The style dynamics are a bit more than just velocity (which would be just volume), but the depth of sound (from those many samples of each instrument) is adjusted. Not sure how much use the smart chords are, but I guess useful on a 61 key format instrument, so you can shift the left/right split down to give more right hand space. You noted the Genos 2 wasn't very good with seamless transitions, but haven't commented on it for the SX920 - is it the same? You seem a lot more upbeat about the SX920 than you were about the Genos 2 - I'm not sure if you expected more from the Genos 2?
no sst here either! i feel at the price of the genos2 we can have much higher expectations... so prepared to give the sx a pass. although i have not shared any opinions yet, this was more of an informational demo, review to come!
@@WoodyPianoShack in which case, the "baby Genos" moniker is likely to really stick to the SX920. In saying that, it comes too late for me to have any real interest as I decided to upgrade from the EW400 I'd been playing for 6 years, bypass the SX700/900, and jump straight to the G2 - a move I don't regret - other keyboards might do some things better, but I was already invested in the Yamaha ecosystem, so it made sense to me. Also because of the 76 key format (going back to 61 keys would have been annoying, even if I tried to fool myself that it would be okay). Anyway, the SX920 is a welcome refresh to the range for those that don't own a forklift truck to transport a G2 to gigs (so heavy - possibly my major complaint about the G2)
Nice played Woody, I like the song you played at 23:15 to 24:26, unfortunately I don't know the name of the song. You're a good keyboard player. I really enjoyed your videos. I've SX 900, I'm practicing alot to play just like you.

