    To my knowledge to run at memory speeds over above 2667 mhz, you require the machine to support some sort of XMP profile (like on desktop) machines. Maybe Dell had planned to included this in a bios update? But forgot about it? Or the worker who put in the memory put in a wrong module?
    Don't know if there exists laptops other than gaming laptop which has XMP profiles. Maybe the newer 11th gen Intel models do?

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its a choice by Dell - the 3501 is artificially limited to DDR4-2666 UNLESS it is equipped with an NVIDIA GPU, in which case it allows for DDR4-3200 operation (and gets a USB-C port as well). This is a Core i3-1115G4 equipped system, which officially supports DDR4-3200 and LPDDR4-4266.
      Most laptops won't use an XMP profile, but DDR4-3200 is a JEDEC standard and the module fitted complies with that.
      Basically Dell are using memory speed to give a performance difference between their similarly equipped Inspiron 3000 and 5000 laptops. I also have an Inspiron 13-5300 (i3-1115G4 with LPDDR4-4266) and Inspiron 14-5406 (i5-1135G7 with DDR4-3200 SO-DIMMs). In fact the modules I fitted to test DDR4-3200 operation are the exact same ones which operate at DDR4-3200 in my 14-5406.

      If you have a model with NVIDIA graphics it'll run the RAM at 3200. If not then it may have a 3200 module install, but will only run at 2666, so adding a 2666 would work.

    Hello @Bruce Computing;how is upgrading the Vostro 3501 RAM going to affect processing?
    Also,is a RAM upgrade enough to increase the processing speed of the Vostro 3501,or an SSD inclusion adds more?

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In terms of performance benefits, going from a HDD to an SSD is going to make a MUCH bigger difference than RAM, particularly in terms of startup time, application loading, etc.
      RAM can be worth doing at the same time, particularly if you have a single 8GB module or less, but SSD makes the big difference.
      Neither will affect CPU limited tasks however.

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clock speed will change almost constantly - under low loads it drops down to save power, when carrying out CPU intensive tasks it will go up to its base or turbo boost speed - the exact speed depending on the CPU model, number of cores active, temperature, etc.
