Adding a green/yellow-ish basecoat and adding zenithal airbrush layers to build the yellow followed by a very thin green wash would save a ton of work. Doing a splendid yellow job (which is nightmarish) to then smear it with that "instant grim dark ooze" looks cool in theory, but one of the advantages of grim dark art style is that it can save a lot of work. :P

Streaking grime from AK probably.. AK012 is the product.,. you will also need white spirits as its an enamel based product, so water doesnt work for thinning.

Recently getting into the minis and I need advice…
How do I thin the paints? And what advice would you give to someone new to the hobby?

Instead of the brush you could just put some mineral spirits on a q-tip and use that to wipe it away

Yeah, that's a method also. Seems like this marine he demonstrates this technique on looks great. Maybe learn to use a brush instead of a qtip.

Oils paints and mineral spirits. Make sure to gloss varnish first. Dry for a couple hours, wipe with q tip. Highlight after wiping away what you want for desired grimdark style. This video is cutting out steps. You also have to matte seal as a last step.

    How longs the working time?
Could it work on darker models?

It’s just thinned oil paint, so realistically you could probably wipe it down with thinner (that white spirit) a few days after applying, but the longer it’s on the harder it gets to wipe off.
Scale modelers have been making their own versions of this for years.
