      If your recording is waaay too quiet even at max volume, considerchecking what youre doing wrong. If everything is correct, get a preamp, but if its working fine and doesnt have noise floor issues then dont bother. Get better cables or record in your closet with clothes to dampen noise.

    Thanks for the video. I own the SSL2+ and works for me but a friend is recommending me to change to an Audient ID14 or if possible, to an Apollo Twin, due to the better quality of the preamps. Would you agree with that recommendation? Thanks!

      I’ve literally used everything you mentioned. I’m currently using the SSL2+ too. The preamps are the best sounding ones I’ve ever used. The twin and audient preamps sound what I would describe as sterile. The ssl2 has beefier full sounding pres in my opinion. If I were you I’d stick to using the ssl2+ and perhaps upgrade your microphone (depending what it is)

    Thanks for the review. I just got one. I am not experienced using condenser mics with an audio interface but feel that it require high value on the gain knob (about 8 out of 10) on my KM184 to reach descent recording levels (-24 to -18 dbFS) which then sounds great when normalising the loudness to -23 LUFS, but it means that when using it live it requires almost max gain and it peaks quickly on the last to positions when increasing the gain further. I notice that you have it at about 6-7 out of 10, but I assume you had to boost it in post. Would be great to hear about your experience.

    • @Fiveash-Art

    • @MrAw3sum
      @MrAw3sum 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah all studio xlr mics are gonna sound really quiet before cpmpression. If youre talking about"live" through voice chatting, i think voicemeter banana has a compression setting ( but it looks confusing to use so i would use a tutorial or something.) Also, are you using the 48v phantom power?

    • @megajonson9075
      @megajonson9075 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrAw3sum Hi, thanks for the reply. I have got to use it a while now and yes I am using phantom power, but I have understood the difference of using it "live" compared to recording for post processing. I would say that I usually record at 75% gain which I normalise at -23 LUFS and it sounds great. When I want to use it live, I usually use the same gain (75%) but let Logic Pro add a high pass filter, compress it somewhat and then put a limiter which boosts it while keep hit hard limited as well. This seems to work well. I guess my problem was that I took what I saw in different videos as live use while it actually is recorded and the post-processed to reach high enough levels.

I’m keeping the ssl since it’s bus powered and if I ever wanted to record somewhere else I could, but when in my studio I’ll use the twin

    • @perfectalpha
      @perfectalpha 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@UndergroundSoundProductions I ultimately sold my CAD E100S since I rarely used it and bought an RME Babyface Pro FS. The biggest reason for me choosing that interface is I wanted supreme versatility to go along with portability and low latency. It doesn't have built in compression/dynamics, but it isn't a big deal. I can set dynamics up in the DAW and use plugins in essentially real time (sub 3.5ms latency on my M1 Pro Macbook) with loopback.
      I don't do rap/music. All voiceover stuff with my MKH416, but I appreciate being able to plug my Xbox Series X into the SPIDF In and use processed mic audio in Discord with the folks I'm playing with. Then when I need to do a VO recording, I just get up and walk to my spot and record. No plugs or anything required. I also don't want to be nudged towards UAD plugins since other companies offer similar/better performance for a lot less money. Just depends on what you want though.
