"Yknow a lot of people say this modpack is boring, or that it's not fun, or that it's tedious, or unnecessarily difficult, but that's really not the case, see I think-" perfectly-timed cave-in
After watching ep 1-2 I found a terrafirmagreg server off the TFC Reddit and settled a base in an open area. I went looking for clay and not 20 blocks from my front door was a 4 chunk sized deposit of kaolin, and every time I see it I thank the TFC gods for not giving me a 6 hour pilgrimage
3:50 Its funyy how hecuba gets the full gregtech experience going from "oh i must have made a mistake in calculations" to "nope i really need that much"
Hecuba, when doing mining, supports provide support to only the blocks 1 above it across the entire horizontal area. If you break that block, the blocks above them now become unsupported, and become eligible for caveins. Even if there's a huge gap above the supports, so long as you have the 1 block above the supports, a cave in won't break the supports you already placed down.
Yes, and no. Supports have a range of 9 x 5 x 9 centered on any horizontal beam, so if you are using standard three tall beams they will support until one block above the floor and always the two blocks above them. This is most easily seen when you use a gravity affected block like gravel to test the area. You can always, as long as you have a smooth, supported roof, mine a single block up, then shift the supports up to account for this. The issue is in situations where you have already had a collapse in the cave, and need to secure it for further mining. If your roof is jagged, the blocks higher up may not be supported, and there may not be the room for properly securing those blocks. A solution to that problem is to use other blocks to support them, rather than relying on the supports themselves. Blocks like logs, planks and hardened stones support the blocks above them. In other words, a SUPPORTED block SUPPORTS the block above it. Support beams themselves, horizontal or vertical, DO NOT count towards this kind of support, and an accidental collapse may target the blocks above a support beam, thus destroying the rest of the support of the area. Some blocks that you might encounter in a mine cannot trigger a collapse are dirt and gravel of any variety. Additionally, mining Smooth stones will never trigger a collapse, though the block itself can be collapsed & the process of creating it with a hammer and chisel counts as removing the block, and thus may trigger a collapse. Just to be sure it is cleanly communicated: TRIGGER collapse: 10% chance to scan an 11x5x11 block range around the mined block for blocks that may START collapse: a block that is not supported by a support beam or adequate block below it, it may then bring more blocks around it that CAN collapse: Stones, smooth stones, ores, cobblestone. Any block in a ??? range that may be included in a collapse, once it begins. Still got to test more on this part. Something interesting I found while testing this all out was that, for some reason, SUPPORTED SMOOTH STONE DOES NOT SUPPORT THE BLOCK ABOVE. I *only* found this because I was using smooth stone to measure distance (alternating colors and all that) and found that raw stone above smooth stone could start a collapse. I have no clue why this happens. Maybe it was some measure from the devs to stop people from just smoothing the roof of their mines rather than using support beams, it's weird.
Love your vids, Fun fact - you can make framed chests from just wood, which can hold any size items and are the same size as a normal chest You can also make a ceramic blowpipe and use it in your offhand for a unbreakable set of tongs
I’ll give some more insight on my mining method for your viewers! Horizontal supports will only provide support for blocks 1 block above it (you can verify with the TFC Support Indicator addon mod for Jade). This means that if you’ve already had a cave-in you’ll have to fill the holes in the ceiling above your supports with a non-gravity block like wood. Nearby unsupported caves will also screw with all the patience and brainpower dedicated to planning your supports. We’ve also adapted our method to expand the supports structure horizontally until we find the edge of the ore vein. Placing a non-gravity block 1 block below the ceiling and the supports on top of those. Then you can dig straight down into the ore vein with “almost no” concerns!
I LOVE playing this modpack with my gf. I am super familiar with TerraFirmaCraft and love any survival modpacks like RLCraft, and my gf knows how to play GregTech roughly and is a master with other tech mods. When trying to find a modpack to play together, we usually ran into the issue of "too much survival" vs "too much tech" leading to very few packs we'd be super invested in. Your videos popped into our recommened and we loved the idea! Currently working on getting our blast furnace in our world after the dangerous Kailon Clay haul
I started playing Terrafirmagreg out of sheer curiosity because of this little series. Thank you for what I'm sure will be yet another engaging video to watch!!
Seeing all the effort to get items that are super common in the default create mod feels super cursed. Like, normally you can get cogwheels before your first night when your playing with just the create mod and addons that don't change the base mod all that much, but here you have to do hours of work for a single cogwheel.
