- I really enjoyed the music for League of Legends champ Mordkeiser. It's violent, vicious, and incredibly powerful. It's also really fun to guess what these characters are like only from their music because Riot does such an excellent job of guiding our ears when we listen to these themes!

It would be the last raid boss going by lore, he is the strongest Champion in lore and potentially the strongest character in lore, especially if going by home turf advantage like Watchers in the Void or Mordekaiser in his Death realm

What I love about mordekaiser is that theres no sad backstory, there's no redeeming qualities, there is only villainy
There's still some relatability in his realization that his whole life was misguided, as well as his fear/anger/unwillingness of being forgotten and fading away

@@CyrusL Most Voidborn beings and aspects (including darkin) either fear him or would do well to fear him. While there are a few canonically more fearsome champions, they are few and far between, with Asol coming to mind. He'd slap even Kindred around, being a some kind of self adopted, more influential half-brother to it.
Mordekaiser is so metal, that all his old skills had names of heavy metal bands. He's so metal, that he had the first skin of a line called "Pentakill", in which he's a metal guitarist, and which would later have its own set of songs, albums, and even a live concert with lore and an interactive event for viewers and stuff. If you wonder who's the most "musically" themed champion in League, some people will say Sona. Others may say Seraphine. I have no doubt at all, it's definitely Mordekaiser
But they toned that down a lot after his rework. They could have kept most of the old ability names with his new kit (for example, Iron Man as his W or Mace of Spades as his Q) but they didn't. They said it was because they wanted him to be more than a reference but I think the real reason is that they were a bit afraid of legal action.
I would actually argue Kindred. They are only as powerful as they are because of the songs and stories about them.

Mordekaiser is not only (one of the) big bad(s) of the world of Runeterra, but is also the only champ who essentially breaks the rules of the game and can rip you out of summoner's rift (the main arena) into his death realm for a usually one sided 1v1.
he also tends to break the rules of the game on a coding level.

His ultimate ability is one of the coolest in the game, he takes an opponent with him into a separate dimension called the Death Realm for like ~7 seconds where it's a forced 1v1 and the opponent has very limited space in which to run away
He takes you straight to Brazil
He straight up rends the souls out of weak willed people and forges them into something more useful for his campaign of death.
If you won’t fight for him, you shall be the stones which will (quite literally.) carry his army to victory.
Nothing gets more Metal than that.

Mordekaiser is the personification of "Literally too angry to die", tempered by surprising cunning and fueled by a total lack of compassion. I love this lad mainly because, in the grand scheme of things, Mordekaiser is one of the more simple champions, lore AND game-wise. He's a big boi with a big mace and he wants to conquer everything. Dassit.

@@ukuviispert9599 technically speaking, trynd is powered by aatrox, and is able to channel the darkins gift to him (aatrox is grooming him as a suitable host) to prevent his death for a time. its borrowed power. morde however, lived his life as a conqueror of many lands. he died, but found no great hall waiting him. he got so pissed off with his faith being wrong, that he was able to use sheer willpower to prevent his souls natural decay in the death realm. he managed to claw himself back into runeterra, and there is literally not a single creature capable of killing morde that we know of. you can defeat him. you can destroy him. he will not die. and he will come back

And honestly, even that one time Leblanc and the Black Rose "defeated" him, by throwing him back into *his own realm*
Yeah, that only happened because Mordekaiser allowed it, literally. He knew about Leblancs Plan the entire time and could've put an end to this (and the entire Black Rose for that matter) at any point. The only reason he allowed the banishment to happen was that is played right into *his* Plan of returning to his own realm to amass an Army. And it had the added benefit of the Black Rose and Leblanc thinking they upstaged *and* overpowered him.
Which means every contingency Leblanc is currently cooking up for Mordekaisers inevitable return, is doomed to fail. Because she's working off of a completly wrong baseline of Mordekaisers Abilities to begin with.
Honestly, Mordekaiser isnt too angry to die.. hes too damn stuborn to die.. xD So the title "Too angry to die" still goes to Tryndamere
When you have time, you should check out the pentakill album that league has. Its mainly metal and rock. The 3nd one has its own story and lore. Riot even had its own live concert for the lost chapter album. Mordekaiser is one of band memebers along with Kayle, Sona, Olaf, Karthus, and Yorick. Veigo is the antagonist for the 3nd album.

