dead carcass into an unrecognizable mess.
If they really wanted to create an spinoff, they would be better off making an sequel to Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.