I love the usage of the calamity mod soundtrack It has a energetic and techy feel to it, which meshes well with the content and the creator's personality. plus Minecraft and terraria have always been bros, not to mention gregtech and calamity are popular mods for both so its super befitting. also im glad to see you enjoy doing this and its not just for views. I can't wait to see more
8:52 we found on our server that you can process rotten food and get fresh food or use it up in the process. Cutting rotten melon gives fresh melon slices. Grinding rotten wheat gives fresh grain. Throwing rotten flour in yeast starter still feeds the starter.
Hello! I just wanted to point out that at this stage you can probably just replace the bloomery with a mecanism that is much more efficient! (It's pretty simple you could probably make it in 40 mins and it saves you so much time and charcoal) You can first use the hammer to get Crushed Iron ore (You could also use a pick to get iron ore and then use the Macerator for a chance at getting more crushed iron (either from rich ore or normal raw ore, but u also have a chance at getting poor raw ore which translates to 5 iron nuggets) Then after that you can use a blast smelting mechanism from create (By getting a fan + water wheel + Lava) that gets to smelt all the iron crushed ores into cast iron ingots Now you might say that you can't use those to get wrought iron ingots, you'd be right, but you could turn all of those into Cast iron nuggets by means of the Alloy smelter (+Nugget mold), and then use the blast smelter to turn all those Cast iron nuggets into Wrought iron nuggets directly And then lastly you could use the alloy smelter with an ingot mold and boom, you got a 1:1 wrought iron ingot mechanism that doesn't need to use tedious anvil or bloomery.

I should be sleeping... but I'm here, in my computer, watching a space suit guy play the most nostalgic mod I know of with gregtech. And I'll keep doing this.
I love that the playthrough is on peaceful mode. Makes focusing on what’s going on and the actual gameplay way better and significantly more relaxing. Love this and hope you’ll continue ❤
The last two days I had been sick and suddenly discovered this series today, it was so good that I had to watch all three videos today already. Love your calm but funny way, explaining how the whole thing works along the way et cetera. Great videos, keep up the fantastic work! (Can't wait for episode 4 haha)
May God bless your channel. I really enjoy your commentary because it's much calmer than many of the others I've watched. Your also one of the only people who are creating an engaging series that doesn't follow the old let's play style.
video series inspired me to try out this modpack as i had been looking for something new and interesting to play. I can confidently say these have some of the most entertain 40 hours of gameplay ive ever had in minecraft
One final note, the steam powered furnace is amazing. It turns 1 dust or 1 normal ore into 1 ingot. It also turns rich ore (normally 40mB) into 2 ingots (288mB). For the poor ore you can put them in a forge hammer for like a 70% chance to get a dust (which can become an ingot). When we got ours we changed away from mining with hammers and stopped having any issues with raw metal supply (other than finding veins in the first place).
you inspired me to play tfg with your first video, it was my first tech-y modpack, now I'm starting to branch out into other modpacks like star technology. I'm currently also at the blast furnace, and I agree, this modpack is fun, and insanely interesting to me
Quick Create tip. If you power a small waterwheel in front of a big one, they'll both generate stress units but will move at the small waterwheel speed. It basically doubles the speed while giving you a high power output.
I just have to say this is my first time ever finding your channel like this series I've watched Both your last episodes in one day you just posted another one at midnight for I'm going to be watching it this is genuinely so interesting and you're doing such an amazing job at making videos of the series keep doing just the genuine great work❤❤❤
I've never been into technological modpacks before, mainly because most felt overwhelming to me. But watching you and Flurben play through terrafirmagreg while explaining the basics and general progression made me want to give it a shot ^^ Great video btw!
loving this playthrough so far and you've inspired me to take on terrafirmacraft with my own modpack! so excited to see more from you (mostly so i can figure out what i'm doing haha). hope to see more content from you hecuba!!!!
Dude your videos are so calm and easy to watch, it’s such a nice break from every other mcyter lately that focuses on being flashy and loud I love the change of pace
Same, easily #1 for me though. I could have never imagined that my old love TFC and my new love Greg could be married so beautifully AND that I'd be able to enjoy it without torturing myself
Small nerd moment: Pig Iron (also known as Crude Iron) is basically raw iron with too high of a carbon content (3.8-4.7% by weight) to be steel and many impurities, its name comes from the pink rust that quickly forms on its surface upon cooling down. High Carbon Steel, like the name says is steel with a high carbon content (0.3% to 1.7% by weight). Iron between 1.7% and 3.8% carbon by weight is called Cast Iron. Below 0.3% Carbon by weight you have mild or low-Carbon steel.