Morde is one of the champs whose voicelines I just absolutely love. His long walk voice lines are fantastic. "In the lands beyond, blackened ichor filled a crumbling sky, as souls withered unto nothing. But I refused to fade." The way the lines are delivered have an innate strength behind them. The raw confidence that he radiates makes him really fun to play.
If I recall correctly, the name Sahn-Uzal is based off of Old Arabic for "Wandering Fortress". Very apt!

You not finished watching skill preview - his Ultimate is badass! It takes him and one selected enemy into different realm, where only they are present and no one else can affect them, so it is like a duel of sorts, and a scary one, as you can't escape.

While he is certainly one of the biggest bad guys, he is not THE biggest bad thing in Runeterra.
Runterra is just full of ticking time bombs.
Mordekaiser just gets stronger and stronger as people die. Either as mortar for his empire in the afterlife, or as servants in a presumably humongous army.

I consistently listen to a playlist of all league themes that plays them in a random order, trying to deduct from the music which champion is depicted
This practice has also helped me gain a new understanding for music and to convey it in a new way

A bit of theory.
The mist from Viego weakens the barrier of the realm of the living and dead, so Mordekaiser is currently on the Shadowisles amusingly watching Viegos tantrum adn fall.
Looking at Swains voicelines, the one who has the Demon of Secrets Raum with him (Raum being one of the two known Demons that Mordekaiser enslaved (Tiberius or Tibbers being the other) informed Swain of Mordekaiser and the Leblanc was the one that Sealed him centuries ago, in Swains voicelines the future is foreshadowed:
"If you kill me you leave Noxus with something far worse" Swain knows of Mordekaiser and sees himself as the only thing capable of stopping him.
"If they knew what was to come, would they still struggle to stay alive?" Talking about the inevetable rise of Mordekaiser and the war that will follow where again generations of humans will march into their deaths
"I could kill them now but it is far crueler to show them I was right" Swain wants to unite Runeterra under the banner of Noxus hoping that such a grand alliance could stop Mordekaiser and anyone resisting Noxus is just helping Mordekaiser win.
"A king remains in the mists while another marches" People thought the King in the mists is Viego, but the King marching was Viego, the King in the mists is Mordekaiser
"They fight the mists above the seas, never looking beneath it" Another one easily mistook, but that again could call out to people fighting Viego as if he is the enemy, never looking to what is behind Viego aka Mordekaiser
This coul just be me reading to far into it, but Swain having the Demon of Secrets makes it plausible for there to be hidden meanings in his voicelines.

My favourite bit about his lore is about how he picked his name from the language of the death realm and it's just German.
My favourite part about himself is his over the top voice acting, the dude is just so unapologetically evil.
His animation and ability sounds help too.

