Kaiba: I have all three legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragons, the most powerful monster in existence!
Card shop: Eh, you can have it for 360 dominos. Summoned Skull is 1160, though, we won't budge on that one
Back when Summoned Skull was new, it was way more desirable than Blue-Eyes in the actual game. So, it makes sense in this game.
@@SakuraAvalon yeah 2500 with 1 Tribute >>>> 3000 with 2 Tributes
Yeah Summoned skull is infinitely better than any 2 tribute or fusion in the game until way later
Jinzo is probably the best 1 tribute monster during that time. It’s a semi nuke.
I love Sacred Cards to death, partly because it's so goddamn easy to plow through. It's one of the few games I can beat in a single sitting and I find some sort of bizarre comfort in that. The enemies are way too weak, the rewards are way too generous, but I still love it.
It's one of the few games I have been able to 100% because of how easy it is. I played through a few times and noticed that there are duels and parts of the story that you can completely skip/miss though.
@bill lamook I've beaten Reshef on an Emulator (I honestly don't know if I could realistically waste that much time grinding irl) and it's pretty painful. It's got so much potential and cool stuff in it, but it's so overtuned in an attempt to be harder than Sacred Cards that it's not only really unfair with a lot of mechanics, but also completely disrespectful of players time.
Shame that the game hard ends after you get Ra.
@@andrewkos5560 I loved sacred cards and wanted to love reshef as well, but yeah it was just way too hard.
It's weirdly therapeutic. There's something satisfying about clearing through each opponent without having to think much.
Asprey, I dunno if you know but Bakura in the manga is a D&D fan, so it's not completely out of the blue :)
I saw season 0 so I knew the reference too
Bakura likes TRPG, he likes Fire Emblem lol
So just incase no one mentioned it: Bakura mentions Table Top RPGs because during his introduction in the manga, before card games ruled the world, the other Bakura basically had everyone play Dungeons and Dragons, which lead to them being turned into miniatures during the game.
Which is why when he duels Yugi in the anime, he turned everyone into their favorite card.
And just to hammer things in, with Bakura being the main antagonist of the final season, the entire Millennium World was a Table Top RPG .
Monster World Arc
My head canon is that after winning battle city the main character wanted a challenge so made up silly rules for the duelist adventure hence reeshaf
When Asprey still remembers the type advantages from Reshef:
*I'm still worthy!*
When you think of "Caveman Yu-Gi-Oh" this is exactly it. Big number, pokemon mechanics, and beatdown. That's it.
It truly was a horrible time to be alive.
@@Silver-Kaitou yh
@@Silver-Kaitou because of this game? Foolish boy/man. One game being bad by your opinion doesn't mean it was the worst time to be a live.
@@Silver-Kaitou You must've been old back then too
@@sO_RoNerY SC is... fine, I guess.
Caveman YGO is not.
9:21 Glad so see my favourite duelist in this game: Naruto.
A side note: Ritual Spells don't require the monster to be...uh... usable? Like. You can attack with Mask of Darkness, then tribute 2, and Mask of Shine and Dark can still make an attack.
I really liked "Great Value Kuriboh". That was a great chat input to describe Wretched Ghost of the Attic.
In the original manga bakura played table top games
There's a couple entrances or bonus scenes you miss if you're not looking out for them. I don't really know how you feel about stuff like this but I'll say my piece; I think of it more like easter eggs, trivia, and a warning or two more than spoilers, but, caveat legitor.
If you answered True to Espa he would've left the game entirely. Saying no keeps him around to grind against if you're a stupid child who needs to do that in this game, or you really want jinzo but can't use the code mechanics. I think you locked yourself out of rex.
Pretty sure you *can* duel the dog, and Tristan, and the dog is better than Tristan. There's no challenge in it though.
There's a few codes for just money and deck capacity, I think. The code system is poorly explained, but you unlock the card then buy it in the shop, I think.
There are a number of entrances/exits that aren't communicated well at all, you kind of have to feel the walls to find some areas where some characters end up or extra duelists are. Chief among these are the pier area around where the Yugi-Joey duel takes place. Some of these are obscure on purpose to hide bonus scenes, like where Mako ends up.
The scene where Mai fights off a stalker is there, but that event is a background event in this game, you have to find in the middle of the story late game, but before the final arc. You'll eventually get rewarded for it.
