Great video. Very useful. I would kindly ask you if it is possible to make a couple of videos about the folowing items: 1. Creating and editing styles; 2. Getting around the problem of lack of SSS (Seamless Sound Transition) on this model - how can we avoid ugly transitions; 3. How to transfer data (styles, registration memory etc) from previous PSR models (ie PSR S975). I guess that these tutorials will be very much appreciated by your subscribers. Best regards - Raducu from Romania

Love Yamaha pianos and this product. I own 3 of their full size keyboard products in my 3 homes, just because they sound so good. I hope they’ve improved their user’s manuals though. All I can do with my pianos is play. The first time I stuck a thumb drive into their usb port, it took 3 hours with the manual. In the manual, their explanation for how to record to the drive, took me to 8 different parts of the printed manual. By the time I was done, I had forgotten the first few sections they took me to so had to reread them. I finally gave up. That was 10 years ago. I’m just mentioning this to you in case they are still that poorly written. If you know, give me a quick answer. If not, I will have to drive the 20 miles from my home in Los Angeles to their U.S. music headquarters in Buena Park, California. If I don’t hear back from you by then, I’ll report back to this channel on how my visit went. Thanks for the very useful demo of the PSR - SX920 !

I picked up my PSR SX 920 today and slowly learning it's many features. I am not much of a keyboard player, and primarily bought this for it's MIDI capabilities. I need to learn how to play and record my MIDI songs on the SX920 with its accompaniments. I don't know if I can sinc them, but will try. Hopefully, you can offer a future video on that topic

    Tyros 4: 15 SA2 164 SA
    Genos 2: 106 SA2 437 SA
    SX920: 12 SA2 340 SA
    SX720: 252 SA
    2028
    Genos 3: 166 SA2 580 SA
    2029
    SX940: 36 SA2 420 SA
    SX740: (12 SA2) 340 SA
The problem is that the overall quality of sounds (Tyros 5, Montage 1+M, Genos 1+2, PSR-SX) is already very good, so we now have to applaud marginal improvements in new models.

Thanks Chris for a great overview of the PSR-SX920. I have the Genos 2, so it's unlikely that I will change, but I wonder if Yamaha might incorporate some of the new features in the SX-920 into a Firmware update for the Genos 2. Much as they did for Genos 1 when the SX-900 was introduced.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you for your kind comment! It’s great to hear you’re enjoying your Genos 2-it’s such a powerful keyboard, so I completely understand why you wouldn’t want to switch.
Regarding Yamaha incorporating features from the PSR-SX920 into a firmware update for the Genos 2, there’s definitely a possibility. For example, the PSR-SX900 was launched in 2019, two years after the original Genos in 2017, and introduced features like the Chord Looper. Yamaha later added that feature to the Genos with the large Version 2.0 update, which shows their commitment to enhancing their flagship models over time.
It’s great how Yamaha uses models like the PSR-SX series as a platform to showcase their latest tech a couple of years after launching flagship models, so there’s always hope we might see similar updates for the Genos 2.
Thanks again for your comment, and happy playing!

Now this is "the very best, wonderful, incredible", putting all previous models to shame. But then, in few years, another "very best" keyboard will arrive. And so on... The PLAYER is the important link. Look for great players, they sound AWESOME on a TYROS, or a Genos 1 or any kind of lesser keyboards. Don't be fooled by the companies wanting you to spend your cash, get a used previous generation "unloved" unit, learn to play, and enjoy it for less money!. Invest on piano classes rather than on new hardware. I tell this from experience: I play keys on a band for some years and, trust me, the PLAYER is 90%, the keyboard is 10% of what you transmit to the audience. IMHO, of course

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I completely agree that the player is the most crucial part of making great music. Skill and talent will always shine through, no matter the instrument. That being said, it’s also a fact that technology, especially in digital keyboards like these, continues to evolve. Companies like Yamaha invest heavily in research and development, and many of the updates and refinements come directly from customer feedback, which is brilliant because it shows they're really paying attention to what musicians actually need.
While it’s true that new models are released regularly, I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s purely about getting people to spend money. There are passionate individuals behind these projects-real enthusiasts who genuinely care about creating something special for players. Of course, if you're satisfied with your current model, it makes perfect sense to wait a few product cycles before upgrading. At the end of the day, it’s all about enjoying your music and finding what works best for you. Thanks again for your input-it’s always great to hear from fellow musicians!

