A long but interesting fun fact vlog between Germany and Malaysia on food, culture, religion etc.. I can see that there are quite a lot of differences. Good info given by you, Ken and special thanks to Su Min for her part in this talk show. Best regards to you both.
Yes; it’s very common for single Malaysian to stay with their family if they works in the same city. They’ll take responsibility of paying home expenses etc.
It's not about street food culture. It's all about Malaysia is a blessed land where food is available 24/7. Historically speaking, people from all around the world migrated to Malaysia to avoid hunger, famine and extreme poverty at their places. This is true even to this day. People who are aware of this situation often wonder why Malaysia, a small country with limited resources, seem to be able to offer enough for everybody. Endless opportunity. Endless love and tolerance. That's a blessing :)
Religion is so important in Malaysia that we include it in our Rukun Negara(National Principles) The first Principles is "Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan", meaning Believe in God(s). I put plural in 'God' because some religions have more than one god.
I love this content! Can't have enough! Ok to answer some of your questions: 1. It is common for single adult to live with their parents, usually to look after them. Sometimes married couple even live with their parents for the same reason. It is almost always expected for one of the children to stay with their parents or bring their parents live with them. 2. I got married at age 24, right after I finished my degree. I was one of the earliest amongst my friends. Keep it up Ken!
Hi dear Ken n Su Min this is a outstanding blog. I liked it before finish to watch. I have come to know so many cultural information about two nations. Hope in future we will know more from both of you. Keep it up 👍
Great vlog Ken. Hey I know it’s been said but you two do look great together. Keep her around awhile. You both bring up interesting topics. I’m a widower. Yup my other half wouldn’t take care of herself and caught up with her. That was 15 years ago. I’m 64 and waiting on KL and the rest of the world to get rid of the Covid-19 virus. My lady is there in KL and I’m going to bring her back with me. I was 17 when I left home and got married when I was 19. We dated for 13 years before we got married. She was my childhood sweetheart. Man I’d like to buy some food trucks and have them park at some places where people gather in Germany and feed them some nice hot meals. I love food trucks. Some of the best cook’s work in them. I went to culinary school so yes I cook for myself and friends. Seeing them enjoying your cooking is gratifying. Stay safe and healthy you two. 29 and not married yet . What’s the holdup? Lol. I think you found her !! #teamabroad
Freedom tu bukanya freedom sangat, cukai, bil elektik dan air, minyak, pergi kerja waktu pagi lepastu balik kerja waktu petang and repeat. Semata-mata nak dapat wang untuk hidup freedom.
I had currywurst (sausage with tomato ketchup) served in a paper tray with a plastic fork in Germany (I think Berlin or Munich, can't remember exactly where) from a food truck - it was about 20 years ago and seemed very popular but maybe mostly for tourists?
The close knit family culture is gradually diminishing....modern grandparents are living in the kampung...they don't like hustle and bustle of the cities. I really enjoyed the collaboration n the sincere discussions.
Germany Chicken chop plus french fries @ EU8 while in Malaysia Chicken with rice @ RM 8:00. too. It is just wrong to convert your currency to compare the prices. Say you are employed in Germany with a monthly salary of EU1,000 while a Malaysian drew a salary of RM 1,000. This comes to both of the prices are similar.
KEN falls in LOVE, but yes in INDIA also certainly marriage age is betwn 25-30 and people do get shocked once u cross that age bar that still u not married while others even have family & kids but afterall what the people want to do its on them - Some like to take time explore countries world meet new people

Muslim Malaysian normally marry at the younger age somewhere at the age of 18 to 25 years old If there’s few muslim malaysian married above the age of 26-30, it’s consider old for us Even my mother in law is married at the age of 12 years old and she has 13 children

Too me family is very important to me,Although 20+ year married,I still visit my parent every week one.we close to each other. Lot of my friends married European guys or girl too,is quite common at KL.
Culture is a very interesting topic. Each country has its own culture. In a country, different races, different religions, different background, different upbringing have their own culture n tradition.
This is the third longest video in this channel so far. (Dec 10 2020). 1st: Terengganu Cultural village (38mins). 2nd: Parit Jerman (35mins). 3rd: Dating Sue Min (33mins). We watched lots of actions in 1st and 2nd. We get lots of info about the differences of both worlds in the 3rd. (And Ken, we are totally okay with her!) 😆😆😆coz I am a proud Malaysian too.
Age for marriage depends on a few factors such as the education status, working in big city or smaller one, level of economy/salary etc. This is to broad to generalized.
Marriage age in Malaysia differs for men and women, races (malay, chinese n indian) and generations. I can say that since Im a Malay, we tend to get married early due to parents pressure, (its our nature to obey parents), prevention of sex outside religion and also the level of education etc. Whereas usually Chinese my age, 30 either just settling down now or not yet because they want to stabilize their income for family. Btw su min is really cute at the end where she compares the height! 😂
Nowadays mostly eat out. Just lazy to cook for one person meal. I learned to cook since young from my mom. So self cooking isn’t much of a problem. I do my own cooking during my university in UK too
Actually, about the hotel reception and praying times, the receptionist are not supposed to leave the reception empty at any times. That's why at some hotels they have two receptionist. One to back up another. If one need to go for a break, bathroom or pray, then there's another receptionist at the reception counter.