When you meet Ishizu, if you win against her but repeatedly lose to the duelist you fight next you can grind like 30 deck capacity at a time, because if you lose the second fight, you have to refight her. Pointless exploit frankly but if you mess around with codes you can use that as an excuse to give yourself infinite deck capacity/level/whatever if you like just socking people.
You can do shit like make sacrifices, then black hole, then summon still. Including for ritual spells.
The building contains references to other konami franchises, including the music.
Duel sim's for grinding and getting FGD
Petite moth's line works even though it doesn't look like it does. I don't think you even need cocoon. It also shows how pointless and annoying the scan in reshef is. They just added an anti-quality-of-life feature
You can only use Ra by letting it get summoned, beating it, and using monster reborn. It would be better to cheat it in if you want to play it.
Great breakdown I forgot some of these were a thing, you should make a Sacred Cards Iceberg sometime
1:50:25 I actually just found out about this: "Building" is the translation we got of "Casino".
Used to love this game when i was a kid. So much nostalgia. I miss those noises.
"Harpie's Feather Duster... Ha, Imagine that being legal one day."
...About that...
It’s limited.
I'm surprised you passed over ancient lamp when you saw it in the card shop. Card is busted, especially in late game when every duel has a dark field
47:25 That's not even a condition, that's one of the rules of the tournament!
I summon Dark Magician, but on one condition: I have to tribute two monsters.
I love this game, i used to play it all the time trying new decks and challenging myself. Good luck figuring out all of the hidden duels and gimmicks, though that does make it more fun
I bought this game for GBA at gamestop when thry still sold that era of games physically in the display cases for 15 dollars
Not to be confused with YuGiOh! The Sacred Chords, which is a Leonard Cohen crossover.
As someone who's played reshef but not this, this would be a lovely change of pace and has a more civilised difficulty
DAMN! I wasn't able to keep up with "Falsebound Kingdom" and I was counting on recovering it later, but here you are with another YuGiOh game series.
I am both extremely happy to see this and so sad because my sleeping routine is going to take a major hit to watch this.
15:25 Oof. Yeah, gotta love those early video game super-specific rituals...
I still find it funny that you can just challenge anyone in this game to a duel wether they play or not.
How Reshef came into being.
Gamers: The Sacred Cards is too easy!
Konami: Hold my -beer- milk!
Ah yes Reshef but easier and much better.
took the words out of my fingers
As someone who played Reshef, yeah, that game is really unfair. It takes forever just to get something decent. It would have probably been better if your deck capacity increased by more then 1 for most duels.
Reshef can be a bit better if you can play Multiplayer. (You need 2 carts, 2 GBAs, Etc.) You get 10 DC for each win that way.
Honestly i just finished the game 2 months ago and my main problem were the fucking horrible continuous effects and how they implemented them. Also it pissed me off that there is no post game free roam and the only thing you get for finishing the game is the stupid extra room and the chance to replay the ending. Also making the whole thing „harder“ by giving the ai stupidly broken tools instead of improving how it acts is pretty sad. Over all it was more frustrating than enjoyable and much worse than sacred cards which sadly was too easy on the other side.
Reshef was just so damn grindy.
1:10:29 Little fun fact: the game was translated into English by Nob Ogasawara, aka the one who translated the all of the first three generations of Pokémon into English, single-handedly.
When is forbidden memory for the ps1 that game is 100% epic
Sacrifice is Magic the Gathering terminology. Yugioh seems to dodge around magic terms, even ones not owned by wizards. Banish instead of exile, tribute instead of sacrifice, negate instead of counter, chain instead of stack etc. Wizards for whatever reason protects "tapping" so I guess it's to be on the safe side.
i mean... not quite.. the term counter is used for counter traps.. its just that a counter dosnt necesserly negates something if we just go by the word. as in.. a counter would only be used as a reaction to something, but not all negates are reactionary in their design.
also its interesting to read this, as in german the term used for "tribute" is "opfer" which is most commonly transalted as Sacrifice (well or victim but thats in a different context)
You play all of my favorite games or games from when I was a kid. This is just what I needed in my life at 3 am on a Saturday morning
Seeing the drastically censored cards in their true form catches me off-guard
Yeah...pretty sure this was an oversight. When this game and Reshef were released together as the Double Pack, the cards had their TGC artworks. (I played the Double Pack version as kid, and I never saw the OGC art)
I still have my copy of this game.
Pickle Pegasus. Aspreys worst nightmare.
