  • In our first review, I decided to try out Verdigris, from Dirty Down. This is a really good product, albeit rather pricey, but the desired effect was achieved on this Basilicanum Statue.
    I also mention out friend Danny, who runs Easy 8 Online Painting Club over in the UK (Hey Danny, any Doctor Who models coming up?) Check out his channel here:

    Thanks a lot for the detailed look at the verdigris! Prior to the grimdark vid, it never occurred to me to smooth those edges and seeing it done here will change the way I utilize it moving forward. That moment when you come back to it after cleaning up the edges with water and the gradient it creates is so awesome to see. The time and effort invested using multiple paints can really stack up and saving you from that is where this effect shines!
    With an airbrush, from personal experience and other's input, you're good to go as long as you immediately flush with water after spraying.
    I'd love to hear your thoughts on the rust!

      So glad to read that you enjoyed the video and my work! I'll definitely be making a Rust video in the near future. Still need to purchase the Moss effects paint.

    Fantastic video, and lovely result. I love the look you achieved btw before the effect paint was applied by the way, so when you added the effect man! It was good!

    Really useful video. I was considering picking up the verdigris too. Probably will, once I have a project that's a good fit for it.

      It's funny, I'm finding things on projects that can use it. Not too much, don't want to go overboard. Glad you liked the video!

    Thanks for this video. I bought a bottle of this a while ago for an upcoming Chaos Knights project. I did a tester on some Death Guard but didn't get the lighter effect, but now I see that the "rub off" with the damp cotton swab seems to be the key point.

    Their Rust is hands down the most realistic rust paint on the market. Nothing even comes close.

      I love Patina and Rust on miniatures so i buy almost every rust effect paints i come across, and i agree, The Dirty Down Rust Effect is hands down the most impressive 1-bottle-solution i've tried so far. The only ones that top it are those mixtures that comes with bags of real steel rust flakes and powders etc, but they are just way too messy to only achieve a slightly "better" result.

      I also use an iron oxide paint, but that requires more work after it dries. I simply can't have anything looking new. Has to be weathered and aged. -John

    I’m thinking about the 250ml bottle of the moss. The huge bottle is more cost effective.

    I have been using the original rust for a few years, before it was Dirty Down - back then I could get the bottles from the UK for £8 plus S&H to the US of around £10 - so of course I'd order a bunch. I haven't yet tried the verdigris but the moss is fantastic - though I seemed to have lost my bottle of it. It's somewhere in my studio...

      They have a sure fire hit with these effects paints. Goblin hut sent me a bottle of the Moss effects, free and no strings attached, so I'm planning on a project that I can utilize all three. Thinking that will be in about a month.

    Did not expect that light color to show up. Was that because of layering this product or did it appear over time?

    • @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898
      @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It actually appeared after I started knocking it back with water. I guess that thinning resulted in the lighter patina coming through.

    The stuff in the bag is Vermiculite. Probably just a cheap way to add extra impact protection. It's mostly harmless.

    Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy this surprisingly its actually cheaper to buy it from Element Games in the UK and have it shipped over here I looked at buying it from the distributor in the USA it would have been $28 with tax and shipping I bought it from Element Games even after currency conversion and shipping it was only 15 dollars

    Can this be applied directly on top of plastic, or does it still require primer or a base coat of whatever paint.

    • @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898
      @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried it on bare plastic but would guess it might work. It is on the thicker side so it might stick with no issues. Please let us know if you try it out! Thanks!

    Hey mate, hope you can help me. Just bought Vertigris and tried it on two models. I can't seem to get the stuff to change color. It just stays dark green.
    I heated the vertigris bottle, heated the model, was shaking the bottle for 5 minutes (timed, ball bearing was all over the place) but the stuff stays dark green. When I take off the vertigris off the model it does change color a little bit in some places.
    Any idea what i'm doing wrong?

    • @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898
      @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for reaching out, hope I can help. I've found that if the paint goes into a wet or semi wet figure the lighter green has an easier time coming out. I also went over different areas with just a wet brush with water on it. Alternatively, a small spray bottle with water can also help. I'll be using that technique in a future video. Please let me know if any of that helps you out!

    My first thought when I saw that stuff in the bag was that it was meant to absorb moisture, like if a bottle opened up during shipping

    • @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898
      @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That, and I'm thinking that it helps to absorb any shock if there are a lot of bottles together in a case. Although they are plastic bottles... 🤔

    I think the price is worth it if I save the money not buying the other colors I would need to achieve this effect, then add in the time savings.

      @@outofthisworldmodelsandmin898 you can buy 250ml bottles for £35, it might work out cheaper for you to buy it that way mate, less cost for shipping too as it's one big bottle instead of lots of little ones at seperate times.

      @outofthisworldmodelsandmin898  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
