Smyth was a character I always wanted in this version. Glad we finally have him. Thankfully he wasn't packed in with a retirement home resident.
The head sculpt for Scythe would make a great Captain Planet with a repaint!
Omg, I can totally see that.
His expression isnt right for captain planet. He looks mad/bitter. Cap is supposed to have an expression that conveys a lot of positivity and all that
Use a don cheadle james rhoades head
LMAO, when I was little I used to confuse them.
@@rjzavala87maybe Captain pollution then
I actually don't mind Peter's outfit that they went with. He wares this outfit for the majority of the show and it's what I think of him wearing. He only wore the other one for the 1st season.
I think the Peter headsculpt looks decent, compared to the previous Peter with the stupid huge glasses from the retro carded wave, which was very much a TAS wave any way.
Agreed…I think his cheeks just sink in a little too much
I only like this set for Peter, I'm surprised no one mentioned the tiny size of smyth, he's practically smaller than Peter! Lol and his face looks derpy, eyes too high and close. The Peter looks great! Articulation could be better though.
Kinda weird Hasbro gave Peter "thwip" hands but no web shooters.
Only Hasbro to make the most muscular, well proportioned body and use it on a character that is a scientist who is sitting on a chair most of the time...
Smythe's head is good for 90's Eddie Brock
I hope they make a Spiderman TAS accurate Man Spider
Me too 😂
The Smythe figure is pretty awesome! I really dig the skin tone and matte finish, along with a pretty damn good sculpt! As you said, it could use some shading to really make it pop, but it's still pretty cool! The peter figure looks pretty good from a distance, but yeah man, what's up with that Barbie style face? It's bizarre as all heck! But, I rekon, it's good enough to be on a shelf... just don't get too close! Lol! Sik
The Peter head looks good, cartoonish. Smyth looks butt ugly, eyes too high and close lol
Honestly if they shrink down the Smythe body down a bit and given us a diaphragm joint, it would be a perfect tas spider-man body
I'm kind of the opposite on this one. Never gave two craps about Smythe so I don't care about the figure. I do think of the polo first when I think animated Peter, but I confess his second look as represented here was the better of the two. I think his eyes are fine, it's that doofus smile that I don't like and his jaw should be more square. I also find it pretty hilarious that Hasbro's animated Peter is significantly taller than their animated Spider-Man. They look ridiculous next to each other. That's not really this figure's fault as it's a problem with that Spidey body which never made any sense as a Spider-Man from the 94 show. Only thing I like about that Spider-Man being so small is it makes the animated Venom look bigger by comparison. This whole animated two-pack wave though has been a real dud, as far as I'm concerned.
It is the best Spider-Man body they have made, so i was happy to get that color blue on it, but as a TAS Spidey it doesn't really work and is now the third time they have screwed up a seemingly TAS based figure.
do you have any Legends in your personal collection? i know how you feel about them (rightfully so) but I'm not sure if you only get these to review or for yourself
Almost all of them not counting mcu or gamerverse
I kinda wanted these guys equally, but I’m not buying much Hasbro lately because the value is terrible.
laserpants from 3poa said on the last loose but complete what reuse was used for this peter and its the legs from Mr. Knight, the arms are MCU Klaw and the torso is prob new
Hope they make a new blank based on Smythe, his physique and articulation are pretty good
What I hate about Legends is inconsistency. There are some good figures, some figures are half-good, half-bad, and some just suck.
Yeahhh. You get great figures like the MCU Moon Knight and also complete garbage like Darwin.
@@muisverriet true that brother. Look at them rerelease Spiderman three pack, this time individually and with actors' heads
@@deszaras3 I saw. That's super scummy.
@@muisverriet If they really cared about fans they'd release the heads on their own as well as with the new figures, as an accessorie set or something.
I don’t mind the dark pink looking shirt Peter has it reminds me of a similar looking shirt my grandpa always used to wear
Its pointless to get smythe if you don’t own a kingpin because these two are always seen working together in the show. Smythe being the only character i could not identify nor knew anything of.