I love this game. Made a pretty good Aqua Deck that got me to the end. Lots of multiplying creatures, spot removal and Umi. Pretty fun. Gives you much more variety than Reshef
the music is so relaxing man gives me chill vibes. Loved the cocky kaiba part too. Still remember the part when Kaiba says after 9 o clock I AM THE DUEL KING
ZUN did the same thing in a sense. People were saying that some of the Touhou games were easy so when 15 came around well he made it hard. Or should I say lunatic!
LoLK is so hard it's not enjoyable lol (WBaWC is really fun and a good challenge though, HSiFS is okay good OST though)
"Good morning Asprey. Have you made your deck? >:( " says yugi
41:15 "Imagine that being legal one day"
lol
Lmaoooo I actually own a card shop and that remark he made was what bought me to the comments
Yep, we can tell when he recorded this, haha.
If i recall Harpy's Feather Duster DID become legal again and is not banned!! It was pretty recent too
Sweet Asprey is playing the only Yugioh game I ever beat as a kid!
I never beat it, I suck at strategy.
@@asra-5180 I do too to a degree but at least I was able to beat this as a child.
I remember lol, kid me discovered that rng seeds existed because I would try the same duel over and over and eventually I would find that the duels would follow the same trajectory several times. Cards drawn, enemy moves.
Same dude. 2003 was a good year
i reallyyy wish they made a game in this style that was somewhere in the middle of sacred cards and reshef as far as difficulty is concerned
Bakura is actually a big tabeltop RPG fan in the manga. That's why he says that.
I played the hell out of this when I was a kid
I remember playing that as a kid and missed on the first playthrough all the signature cards because I always set a low level ante monster
Isn't Grandpa's shop a toy shop in season 0 actually? Would be funny they decided to reference S0 instead of, like, everything that came after that tho
yes, in the manga it's also simply a shop where you can buy various games, like tabletop games, tcgs, jigsaw puzzles, gacha figures and other stuff like that.
I forgot about this game, holy crap! I used to play this religiously after my neighbor gave it to me since he wasn’t into video games anymore. I wish I could find it.
I remember playing this game as a kid when I visited my brother and still knew nothing about YGO, good times
July 4th 2002 is my birthday, this game is exactly as old as I am, that's kinda cool
I remember playing this as at 10, I spent so many hours just spam dueling Triston to raise my level so I could buy all anime cards. Really fun game.
Now, there is something scatchy when you can enter a graveyard through a back alley way.
Oh yeah, this game. Thankfully way easier and better then the unbalance of Reshef of Destruction.
Time passes when you talk to important characters
TRPG = Tactical Roleplay Game
And in the Original Manga Bakura always plays those games a lot even has a whole plot line based on one
One of my favorites from back in the day ! Can still beat it in an afternoon when Im bored.
how creepy is that though really. an alley that leads right up to a cemetery, so CREEPY
Fam your commentary is hilarious and very entertaining with this video
1:03:32 if I had to guess why Jinzo is Thunder, it’s probably a reference to his full name: Jinzo Ningen Psycho Shocker. Ah japan and their puns
what about that is a pun
Cash Nelson Yeah, you’re right, that’s not a pun. Oh well haha
Finally! I was hoping you would play The Sacred Cards for a long time.
Saber Slasher was always in my deck until endgame for some reason. I don't know why.
Actually my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh game. I like the rpg elements. Like the story. I enjoy the changes to the rule. Just a fun game.
Time for a "good" gba Yugioh game
my memory tells me the only decent yugioh gba game was the GX one
@@TheEcoolarg world champ 2006 was good too, i think i even prefer that to duel academy.
Here's hoping he eventually makes it to Nightmare Troubadour. Sure, there's a decent amount of mistakes as usual (looking at you, Pegasus glitch), and the Dark Joey duel sucks major Kuribohs, but other than that, it's pretty good for its time. I actually still go back to it every so often, even around 15 years later.
this isn't eternal duelist soul what are you on about?
I actually had Reshef as a kid. Watching this makes me feel like I've been ripped off
I would love a remaster of this game with the proper ruleset and improved difficulty, but the chances of that are as slim as a remaster of Duck Dodgers for N64 which basically never 😕
the whole point of this game existing was to NOT have a proper ruleset, they already had games with the real rules a year earlier, but they made this game for people who liked the ruleset from game boy
This is one of the few Yu-Gi-Oh! games that doesn't have ridiculous over the top grinding difficulty.