On ePianos website they list the PSR-SX720 and tell us it has 1,377 Voices + 56 Drum/SFX Kits + 480 XG Voices incl. 9 Super Articulation+ & 252 Super Articulation Voices. And elsewhere Yamaha say it also has 55 OrganFlutes, 54 MegaVoices.
Interestingly the older PSR-SX900 specs say that it has 1,337 Voices + 56 Drum/SFX Kits 252 S.Art!, 54 Mega Voices, 31 Sweet! Voices, 87 Cool! Voices, 131 Live! Voices, 24 Organ Flutes!
So it is hardly accidental that both have 1,377 voices of which both have 56 Drum/SX Kits, both have 252 Super Articulation voices and both have 54 MegaVoices.
I know this is a PSR-SX920 video but there are not so many PSX-SX720 videos around at the moment to comment upon.
Most folk are interested in both new models, I am.
The point is that I have noticed Yamaha have literally slotted in some of the features of the PSR-SX900 directly in to the new PSR-SX720. Mainly some of the voices and the expansion voice capacity, up from the PSR-SX700's lowly 400MB up to the new PSR-SX720's 1GB which is what the PSR-SX900 is.
    -----------------------------------------------
So it could be seen in a way that the PSR-SX700 is not so much updating to the new PSR-SX720 but is instead updating to a PSR-SX900, though without some of the other more advanced features & functions of a PSR-SX900 that do set it apart.
The new PSR-SX720 is now far more closer to a PSR-SX900 than the PSR-SX700 ever was, though for our benefit it is at PSR-SX720 prices.
Which currently is $1600/£1249, something even the older new in a box PSR-SX900 never was near that price, though maybe similar in price these days to a used version.
The PSR-SX720 is by far better VFM, better bang for your Buck.
If the PSR-SX920 had been upgraded with an After-Touch keyboard, as many consider it should have, then it might then be worth the asking price for it.
A PSR-SX600 replacement model or the PSR-SX720 would be good enough for me.
Even a PSR-E473 replacement model would.
It is all about getting the 'right' one isn't it.
The PSR-SX920 by way of its overly expensive price rules it out. Costing less than 30% of its retail price to manufacture it in the first place.
I just could not bring myself to pay the asking price and feel taken for a mug.
    ----------------------------------------------
Anyway, I do say well done to Yamaha in bringing these new arranger models out.
Now it is best other manufacturers update their existing range of arranger models and bring out completely new models as well.
Korg need to update their utterly Ancient models. Casio need to really step up in to the $800 to $2000 price arranger models. Roland has but a few arranger keyboards and they are old as the hills. The BK-5 is around 12 years old!.
Then if they do this we will get some real competition and competitive pricing.
Currently Yamaha must have the highest share of the market in this arranger area, (then maybe Korg), so Yamaha do take advantage of us price wise.
If the others take a bigger slice of it Yamaha may have to lower their prices.
    So better for us.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed comment! You’ve raised some excellent points about the new PSR-SX models, and I completely understand your perspective.
It’s clear Yamaha has brought some of the features from the PSR-SX900 into the PSR-SX720, especially when you look at the voice count and expansion capabilities. With the PSR-SX720 now offering 1GB of expansion memory-up from the PSR-SX700’s 400MB-it’s much closer to the PSR-SX900, but still at a more affordable price point. As you pointed out, this gives a lot of value for money, making it an appealing option for many.
I also agree that aftertouch on the PSR-SX920 would have been a welcome addition, especially for those looking for more expressive playing. Yamaha has reserved this feature for higher-end models like the Genos, but it could have made the PSR-SX920 even more compelling, given its price range.
For anyone reading this, I’d definitely recommend considering the value in a used PSR-SX900 or PSR-SX700 as well. We usually have a selection of high-quality pre-owned models available on our website, and even used Yamaha Genos 1 keyboards can be found at fantastic prices-sometimes not too far off from the current price of a new PSR-SX920. It’s worth exploring these options to find the perfect model that meets your needs and budget.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, and I’m sure your insight will help others in their search for the right keyboard. Happy searching, and I hope you find the one that suits you best!