There was a Smythe story in TASM in the early 90s. This figure would scratch an itch for some people from that era 🤷♂️
Is there any other company that still uses swivels and hinges for the torso ? I can't think of any. Why are they still designing figures like it was done 25 years ago? Literally any other figure from any company has a diaphragm. Looks a billion million trillion times better, functions better. Just ... why ?
They are clownishly unable or unwilling to implement them correctly. Whenever they use them they have severely limited range 80% of the time and even the 20% that aren't severely limited are still only decent. Jada has set the standard for what we should now expect from neck and torsos from 1/12 and until Hasbro can catch up they will be the old dinosaur.
To be fair, even McFarlane often screws up with their ball-jointed torsos on their DC Universe figures.
i couldn't stop staring at that mullet
I think Smythe's head sculpt is what bugs me the most about the figure. Look at pictures from the animated series. his hair isn't so pronounced, his eyes are different. He doesn't have pink lipstick as well. The head sculpt we got looks a bit goofy looking. I think if it was closer to the box art I would've liked it better. Peter is perfect imo. Don't really get why everyone wants the shirtless one more. I think the colors on this one fit just better. I ordered them both and can't wait to received them. Even with the complains about Smythe's head it's still an awesome 2 pack!
I think the Peter head has a good likeness to the cartoon. The paint apps may be throwing it off?
Peter's arms are from the MCU Klaw/ Andy Circus figure. They always had that thick shelf of a forearm. Not perfect, but I like it more than the other Parker.
Smith is interesting, looks more comic than cartoon. I don't know if there are others humanoids in the Spider-Slayer group. So I don't know if Smith is needed to start of a team.
The texture to Smith's the artificial legs was a good addition.
My only major hope for Marvel Legends (unlikely) is that they start sculpting bodies to look like superheroes. The line would be outstanding even at $25 if they sculpted every body like Smythe. I'd love a bit more paint as well, but I can touch figures up. I can't fix body proportion problems.
Oh, and they need to drop the stupid neck hinge. It's so ugly and works so poorly. I don't buy any figures with neck hinges, I just despise the joint.
Add ab crunch to that list. They never look good and break the sculpt. The diaphragm joint should be standard.
@@tonileo9849 First they need to be able/willing to implement the diaphragm joint and double ball neck correctly. They have done it on select figures, but for the most part they giv them pitiful range almost seeming to "prove" that the hinge and crunch are "better" even though they are objectively worse in 99% of cases.
@@theraven268 oh yeah i was thinking tve same thing. But unfortunately we can talk all we want about this, hasbro wont change
@@tonileo9849combined with a ball joint at the waist. Like Jada's Street Fighter figs.
This realistic/cartoony style of headsculpts remind me of early PS3 era faces. It has some realistic elements to it, but there's still a mannequin look to it. Hasbro is aiming for a realistic look, but they just haven't figured it out how to do it consistently. Compare that to the good ToyBiz faces (the actual good ones, not the "Scarlet Witch" type faces). Those looked good because they went for a comic/cartoon look, so having less detailed facial features works.
3:46 Agreed. Looks weird. Someone on Etsy was selling a TAS Peter headsculpt for 3D printing that is waaaaaay better than that. Having said that, I don't care for Smythe, but I would have paid whatever they asked for a two-pack with that Peter (even with the weird headsculpt) and a proper TAS Spider-Man figure.
Idk i thought cartoon peter immediately when i saw it. when i was a kid i literally used to say that exact thing about how his face looked dumb and weird so the figure matches, just a bit off lmao
1:00 The Smythe artwork has the same pose as the comic art used on the 1994 Toy Biz figure's cardback. It's just the comic art redrawn with a TAS design. Plagiarism? They also got the shoulder weapons wrong. Here and on the figure they're like blades. In the show they were lasers with holes at the tips.
for me the peter headsculpt is pretty spot on
I would like to have the option to buy them separately plus it's better to give consumers more choice
I agree with Anthony about Peter's arms and shoulders. Popeye arms. The face print seems to be ruining the sculpt.