The field scanning just allows continuous effects. Jinzo for example. In Sacred Cards, he checks face downs once and destroys traps. In Reshef, every scan would do Jinzo's trap destruction effect.
I like how this game is based on the manga
41:17 Surprise! It is. Just got put to limited a week or so ago.
Psychic type was not introduced until like 2011 or 2012
Yeah. Psychic decks in this sense were about cheating lol
I mean the scared cards was faithful to the anime but it was too easy considering the fact you just get op cards from the very start contract of mask is insanely good though near the end you will need to grind but it takes less then a hour and by then you'll allready be able to use almost if not all cards by late game
Joey! If you lose the duel, you'll lose your soul!!!
Holy, I played this game before. I miss my game boy.
I've been interested in Yu-Gi-Oh again lately and have been looking through my cards and I still have the 3 limited edition cards that came with this game
Ahh the game befor Reshef. Were in for a good one
Still have this game! Might have to bust it out and play along lol
I have a feeling you can attack the moon in this game
You mention this game comes after Reshef, but all sources I've found say that Reshef is a sequel to this game.
Ayyyyy new pikasprey series let’s go
I am so glad he plays the original, the fun one
one of the few games where rituals are specific monsters and not random
Ain't no 4kids to save you now 😂
This is one of my fav YGO games!
And here i am thinking i can use Lunalights in one of the older games.
This is my favorite yugi oh game ever I haven't played any other game but this one best one all time tbh
It's the easiest one of all time, that's for sure
Reshef was a nightmare 😫 idc this game is easy it was fun..Also it wasn't easy when I was a kid learning English..it helped me learn English and math !
Die automatically from a monster's element despite damage difference... sounds a lot like Sus-ke Samurai. *Among Us*
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Buy the Blue-Eyes and Summoned Skull!!
I enjoyed the video. It is hard game and fun. Good work on the video.
Oh lord this game. I grew up with this one and I’m not exactly convinced it’s good..
How has Asprey never seen Wretched Ghost of the Attic until now? That card is practically a meme.
I'm pretty sure he already saw this card in Reshef (and did a similar joke) and forgot about it
@@No-yp7kr Okay. Fair enough.
41:15 It’s off the Forbidden list, Asprey. It’s limited now.
Loved this game!
of course moomin doesn`t want to be called a hippo he is a smeargle
Holy crap out of a not heard of this game before it’s like legacy of Goku.
who else would agreed that this game is so fun?
From what I saw Reshef, in an attempt to add challenge that Sacred Cards didn't really have, sacrificed...well, everything that made the first game good and added a bunch of crappy features. All to make the game harder. Problem is, it wasn't the fun kind of harder, just the tedious and bad kind.
yeah, they made up for the shitty AI with absurd life points and NPCs broken decks (I've been reverse engineering this game for a while now tho and have some improvements in mind)
This game was actually awesome
Thanks for playing my childhood.
I think in terms of difficulty you might enjoy Day of the Duelist. I hope you play that one day!
Funny how Invisible Wire uses the English art when the cards that exist in the TCG use their JP arts here
If I’m not mistaken, the OGC artworks in the English version was an oversight in the game’s initial release. When this game and Reshef were released together as the Double Pack (which is what I played as a kid) the artworks were the TCG ones.
@@violethelianthus1436 Huh that's very interesting; I didn't know there was even a bundle for the English releases, let alone that this game had a Version 1.1 of sorts
@@esperstronpad1921 There was also a Double Pack 2, which had Destiny Board Traveler and Dungeon Dice Monsters. The problem with this one was that the B button, when pressed at a game’s title screen, would take you back to the game select screen. However, Destiny Board Traveler required the player to input certain combinations at the title screen to unlock four of the characters: Yami Yugi, Yami Bakura, Kaibaman, and Grandpa Muto. All these combinations required the B button to be pressed at some point. Since the B button took the player back to the game selection, these combinations were unusable, thus making the characters inaccessible. (If there were ever a time to use a cheating device, this would be it.) Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
@@violethelianthus1436 Oh so these were multicarts? Japan DEFINITELY didn't get those then. Did these Double Packs come with different cards than their standalone versions?
@@esperstronpad1921 Do you mean cards in the came or promotional cards?
Fun fact, h harpies feather duster is now legal
The game is fun, but i remember having to repeat a duel just to earn some good cards. I think i beat the game. This was my first real yugioh game that played like the show.
The last Banlist did in fact put Harpies Feather Duster to 1