Question: Did Yamaha skip the USB Audio-Interface on the new models? In the manuals they only speak about USB-Midi-Interface on the 720 and 920. The SX600 had an midi AND audio-interface via USB (as your DGX 670 i think?) Would be a real bummer if Yamaha would not have included this feature on their higher prices models as it is a real selling point for me (to hear audio from my iPhone oder iPad over the speakers or headphones of the instruments for rehearsals). Any answer from yamaha?
only genos2 got the usb audio interface, missing here, very sadly, but the idea is that you use the onboard wav recorder, yamaha tell me, and it actually works pretty good.
@@WoodyPianoShack Hi Woody, thanks for your quick response (and all of your very entertaining content - you have the same childish joy playing these instruments then myself!) 🙂Only for recording i totally understand where Yamaha is coming from but i am using the audio interface (of my YC73 and MODX6+) for rehearsals, matching sounds and sometimes for playing iPad or Mainstage Sounds through the outputs of my keys which is super easy. Honestly i wouldn't buy a key without an usb audio interface if there is an alternative. For this reason (and the cheaper price) i honestly would prefer the SX600 or DGX670. In fact even the GoKeys 5 has it (and a lot of other cool features for under 500 EUR as you know because you mentioned it in this legendary video about the secret key from Roland ;-)) Cheers to Sweden from Germany 🤗
I have noticed on lot’s of your video’s that with your left hand when you play chords you slide your hands to find your keys… I’m learning Piano as we speak…is this a technic that you’ve learned …or is it your way that you found that works for you…BTW I want to buy one sx920 from canada (upgrating from psr-sx700) is there a link from your site that I could click on so you make some money ? have a great day! I love the All that she want’s is a little Popcorn song 😂
hi and thanks for thinking of that, no i don't have affiliate links. good luck and enjoy if you get one! don't know what is going on with my left hand, that sounds a bit weird and probably not great technique. but usually you want to be efficient in motion and that means not moving hand too far away from keys. might be why i am sliding around.
Forgive me if I am wrong, but I thought I heard that this works with software to export your recording to a score. If not, what external software does one need to create new styles?
there is some midi-2-style software available from yamaha. many daws will display midi data recorded from the psr as a score. in fact i think it can be done on the instrument itself and displayed on screen but probably quite primitive.
I really loved the way you take known songs and make them your own version, wouldn't mind some more of this. also, that childish smile :) The instrument is really good. I can't really afford the Genos so maybe this one will get an OK from the partner..?
go for it, and thanks for the nice comment. if genos is your dream, then maybe hunt around a bit for G1, which is still the superior instrument most would agree.
hi and thanks, split point i find i need to adjust depending on the song, then save as registration. been using "fingered bass" previously, but the yamaha demo guys convinced me to switch to left hand AI mode, don't recall the exact name. takes some practice but opens up lots of possibilities.
@@WoodyPianoShack Thanks for the quick reply, I've been using "Fingered on Bass" mode, and have struggled with "AI Fingered" mode. It changes the chord with almost every Melody note. I must be doing something wrong, but sounds like a good topic for another video.
@@JerryKolata Actually the "AI full keyboard" (or "full keyboard") mode is changing the chords while you are playing the melody. The "Fingered on bass" mode is always using the lower note that you are playing with your left hand as the bass note of the chord. The "AI fingered" mode on the other hand, doesn't use the lower note that you are playing as the bass note, but instead it is using as bass note the root note of the chord so it sounds more let's say a "steady" chord. This is also very useful for players (like myself) that we use inversions of the chords and this way for most of the chords we usually need just one octave and except from some "weird" chords, we don't really need to change the default split point. I have a really bad left hand so this way it helps me not to make big movements around the left keybed. You can always record your playing(as a midi) and then watch on your screen what notes every part of the style is actually playing while you are changing the chords in a different mode.
Hey Woody can i ask your advice , I have korg triton extreme and flight case , i am tired of how heavy it all is . I was considering selling and buying a korg krome and bag instead .... What are your thoughts on this ? Would it be a downgrade ? I have heard krome keybed action is bad , but i am tempted by light weight , nice screen , nice sounds .... Mainly a guitarist , playing keys only few years , forgive my ignorance !
no problem! triton was the ultimate flagship at the time, so quality and feel will be inferior on the krome. probably the krome would do ok soundwise in comparison. if you having to transport it. then yeah, I get it maybe check out new juno-d, yamaha modx as well.
Okay Woody, a suggestion. See if Korg will send you a PA1000 and do a comparison between the SX920 and the PA1000. Since the PA1000 is a couple of years old (it's the 'baby brother of the PA4X) the SX-920 should be better. The price here in the U.S. for the PA1000 is a couple of hundred dollars more. I'd like to see both of them together. Oh yeah, Genos 2, PA5X, SX-920, DGX-670 . . . are you ready to go 'One-Man Band' for playing out? LOL!!!!
Hi gary, thanks for the suggest... the PA is more than a few years old I think...? in that case, maybe not such a hot topic to make a video about tbh, might be a lot of work for little interest?
@@WoodyPianoShack I will grant you that it's just over seven years old, being released on September 1, 2017. However, it is still active in Korg's line up and basically holds the same place as the SX-920 in the line ups. The Genos 2, being the top of the line for Yamaha only has a 76 key version, whereas the PA5X, as you are aware, has 61, 76, and 88 key versions. But, as you move down the line, the next keyboards are the SX-920 and the PA1000, respectively for Yamaha and Korg. As to 'little interest', that might be true, but both keyboards are under $3,000 USD versus closer to $5,000 for the top of the line keyboards. Anyway, it was a suggestion, and if you don't feel it's worth it, I understand.
I came to know that there is some sustain fadeout issue while trying to off the sustain button/pedal on hold. Will it be resolved by a firmware update?. I was planning to buy one, but now i am sceptical
If it happens to you, make sure you are using a compatible pedal and try a factory reset as well. Some folks have issues with sustain pedals with other keyboards, and often due to using a wrong pedal.
How does Super Articulation+ differ from MegaVoices? It seems like maybe the same technology but designed for keyboard players rather than MIDI data writers?
Can you make a video on how these keyboards are actually controlled? I see you are mostly playing the solos, but how does what you are playing influence the arrangement? (It seems the instrument is basically playing "itself", something I find very confusing).
@@WoodyPianoShack Yes what I can't figure out is what to play myself, and what to leave to the instrument, if that makes sense.. (I do not own one of these, so I have not been able to "figure it out by myself".)
I would like to see how can you arrange music with it. From beginning to end. Not just using predefined styles, but create accompaniment and melody or main theme.
Woody next time please do some Organ Song samples in this SX 920.Your viewers will love to hear nice Organ and EP patches which are the main uses in the Band.I am planning to buy this Model, thank you.