Some useful info about cave-ins when you mine a block even one in the radius of the support beams the game searches the area nearby in a decent radius for any blocks that are not supported. If it finds any it has a chance for a cave-in and when a cave-in starts even blocks in the support radius will fall (this makes continuing to mine in a place where there have already been cave-ins very difficult as the roof will be full of holes all of which need to be in the range of supports) also you should only mine one block above the support beam so that the block that the ceiling is made of is still in the radius of the beam thereby supporting all the blocks above and preventing a cave in. P.S. the range of the support is 9x9x5 centred on the horizontal beams
first the blast furnance then the boiler when i saw tge recipe for the mold i unironically talked with the screen and went like "why are you guys so expensive leave my guy alone"
As someone who sucks at tech based mods like create (or just mods in general😅) I’ve been using this series to learn how to do them effectively thanks for making these videos, I hope this series continues
That bridge is such a lovely little build! I love that most of the structure is actually necessary to keep it standing rather than just being decorative like in vanilla
Loving the series mate, bringing me back to my old feed the beast days as youngun I would have been all over this type of modpack then. I spent countless hours and days trying to research and make mods work together to try ans achieve realism like this, things have come so far. Also how your linking back to actual technologies, and inspired by channels like primitive technology, theyre so interesting aren't they, my fascination progressed to those types of content as i got older aswell. Makes you think how educational and useful these types of tech modpacks are, very effective learning tools for people like us with these types of interests for technology and how things work
I haven't watched the full thing (or have time to do so in one sitting right now) but I'm grateful that your tfg vid got recommended to me as I liked mods like this (quite similar to vintage story although I recently learned that that game is inspired by tfc lol) And while for some reason the modpack doesn't want to run on my pc, I decided to just add the mods manually without the compatibility with gregtech, so essentially I'm playing terrafrimacraft with gregtech sides, with minimal material compatibility such as most of overworld ores, I guess I'll start touching gregtech after I'm done with red steel bucket and into the nether lmao Thank you for guiding me through this awesome modpack, too bad I can't really play the full thing
@@Hecuba39 it occurred when forge is loading the mod, immediately crashed when it reached "loading bootstraps" text, I've read some forums and reddit, someone says its because some mods isn't compatible to others but I have no idea which one also wow such a fast reply lol
Late comment but I've been avoiding spoilers for your newest episode since I'm following along. You've introduced me to terrafirmagreg and I don't regret it. I've made my first batch of red/blue steel and recently grinding 5k+ materials, learning framed blocks to expand my steam factory to begin create. I'm also trying to upload my twitch Vods with segments of my grind covering hundreds of hours but want to make an edited playthrough one day once I've beaten TFC. Stressing out looking for saltpeter now atm.
Watching you cause the massive cave in at the start of the episode only to rediscover it like its some lost civilization by the end really shows just how much time and effort goes into this series and its so funny to me lols Decided to start playing the pack myself because of you with no TerrafirmaCraft or Gregtech experience, Your doing great work and I cant wait to see more!!
I'm loving the series and the content, watching this at work has me constantly excited for when I get home to get on and play some minecraft. Amazing work 👏🏽
when i was younger i watched a series in terrafirma from joserobrj, watching through your series today gave me such a good nostalgia sensation, i hope you continue with it
Absolutely loving this series so far! Glad you caught the algorithm's attention. Love the video format, but one small request I would make is to see a bit more of the building process on projects like the bridge. Maybe a time-lapse?
My man you did another awesome video, I hope you have a nice time recording your next vid whenever you get to it. Good day or night and God bless you my friend.
Yay, another part, keep the series going, its so entertaining to watch and got me into the pack because youre actually explaining how things work too. Amazing videos!
This is seriously the coolest Minecraft series I've ever watched. Your intelligence and editing make me feel like I'm watching a high-budget documentary
Watching this mode is one of the most entertaining stuff on youtube. Plus, your long format videos are amazing if i am being honest that 10-15 minute garbage is way too short to make anything good for a let's play. amazing stuff, keep it up mate.
This series scratches an itch I’ve had for so long, best series ever! I didn’t even know who you were before this but TH-cam recommended the first episode to me and now I’m hooked.
I have very little experience with modded TFC. (Honestly, when I have that itch I just play Vintage Story now a days) So to see you getting into steel in the third episode is actually wild to me. I'd say less than half my worlds even make it to steel, let alone get to it this fast. I just know this series is gonna get absolutely crazy.