Both figures would benefit from ball jointed waist and diaphragm. Or even go the GI Joe classified route: ball jointed waist and torso crunch higher up. Oh and both should have a dumbell joint in the skull and a ball joint at the base of the neck. Though Hasbro seem to mess them up on a regular basis.
Hello Anthony. I love your reviews, very in depth. You are the only one I think who talk about anatomy and even if you can give the impression to be harsh, it's very informative for us buyers.
I was wondering...since Hasbro seems unable to make a single good Magneto figure, do you plan to review the Mafex Magneto ?
Thanks. No. I'm not a fan of what mafex did with him and the price is too high to buy something that doesn't look much better than it does
The Smythe figures kinda comes off as a NECA product(the sculpt and matte finish)
Let's not get carried away lol
Actually, my Smythe has both biceps gapping between the shoulder. I try pushing them into a flush position, but they end up sliding back into a gapped position…gonna have to fix it cause it looks shitty.
I wanted both but I wish Smyth was bigger
Not the peter i wanted, but i do like the selection. I skipped because the face but looking at your screen shot comparison, hes not really that off model. The biggest knock to me is hes got that NECA Gargoyles thing of being excessively lean, and instead of a squarer face, it looks more oblong, and that ends up throwing the features off. The eyes actually smaller vs the face than the reference but its the iris to white proportion that makes it look so doe eyed. Any one feature is only a little off but is a death by 1000 cuts to me. That and just the tone. I wonder if its a cell animation issue that everything has some grey/green and Hasbro was using some official colorsheet.
Torso really should be more like the Vulcan body or even the Luke Cage netflix.
This Peter is more like an Acessory than a Figure
Peter Parker will look good with the Street Fighter Jada!
Great review !
Glad I watched this before I buy it, I was skeptical but it’s a good enough 2 pack.
I think the sneakers are reuse from the Retro Peter Parker.
I like both tbh
a bit weird since this is supposed to be for "Animated Series" Spider-man but the Peter Parker is a taller figure compared to the Walmart Exclusive Animated Series Cel Shaded Spider-man 🤔 oh well it's just those inconsistencies from Hasbro. The Smythe Figure is good, hopefully they get to be re-release haven't got the chance to get the 2-pack. Great Review
I thought the same i was hoping Anthony to compare them both by the size and proportions
I only wanted the civilian Peter, but this one kinda sucks. It's too big.
SOLD!
I kind of want this set since I like this Peter head a bit more than the RYV head
Why does this Peter have thwip hands? Where does he plan on shooting webs from?
they put the sculptors name in the box right? or is it only on specific figures
Hardly ever.
The faces totally throw all of these recent legends off. I don't care how good everything else is on them, I can't get over the weird faces.
is that a Peter or a Ken? LoL
🤘
Hi Anthony I know this is a late comment but are you able to put peters head on Spider-Man bodies?
The ball will fit but the different bodies will have different length necks and proportions so it'll probably look weird on most, if not all, of them
Nice review.
I only care about this set for Peter's lower body so hopefully people sell him off for cheap.
Don't really care about the strange grey mutant cockroach dude with the mullet. Looks really dumb. Guess he's a thing from the cartoons.
CHAD parker
Y is that Peter Parker so jacked lol
That's how he was drawn for the cartoon.
👍
"Hasbro gonna Hasbro" - Bwahahahahahaha. Why did ML give a pair of thwipping hands for Peter? He needs his web-slingers! He can walk up a wall as Peter though - so why not wall-crawlers instead? "Hasbro gonna Hasbro".
You don't have figures from collection to compared with?
...what?
@@AnthonysCustoms what???
Peter should have had MJ insted of smythe ...just saying
😎👍🏼
The face is too thin
Those are two of the most uninspired figs I have seen in awhile 😒. Granted I’m not a spider man collecter

Dang look at you go ,wanna reward?
@@thelockpot7836 lol nah. I just never been first around here. 😂
@@thelockpot7836 I wish we could find the person responsible for this annoying trend. That person deserves a "reward" for his contribution methinks.
Another 🥱🥱😴 release by marvel team. Thank you Anthony for making honest reviews. Saved my money.