i would not worry about the differences, now you have made your choice, just enjoy it for what it is! there will always be better and newer models, just learn to get best out of what you have, 700 is still great :)
As i the sounds of super articulation 2 sounds hear white the sax its the same on the korg PA 700, 1000 and 4X keyboards also the assignable knops for the effects, the PA700 has more sounds than the 920 and sounds great and kost less,, the PA 1000 has aftertouch and the 1 finger accord you can fined on different keyboards also on the korg PA and more, but the 920 sounds oke and great styles too ........
2.500 € - (still) no aftertouch and no usb audio interface ( even a mx has one😮) so i hope that korg will bring up a new midclass arranger... Probably when i'm 64😢
@@cinepost it’s really hard to compare everything since they updated everything. Under the hood, it is now a Genos 1. But there’s also content from the Genos 2. All the one touch settings are reminding me on my Genos 2. Of course it is still not a top model. And there will be a lot more content coming with the Yamaha expansion Explorer and an arranger workstation is about content so this is really a huge generation. This is the main reason why I would choose one of the newer keyboards instead of buying an old one. You could also think buying a secondhand Genos 1. But there is a lot of stuff to sweeten the deal to get a SX 920 instead.

I've SX 900, I'm practicing alot to play just like you.
i refuse to rewatch my published vids, after spending so much time editing and watching myself, it's a case of never again! somebody else will chime-in I am sure ::)
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Lodi
Forgot to ask you Woody, are these sounds as they come in the keyboard or have you enhanced anything? Thank you.
straight out of the factory sounds
Thank you Woody for reply, i ask because i am going to have this keyboard. I enjoyed your video in Germany too, good photo of you and Leigh together another favourite of mine.Have a good week thanks again. Pat. 🎼🎼🎼
I really loved the way you take known songs and make them your own version, wouldn't mind some more of this. also, that childish smile :)
The instrument is really good. I can't really afford the Genos so maybe this one will get an OK from the partner..?
go for it, and thanks for the nice comment. if genos is your dream, then maybe hunt around a bit for G1, which is still the superior instrument most would agree.
Great demo, Woody! Curious as to which Fingering mode do you use? Do you keep the default split point? Thanks, Jerry
hi and thanks, split point i find i need to adjust depending on the song, then save as registration. been using "fingered bass" previously, but the yamaha demo guys convinced me to switch to left hand AI mode, don't recall the exact name. takes some practice but opens up lots of possibilities.
Thanks woody. Is this keyboard to be about 2 grand in £'s ??
yep
Dear Woody, I heard 900 series had a vocoder, I will be pleased beyond if you'll test that functionality on sx920
not sure if it does vocoder, but definitely vocal harmonizer but no plans to demo that in the near future
Ohh!!!!.... FLETCH IS SMILING HI RIGHT NOW!!!!! BRILLIANT!!!😎
I was planning to buy one, but now i am sceptical
no issues encountered by me in my casual playing so far, so i would not worry about that.
If it happens to you, make sure you are using a compatible pedal and try a factory reset as well.
Some folks have issues with sustain pedals with other keyboards, and often due to using a wrong pedal.
Definitely got a job at the Blackpool grand hotel bar after this Woody 😂
All right...im convinced...I want one for christmas...anybody?
How does Super Articulation+ differ from MegaVoices? It seems like maybe the same technology but designed for keyboard players rather than MIDI data writers?
i think you maybe summed it up very well yourself there,
Can you make a video on how these keyboards are actually controlled? I see you are mostly playing the solos, but how does what you are playing influence the arrangement? (It seems the instrument is basically playing "itself", something I find very confusing).
yeah, i understand it can look confusing, and that's a good idea
@@WoodyPianoShack Yes what I can't figure out is what to play myself, and what to leave to the instrument, if that makes sense.. (I do not own one of these, so I have not been able to "figure it out by myself".)
@@hallvardpaulsenrent one!