Then after that you can use a blast smelting mechanism from create (By getting a fan + water wheel + Lava) that gets to smelt all the iron crushed ores into cast iron ingots
Now you might say that you can't use those to get wrought iron ingots, you'd be right, but you could turn all of those into Cast iron nuggets by means of the Alloy smelter (+Nugget mold), and then use the blast smelter to turn all those Cast iron nuggets into Wrought iron nuggets directly

I just have to say this is my first time ever finding your channel like this series I've watched Both your last episodes in one day you just posted another one at midnight for I'm going to be watching it this is genuinely so interesting and you're doing such an amazing job at making videos of the series keep doing just the genuine great work❤❤❤
I quite literally dropped everything to see this video! I’ve been anxiously waiting for this one!
Side note: how does one get their hands on Terrafirmagreg?
I've never been into technological modpacks before, mainly because most felt overwhelming to me. But watching you and Flurben play through terrafirmagreg while explaining the basics and general progression made me want to give it a shot ^^ Great video btw!
12:19 "its honestly really fun-- people think this mod pack is tedious" *immediately a cave in happens* lol. love your videos
loving this playthrough so far and you've inspired me to take on terrafirmacraft with my own modpack! so excited to see more from you (mostly so i can figure out what i'm doing haha). hope to see more content from you hecuba!!!!
Dude your videos are so calm and easy to watch, it’s such a nice break from every other mcyter lately that focuses on being flashy and loud I love the change of pace
I love the part when Hecuba said it's bloomin time and bloomed all over the place
I really like this Series, hope there's more at some point
This has become a highlight of my week whenever uploaded. I need more!
This is like top 3 minecraft series for me rn
keep it up
for me its top one but it would be top one still even if and hbm's ntm mod playthrough let's play came out and was actually good quality
Same, easily #1 for me though. I could have never imagined that my old love TFC and my new love Greg could be married so beautifully AND that I'd be able to enjoy it without torturing myself
Love how the building Music overlaps with the Block Placements, Great video :D
Small nerd moment: Pig Iron (also known as Crude Iron) is basically raw iron with too high of a carbon content (3.8-4.7% by weight) to be steel and many impurities, its name comes from the pink rust that quickly forms on its surface upon cooling down.
High Carbon Steel, like the name says is steel with a high carbon content (0.3% to 1.7% by weight).
Iron between 1.7% and 3.8% carbon by weight is called Cast Iron.
Below 0.3% Carbon by weight you have mild or low-Carbon steel.
I have a very loose understanding of the topic so thanks for more info
Or if your playing tinkers, it’s quite literally half pig half iron
This series got me to do a proper playthrough of TFC with a friend of mine and we've been having a blast with it, keep up the good work
I have no clue why, but god does this look enjoyably grindy to play.
The Calamity OST as always amazing and i like how you implement it
LETS GOOO I've been looking for this episode. (grabbing my snacks and drinks.)
forward*
Got my snacks! Too bad there's no Taxes in this series, but I'll make do!
I legit started TerraFirmaGreg cause of you. Now about to enter the Steam Age myself!
I was playing unturned and I was watching your video and when that creeper sound I actually flinched for half a second layer
Love the use of the Calamity Soundtrack man, truely peak music.
Probably my favorite MC series of this year
first the blast furnance then the boiler when i saw tge recipe for the mold i unironically talked with the screen and went like "why are you guys so expensive leave my guy alone"
boss asked me what i was doing tonight, accidentally instinctively said "watching part 3".
I then had to explain myself lol
As someone who sucks at tech based mods like create (or just mods in general😅) I’ve been using this series to learn how to do them effectively thanks for making these videos, I hope this series continues
That bridge is such a lovely little build! I love that most of the structure is actually necessary to keep it standing rather than just being decorative like in vanilla
Glad that you enjoy this, I hope to see many more of these videos.
I really like that you show us the grindy parts of the game sped up rather than jump cutting them. I like seeing all the work you put in!!
big fan of these videos, reminds me of the legendary EthosLab who does live commentary in his videos, this style of video is such a vibe!
Dude I love the use of the Calamity mod music, combined with the music mod extra's! They're such a good vibe with your videos!
Loving the series mate, bringing me back to my old feed the beast days as youngun
I would have been all over this type of modpack then. I spent countless hours and days trying to research and make mods work together to try ans achieve realism like this, things have come so far.