Yeah it's quite common for Malaysian singles to stay at parents' home if they don't get married. It's just economics.. If they do get married, it's also very common to have the parents take care of the grandkids. It's kinda rare to hire babysitters unless the parents are in another city/town.
Hi #TeamAbroad! This Asam Girl Sue Min is smart, friendly, and beautiful. She has lots of stories to tell as well!! Ken is being Ken as ever. Always with his charming smiles while having asam girls moments in his vlogs.
Honestly, I find Germany food one of the cheapest in Western Europe and almost similar to Italy. As you mentioned, proper chicken/pork chop ~ €8 to €10. The same food in Paris, Amsterdam will cost nothing below €20😅.
Living with parents is a choice, unless you're Malaysian. Even any race , if you're not married yet, they still saw you as a baby. Even you're adult or 30 or 40 years old . They still saw you as baby. Because we not always brought friends home, we always 'lepak' or 'ngeteh' (hang out) at any food stall. It not because we Malaysian not cook at home. Our parents also will get angry when you wanna eat outside but there's a lot of food at home. When you living with parents there's always full of food at home. Eat outside also not very frequently. But when your mom said today I'm lazy too cook, then we all one family will go eat outside. Dating among friends also very usual in Malaysia. Also there's a lot of mix couples among race. Me wanted to get married with foreigners but ... No chances maybe.
Religion is a way of life for most malaysian, family is part of it, without religion there a lack of connection which may cause such thing happened in germany. Because religion celebrates life and family/community bonding especially during festive season. Just my two cents.
I am your new subscriber. Love your contents. I am a frequent traveller to malacca. Love thier food and malaysians are very friendly folks. I am from Singapore.
#teamabroad..very interesting and knowledgeable video...I love eat and cook at home for healthy reason , I eat out for occasional, like celebrations or gatherings with friends.
Tq Su Min sharing n explaining our various cultures n beliefs to Ken. We too enjoyed Ken share a bit of his life . At least we know a little of their way of life in Germany. We usually cook our meals almost everyday but we also hv our lazy days not to cook, by ordering food online or hv our meals outside. Staying with parents is a norm here til they found their life partner n usually will move out once married.
the using-fork-for-rice thingy amuses me.. but i accept it. tiada masalah 👍🏻. though, personally, i feel that, using spoon for scooping up rice is more effective... 🤣
as for staying with parents, i moved out at the age of 17. the year i came to west malaysia (i am originally from sarawak) for my tertiary education. and i stayed put in west malaysia after i graduated, years ago. but i have friend my age (fyi, i am 46yo. 🤣), unmarried and staying with her parents.
I think the main purpose of spoon is still to use it for the soup and gravy. Given asians like to mix soup/gravy with rice while at the other hand westerners usually having the main dish and soup seperately.. Besides, like Sui Min mentioned, europeans prefer to use knife to cut the meats while eating, at the other hand, asian foods are usually cut before cooked or served, so there is no need to save the other hand for a knife. There is no use for the knife on soup or gravy. Hope this makes sense 🙂
@@hushy9695 🤣🤣🤣 really not necessary to explain it to me. i understand the reason behind the knife+fork and spoon+fork. i am merely amused and entertained. Because, for us, when we eat western cuisine, we will automatically use knife+fork with the help of spoon for soup. But when we eat rice-related meal, we will automatically use hand or spoon+fork (when rice is served in plate) or chopstick+spoon (when rice is served in bowl).
most malaysian love to assert we are proud of our multiculturalism, however do we really treasure or appreciate such diversity society is a big question mark. i suggest you invite guest from different background, get them sit together and having a nice chat, you might realise malaysian know very little about others. that said, perhaps keeping a distance could be the main reason we preserve a relatively peaceful life.
In my opinion on marriage age, usually it depends on the level of education. Some people finished their high school, got a job, could afford a family (especially for man) and then they'll get married. Their age to get marry between 18- 22. For other people who get marry after their tertiary education, their age may at 25-35yr old. There are also some people get marry during their study at the high institutions. I think in Malaysia it's common for a person to get married around 22-30 yr old. Me, myself get married after graduated and worked for few months, at 25yr old. My boyfriend then has worked for more than 1 year, at 27yr old. At the time, we think that we can afford to start a family and at the same time help our parents to support our younger siblings to finish their study.
Jobless around 2months after graduating made me moved from my parents house. My workplace was 600km from my hometown. Then I get married, we rent an apartment until we can afford to buy our own house. Of course during long holiday and festive seasons we went back to our kampung/hometown to visit our parents. But those are all memories. Our parents already passed away and now, my husband, kids & me lived thousands kilometres from Malaysia. Yeah, it's really nice to see you Ken, roaming around our home country. It brings back our best memories there. Thank you😁
This is a very different type of video of Ken_Abroad .... Different prospective...... Cultural exchange? Yup, I can relate to that streetfood & bazaar / night markets is an Asian thing.... Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, South Korea, Taiwan etc...... Yup.......Wow..... Boom.. Ken is half-Turkish and half -German.... OK , this is something new..... As usual, stay safe...