The thing about League's universe is that there's so many characters or entities trying to either destroy it or take over by force that no one can really take the "big bad" title. I feel like there's so many world ending events trying to take place at once that they all kinda level out 😂
Talking about the 'Big Bads' of League at the beginning is interesting because Marco's right.
Mordekaiser is an incredibly powerful figure within Runeterra, but he's certainly not the most powerful. An incredibly powerful sorcerer who has conquered the Realm of Death and countless souls of the dead, Mordekaiser is still ultimately mortal and limited. He lacks the infinity of cosmic power of the Targonian Celestials, or the Darkin. He lacks the primordial essentialism of the Freljordian gods. Before entities that existed since the very dawn of creation? Beings like Aurelion Sol, Fiddlesticks, Ashlesh (Nilah's pact demon and one of the 10 primal demon lords) or The Void and The Watchers? Mordekaiser is almost laughably outclassed.
However, despite all of this, Mordekaiser is still League's most powerful and important villain. This is because out of all of these large world-ending threats, Mordekaiser is the only one who is truly villainous.
Aurelion Sol is furious at his imprisonment and wishes destruction upon all of Runeterra, sure. But this makes him vengeful, not evil. Aurelion Sol is a cosmic entity who is justifiably angry at his enslavement, but inherently a reasonable being with a pure cosmic goal.
Fiddlesticks and The Void (and by extension The Watchers) are most certainly Evil, but they are not villainous. Villainy implies a certain level of consciousness and purpose, which these entities lack. The Void's hunger for creation and Fiddlestick's hunger for fear is no more villainous than a predator's hunger for prey. It is purely instinctual, there is no greater desire or plan behind it.
Aatrox by contrast, is evil and fully aware of his actions, but his want for destruction is purely circumstantial. He states himself his evil "was not born, it was forged". In truth Aatrox is a tragic and tortured fallen hero. An individual who has turned to evil acts out of desperation, not personal gain. Aatrox simply wants peace, and if a way for him to have this peace was offered, he would take it with no hesitation. He is more a victim of the Targonian God's experimentations with human psyche than he is a villain.
Viego is considerably less powerful than any of these we've mentioned so far but the same goes for him. He wants his wife back, and the pain that is caused on the way to him is simply an unfortunate consequence.
None of these individuals are 'good' by any means. But they are not 'villains'.
Mordekaiser is not an animalistic entity, acting on instincts. He is fully cognizant and intelligent.
Mordekaiser is not a tortured or desperate individual. In life he had all he ever wanted, and in death he simply wants more.
Mordekaiser is not a vengeful individual. He has not been greatly wronged in any way.
Mordekaiser wishes to conquer all purely out of selfish desire. Sahn Uzal lived believing that might meant right. He believes with all his being that he is the mightiest, and therefore deserves everything. There is no tragic twist or sympathetic angle for Mordekaiser. He is not a force of nature nor an animalistic predator.
Mordekaiser is a villain, plain and simple.
At the level he exists at, that makes him League's greatest villain.
(side note: this is why Bel'Veth was such a significant event within League canon, because despite being a newlyborn Voidborn and likely not as powerful as an entity like Cho'Gath, she shows a vision of The Void with actual intellect and purpose. Bel'Veth is The Void not as a force of nature, or as hungry predator, but as a cognizant and self-aware villain.)

I’d say he’s stronger, he literally can’t pass on. He’s like a Darkin but without the need for flesh.
The Ascended were about even against SWARMS of void creatures, the only reason the empire actually fell is because of Xerath’s betrayal. Otherwise the Ascended would have stayed and had a reason to keep fighting. They wouldn’t have gone mad because of the lack of leadership and power struggles that opened from the Emperors death.
Mordakiser is already mad and isn’t bound by flesh. Only the Watchers and Aurelion Sol are the true “end of universe” scenarios.

I’m so glad you included listening to some of the voice lines. Always felt you were missing out on some of the best bit of lore/characterization by not having a part for it in previous vids.
Fine work as usual! Felt like I'd chime in since I'm a big lore guy. Mordekaiser is a world-ending threat to Runeterra, that much cannot be questioned. But Runeterra has been dealt a pretty bad hand as of late, so he's not even close to being the only one. Aatrox and Viego also stand for mass extinction, as well as a few other threats that I'll leave out since I don't think you've gotten to them yet. Excited for more, as always.
Mordekaiser is so badass that after death he wanted to 1v1 god of death. But then he found that there wasn't one. He decided to become god of death

Well, I think there might be 4-5 four big bads in the league universe: Mordekaiser, Aatrox, The Void as a whole (and Bel'Veth by herself), I think Xerath is, and Aurelion Sol too is up to something.

I would argue that it would be Fiddlesticks, The Void, Xolanni, Aurelion Sol, the World Runes, Mordekaiser, Aatrox, then Veigo. Pretty sure if you look at the lore, Fiddlesticks may have been what first woke the Void. As the void was just chilling in nothingness then woke up when existence was born. What else was really “noisy” at the birth of creation? The primal scream… also the Watchers are a part of the void just as much as Belveth is, thought about separating them but don’t think it’s as valid as Aatrox and Xolanni

Another great league champs theme to look at would be Sion, the Undead Juggernaut. A ruthless fighter how is so blood thirsty and angry he doesn't care of he is killing his allys or his enemys