I would like to see how can you arrange music with it. From beginning to end. Not just using predefined styles, but create accompaniment and melody or main theme.
this is difficult, you need to make your own style, hard with that small screen. its an arranger , not a workstation.
It's the same old hardware with some new sounds...?
yeah, I think same hardware, new sounds and features.
How can I bring up my settings on my usb somehow it's not showing up at all.Hope you can help.
too niche for me to answer here, i am not tech support, sorry! try asking on a forum perhaps.
8:30 Mary's Prayer!!! Awesome 😎
My psr e-443 are jealous with that new features 😂
Woody next time please do some Organ Song samples in this SX 920.Your viewers will love to hear nice Organ and EP patches which are the main uses in the Band.I am planning to buy this Model, thank you.
ok, will try and keep that in mind! organ and EP not the strong point perhaps, at least compared to stage keyboards.
I love your enthusiasm ❤ . Not sure about that thing for me 😂
Is the keybed same as sx900? How different or same is the keybed? I guess its the same. Please let me know.
must be same, otherwise yamaha would have said it was upgraded or improved.
@@WoodyPianoShack it needed improvement for sure. Sx 900 made clacking sound after 6 months and one of the key of the fourth octave of white keys got broken, had to use hot glue to solve the problem.
Hejsan jag har beställt en sx700 min fråga till dig hur mycket tror du jag förlorar på att köra en 700 istället för en 720 ?fick den princip 3000spänn billigare en 720in och det är en uppgradering från min PSR s750
i would not worry about the differences, now you have made your choice, just enjoy it for what it is! there will always be better and newer models, just learn to get best out of what you have, 700 is still great :)
thank you for the review; kindly review the VH with a female singer or your voice either way we would really appreciate it
and thank you for the suggest! will you please send over a female singer, that would be highly appreciated by me!
Still waiting for mine to arrive, please can you demo acoustic and rock guitars
you are in luck, we do a few! congrats on yours :)
Does it half bar eg 2/4 function?
that rings a bell, but not sure, maybe someone will chime in
Life is tasteless without a passion.
really throwing me, what's that 1st tune...I think by Depeche Mode
Is it worth upgrading from the SX900? 🤔
i can't say it it is worth it FOR YOU!!! but hope the vid helps you to decide. also could consider an upgrade to used genos1 as an option.
As i the sounds of super articulation 2 sounds hear white the sax its the same on the korg PA 700, 1000 and 4X keyboards
also the assignable knops for the effects, the PA700 has more sounds than the 920 and sounds great and kost less,, the PA 1000 has aftertouch
and the 1 finger accord you can fined on different keyboards also on the korg PA and more, but the 920 sounds oke and great styles too ........
2.500 € - (still) no aftertouch and no usb audio interface ( even a mx has one😮) so i hope that korg will bring up a new midclass arranger... Probably when i'm 64😢
No USB audio is certainly odd for the price.

@@cinepost yes. I have a music school and will create some small TH-cam Videos as well.
@@Aikkiang the Sx900 to SX920 demo showed an obvious improvement!
But there is a lot of stuff to sweeten the deal to get a SX 920 instead.
hi.. bought the sx 920, but cannot install all the free expansion packs that my old sx 900 had, tried with the YEM also but not working
I doubt the 900 packs will work as they are instrument specific

Perfect professionally performances , the disadvantage of the chord loper, is very, very poorly outdated if you compare with the KORG PA5X very advanced chordsequenser, you know why.
yes, i got on slightly better with the korg chord looper, although i don't remember details. but yamaha is fine, i have been using it a lot for the last week or two
What disappoints me is that the PSR SX-920 should have an aftertouch-capable keyboard, a digital audio output and 256-voice polyphony for this price.

That’s game changer technology that Yamaha brings in arranger so you can download and install. You don’t have this cloud local expansion sounds technology installation in any brands in world and this expansion sounds on cloud of Yamaha is expanding everyday.I don’t know why middle class like sx-920 has 3 features like super articulation plus and some new styles and A-5000 expansion pack available for that all that features are not even available in genos 2 .