Also how your linking back to actual technologies, and inspired by channels like primitive technology, theyre so interesting aren't they, my fascination progressed to those types of content as i got older aswell. Makes you think how educational and useful these types of tech modpacks are, very effective learning tools for people like us with these types of interests for technology and how things work
I haven't watched the full thing (or have time to do so in one sitting right now) but I'm grateful that your tfg vid got recommended to me as I liked mods like this (quite similar to vintage story although I recently learned that that game is inspired by tfc lol)
And while for some reason the modpack doesn't want to run on my pc, I decided to just add the mods manually without the compatibility with gregtech, so essentially I'm playing terrafrimacraft with gregtech sides, with minimal material compatibility such as most of overworld ores, I guess I'll start touching gregtech after I'm done with red steel bucket and into the nether lmao
Thank you for guiding me through this awesome modpack, too bad I can't really play the full thing
if the error when starting is error code 1, I cant help you much but more RAM always helps
@@Hecuba39 it occurred when forge is loading the mod, immediately crashed when it reached "loading bootstraps" text, I've read some forums and reddit, someone says its because some mods isn't compatible to others but I have no idea which one
also wow such a fast reply lol
This is epic these are all coming out the day after I finish the last.😀
This content style is honestly so relaxing I love it
I knew about this pack from flerb (we like to give him nicknames) he's a really cool and funny guy! Love both of your videos! Keep it up!
Glad you are enjoying the ride, I found your channel randomly because of this pack and now I am just here
YAY ANOTHER HECUBA GEM DROPPED
Late comment but I've been avoiding spoilers for your newest episode since I'm following along. You've introduced me to terrafirmagreg and I don't regret it. I've made my first batch of red/blue steel and recently grinding 5k+ materials, learning framed blocks to expand my steam factory to begin create.
I'm also trying to upload my twitch Vods with segments of my grind covering hundreds of hours but want to make an edited playthrough one day once I've beaten TFC.
Stressing out looking for saltpeter now atm.
Watching you cause the massive cave in at the start of the episode only to rediscover it like its some lost civilization by the end really shows just how much time and effort goes into this series and its so funny to me lols
Decided to start playing the pack myself because of you with no TerrafirmaCraft or Gregtech experience, Your doing great work and I cant wait to see more!!
I'm loving the series and the content, watching this at work has me constantly excited for when I get home to get on and play some minecraft. Amazing work 👏🏽
you remind me of my closest friend when we play minecraft with our combined spectrums thank you for a refreshing series
haven't played or watch a minecraft video in a long time but I'm really enjoying this series. Looking forward to the next episode
when i was younger i watched a series in terrafirma from joserobrj, watching through your series today gave me such a good nostalgia sensation, i hope you continue with it
Absolutely loving this series so far! Glad you caught the algorithm's attention. Love the video format, but one small request I would make is to see a bit more of the building process on projects like the bridge. Maybe a time-lapse?
Been digging this so far, honestly might consider checking out the mod pack since it seems very in depth over all
I'm really having fun watching your play on it! I don't think I'll be playing this but for sure I'll be watching your entire run, take my sub dude
I love this series, i love the part where hecuba said "it's blooming time" and started blooming all over the place
Gosh making the world peaceful is def making the videos much more enjoyable
My man you did another awesome video, I hope you have a nice time recording your next vid whenever you get to it. Good day or night and God bless you my friend.
Yay, another part, keep the series going, its so entertaining to watch and got me into the pack because youre actually explaining how things work too. Amazing videos!
This is seriously the coolest Minecraft series I've ever watched. Your intelligence and editing make me feel like I'm watching a high-budget documentary
idk why I like these videos so much, they are just very very interesting. its been years since I have watched minecraft videos. Subbed :)
Watching this mode is one of the most entertaining stuff on youtube. Plus, your long format videos are amazing if i am being honest that 10-15 minute garbage is way too short to make anything good for a let's play. amazing stuff, keep it up mate.
great episode!
im too lazy to play the mod myself so im really enjoying your stuff
also great buildings , i love the bridge
This series scratches an itch I’ve had for so long, best series ever! I didn’t even know who you were before this but TH-cam recommended the first episode to me and now I’m hooked.
I have very little experience with modded TFC. (Honestly, when I have that itch I just play Vintage Story now a days) So to see you getting into steel in the third episode is actually wild to me. I'd say less than half my worlds even make it to steel, let alone get to it this fast. I just know this series is gonna get absolutely crazy.