920 has CFX, C7, U1 and U3 piano voices. And Super Articulation 2. The 720 inherits almost all voices from Tyros 5 and some from the Genos. Whereas the 920 inherits almost all the voices from Genos 1 and some from Genos 2. I think for me you can't go wrong with those two, especially if you have the money. On the other hand, I think Yamaha should reconsider the PSRE keyboards. They almost never improve that line and they always keep re-releasing their same trashbox with another number model. I think they want people to spend 1000$< for something that can be done cheaply on a PSRE. Not everyone lives on a rich country like US/UK, we can't even afford iPhones here. While the SX are getting Genos voices, Yamaha really should put old PSRS/Tyros voices in the upcoming 483. They should make their PSRE decent people or will not going to buy it. Roland's Go Keys 3/5 have better sounds from their old flagships, A to D style controls and even a vocoder which the 720 does not have. And its only under 500$. I own an EW425, and I have heard the 383 it has better drums (sounds like SX700) and electric guitars and that's it. Too many voices are still total garbage and muffled. Now I would like to see an 483 with the body of E383 with more better non-crippled voices from PSRS, styles and features. That is the least they can do.

    Genos 1 po> Tyros 5 po > SX900 po> SX920 new> Tyros 4 po> SX720 new> SX600 (bc of ai) po/new> SX700 po

Thank you for your comment! The PSR-SX920 certainly comes with a lot of advanced features, and while it might seem as technical as flying an Airbus A380, I promise it’s easier than it looks! Yamaha’s kept the interface intuitive, similar to the PSR-SX700 and PSR-SX900, with a touchscreen and easy-to-navigate menus.
As far as I can tell after double-checking the manual, there’s no button to contact air traffic control! 😄 Once you get the hang of it, features like the Style Section Reset and Playlist functions really streamline your playing experience.
Thanks again for watching, and enjoy exploring all the amazing features of this instrument! Happy playing!

Except for more DSPs, more memory and the additional buttons on the surface. But even then I highly doubt that they release a new model and then freely upgrade the old models to the new stuff. After all, what you're really buying is voices and styles packaged into a piece of hardware.

Thank you for your comment! I appreciate your thoughts on the PSR-SX920. While it might seem a bit larger compared to more portable keyboards, it’s designed to offer a lot of functionality and power for both home and stage use. Many musicians have successfully used models like the PSR-SX900 and even the Genos for live performances, as they offer a wealth of features, high-quality sounds, and great flexibility.
Regarding the audio drum bug you mentioned, Yamaha has been continually improving their models and addressing any issues through firmware updates. They’ve released updates for the Genos and PSR-SX series in the past, and it's always worth keeping an eye out for any future fixes or enhancements they might bring to the PSR-SX920. Hopefully, they will address your concerns in the latest releases.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, and I hope the PSR-SX920 meets your expectations for both home and live use! Happy playing!

@@ePianoscouk I understand that you have to do your job but these bugs, in addition to making the AudioPhraser software useless, are present from many previous models. I contacted R&D personally to report this and unfortunately it was not resolved. The engine of the Yamaha arranger is extremely reliable and the internal timing is perfect. Unfortunately, the algorithm alone is not really updated except for some defects already present in other models. The whole PSR series is not portable as well as Genos 1/2 and I have also opened them, the design is old, not for Live but rather for a living room at home. this is also understandable considering that live music is practically dead.
Having said that PSR920 & Co. would have been truly new projects if they had implemented USB3 with the possibility of AudioStream from USB. I would have scored another if they had solved some audioDrums that didn't skip at the end of the bar but only at the end of the loop. In short, all the functions that Live musicians like me have been waiting for for some time

Thank you for your feedback, and I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video!
You're absolutely right-stereo sound really makes a huge difference, especially when showcasing a keyboard like the PSR-SX920, which has such detailed DSP effects and expansive sound quality. Yamaha’s arrangers, from the PSR-SX700 to the Genos series, really shine when you can hear the full stereo imaging, especially with the high-quality effects and multi-layered voices.
I’ll certainly keep this in mind for future demos to ensure the audio does justice to the instrument’s capabilities. Thanks again for your comment, and I hope you enjoyed the video otherwise! Happy playing!