I am not sure if i've followed you long enough to notice if you've reacted to anything "Anime" like theme songs, i personally would love to see you react to Goblin slayer's main theme OST. I just really love that anime and haven't found any creators i know reacting to it. The empty afterlife at 2:40. The aimless souls unguided until Mordakiser contorts the all the lost souls into screeching and forming the screams into his own instrumental.
Definitely a “Big Badass” that’s for damn sure, Mordakiser doesn’t need ascension or godly powers… he will crawl his way out of death itself with sheer willpower and spite alone.
I love the glow up Morde got. His theme is stellar. It's a war song. Imagine hearing those drums and the haunting, almost shrill howl of the horn far off in distance. Almost reminds me of the carnyx instrument. Also the electric guitar specifically at 10:18 reminds me of a moment in the Mad Max Fury Road score. Certain parts of his theme sound like they would fight right into that world.
Honestly league isnt really the type of thing to have one big bad, its such a wide world telling so many stories that there is no one big bad, though it is correct to say mordekaiser is some characters and storylines big bads for sure, he is a HUGE threat, just when your dealing on the scale of a entire worlds stories, you dont really have one guy who is the main threat to ALL of it, Also i just wanted to tack this onto the end of this lore blurb here, your analysis of music is truely amazing and your ability to read story from music is honestly surprising and impressive to me and you have given me a whole new appreciation for the music i hear in my video games then i ever had before, thank you so very much

If you haven't already, i can only recommend you listen to Pentakill (LoL's own Metal Band) and watch the video for "Mortal Reminder". There you can see Mordekaiser (and other LoL champions) and it is just great.

the only match of league i ever played was as mordekaiser (cause he looks like my main, Magyar, from Brawlhalla) and when i saw the league character guess videos you did i imediatelly searched to see if you had done mordekaiser. I did not find anything but then one week later here it is lol

the amount of world ending threats in league is insane, Aatrox and the other darkin, the void, Mordekaiser, Noxus (tho thats more just a actively expanding empire then a world ending threat), Veigo and the the black mist, ASol, Fiddle and prolly a few more i don't remember.

I love playing mordekaiser but never really listened to his theme. Boy it goes so hard.
I like how song is split in couple times contrastin the lore. First part is initial conquest of runeterra. then death and screams of lost souls. Then comes rebirth and second time he ravaged the lands of living with no mercy building his empire of murder.

So League has a few big bads of varying degrees of threat. The Void wants to unmake reality, Viego and his Black Mist... Actually got stopped so hes out. Theres Mordekaiser who wants to conquer the world, theres Aatrox who wants to kill the world on the off chance he dies too, you could count Lissandra and her Frostguard trying to kinda conquer the Freljord and also hold off the Void with human sacrifices. I could go on
Pity that you watched almost every ability but ended before Ultimate, when he is taking enemy to his Death Realm, literally to another layer of game.

Bonking ppl in the head with a big mace might be superflous to know but bringing someone to the death realm and force him to face you in combat in a place where you can't run and noone can help you... well speaks a lot about the character!

Untrue, Aatrox is a bit stronger than bel'veth, however Mordekaiser (Sahn' Uzal eclipses both of them. Only considered to be weaker than Aurelion, Fiddlesticks, Zoe and Bard, and finally "Kindred".

When i said the void is stronger, i meant the watchers. Not a single void champion/character, the void has/is an army just like how Mordelaiser has his own army of ghosts (not sire if i remember it correctly, but the name of the army might be "the gray legion", it was revealed in LoR)
Also, while Bel'Veth is from the void, she fights against the void- instead of trying to destroy reality, she's tryong to make a new version in her own image.

I would highly recommend you listening to the GRIME OST for the bosses and background music. It has an eerie otherworldly feel to it that perfectly reflects the games atmosphere when you first get thrown in and the boss music is just top tier, on par with most souls or bloodborne bosses in my humble opinion
But most importantly Morde is a Master of metal and a great guitar player :)
Mordekaisers Lore is as simple as it is amazing.
He lived a life of a Warlord to be rewarded in death for his dommination of the world.
And when he died and the death realm wasn't to his liking, he used the souls of the dead to build the immortal bastion and find a way back into the living world to conquer it, as death doesn't give him what he deserves.
An absolute evil with strong ambitions and no other incentive but to dominate.
So simple, yet so good.
He has one of the best Laugh sounds effects in the entire game

Morde vs Veigo is an interesting one because both are masters of the dead who claim souls as their big thing, except only Veigo has had a major lore beat so far. So naturally someone asked the devs in an AMA who would win, Morde or Veigo.