@@KenAbroad if there isn't this type of video today, we wouldn't know that you are half Turkish and half German. Haha...you "let the cat out of the bag" 😂😂👍
Religion should be a big part of every human's daily life. Humans are inherently faulty, so we need some sort of guidance and correction mechanism in our lives to keep us away from chaos.
about nobody at reception at praying time..i think u refer to the small hotel/rumah tumpangan with a small business...in proper hotel business they are not allow to leave the work station unless has somebody/staff to replace it for temporary...infact others business also you cannot leave your job especially when u are at front desk
I live in my own house more independent n comfortable.staying in my parent's house is the best choice too but since we are working and have our own financial it's better to stay outside.
*About Malaysian moving out, i mean moving quite permanently to have your own space and freedom it's more like "work" related on average... Or when they're married. For example, you live in Malacca but you work in KL, so it's better if you rent a room/house which is closer to where you work... And i think the culture about moving out when you turn 18 is quite shocking for Malaysian teen to handle especially they don't even have money yet and most of us still need our parents to pay for university fee unlike westerners, I've heard when you turn 18, you're on your own... Most Malaysian are more confident to live by themselves when they have a steady job and that's also up to individual. Some may want to take care of their parents, so they live together until they're married. Just my observation though...*
im 21 and in my final year of college, i wanted to get marry as soon as i start my job .. so i wanted to get marry early and plan my future together with my husband .. because i think its normal in malay culture if their daughter want to get marry early as long as they found a man who can take care of them (usually much older guy who have a stable incomes) .. this is only from my pov :D
Malaysian that married early mostly those don't further their studies. For those further their studies till ~ 23 to mid 20, mostly will ended up marry ~ late 20 to early 30's 😅
I think battling inflation is also a huge factor of the changing age gap for marriage now as well. Mentality is definitely changing especially for young urbanites about marriage.
Marriage age normally follows education levels and career. Generally once you finished studies then you’ll look for a job once you have a stable job then you get married. So the longer you further your studies the later you’ll get a job and get married. There are exceptions off course.

Asam boi with asam girl 💕🤭
Owh Yeahhhh!
Incidentally an "asam boi" is a dried prune. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
@@weeeee8232 somehow nice to hear your story hahahahaha
@@suet5351 hahahaha... I do have a slightly different lifestory compared to some.
Btw, I was married at 25.
I have only 1 boy, now only 10yo.
most malaysian love to assert we are proud of our multiculturalism, however do we really treasure or appreciate such diversity society is a big question mark. i suggest you invite guest from different background, get them sit together and having a nice chat, you might realise malaysian know very little about others. that said, perhaps keeping a distance could be the main reason we preserve a relatively peaceful life.
Ken will get married soon i think.. with asam girl from melaka 🙈😅
Yep different type of video today 😅 thanks! Greetings to johor ✌
19:20 after moving out at Age 18 -20 in Germany do parents still support their kids financially or they have to work for them self?
Yes many do as long as their kids are still in university for example
Great discussions.
about nobody at reception at praying time..i think u refer to the small hotel/rumah tumpangan with a small business...in proper hotel business they are not allow to leave the work station unless has somebody/staff to replace it for temporary...infact others business also you cannot leave your job especially when u are at front desk
I do agree.
In a nutshell. western culture teaches their children to be more independent.
Asian culture tends to teach them to defer to their elders.
you can consider make a video cooking germany and malaysia food with su min
I got married when I was 30. Just turned 38
Lol... I luv the fact everyone is shipping these two so hard. Here's hoping that one day Ken will make Malaysia his official second home... 😉😉
Interesting topics...would love to see Sui Min again in the next video... 😁
I believe there is street food in Germany they called German market selling different sausages or frankfurters.
Last week Ken wants to do a road trip... This week he decided to stay in Melaka a little bit longer.. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Roadtrip is starting Saturday 😅💪
Make sure you take her with you..
Ken is broken my heart 😅😅🤭🤭
@@alien6495 hahahaha
I thinks that is great idea ken take sue min with you...it well be the best roadtrip in your life ken🤭🤭...
I live in my own house more independent n comfortable.staying in my parent's house is the best choice too but since we are working and have our own financial it's better to stay outside.
Wow Ken you are great guy get a Malaysian girl you'll be happy all your life
*About Malaysian moving out, i mean moving quite permanently to have your own space and freedom it's more like "work" related on average...
Interesting topic 👍👍👍😍😍
Malaysian that married early mostly those don't further their studies. For those further their studies till ~ 23 to mid 20, mostly will ended up marry ~ late 20 to early 30's 😅
I got married at 34... 😊
tanhb, agree and it's true...those who married young are usually the ones who didn't go for further studies.
Interesting!
The asam boi and asam girl comments are so funny!
i guess for most single malaysian. we would pool for house rent. but if they can stay with family because its convenience we would do so.
Love it ken
ken found his asamgirl 😘
