I always liked that there are yugioh games that aren't just a simulator of the card game don't get me wrong I love the tcg but getting to see the characters and monster I love in different types of games is just cool.

Kuriboh actually becomes one of the fastest & strongest monsters in the game when you get the multiply item & use its special attack; easily the strongest of any monster you start out with
This is legit one of my favourite games ever. I played it SO much growing up. I actually bought it again a few years ago along with a controller and a memory card to play on my friend's gamecube.
I remember enjoying this game quite a bit, but mostly because I crave games likes Ogre Battle and Ogre Battle 64. That mix of turn-based RPG combat and real time strategy gameplay is just wonderful, like peanut butter cups.
It would make sense, but he apparently didn't do that in Forbidden Memories either. Not that he really could, seeing as how he was toward the _end_ of the game then and Reptiles had practically no support back then. Of those three monsters, only Alligator's Sword is in this game.
@@SuperGoker64 Fair enough. More of a funny observation than a real complaint. Granted, with the loosey goosey nature of monster stats in this game, even weaker monsters don't inheremtly have to be weak. But it is a little surprising that Alligator Sword is the only one of the three in this game due to it's relative contemporary status compared to the other two.
@@tomforge614 Funny thing about that: I've actually been putting down ideas for a theoretical sequel for a while now, and Krokodilus was part of the list of monsters I already had in there. I gave it Water-Adept and Armor for abilities. Surprisingly, I didn't have Toon Alligator in at the time, so I just added it in now with Water-Adept and Lucky.
@@SuperGoker64 Well, to be genuine, I feel the most idealized version of the game would be the overworld strategy formula and experience accumulation of "Falsebound Kingdom" with the encounter gameplay and deck leader elements of "Duelist of the Roses". Namely, being able to move duelist units around on the map while facing minions to rack up experience for monsters rather than just jumping to the boss duelist of each area. Might sound a little clumsy at first, but I feel it would make for a perfected Yugioh experience in a game. As for "Falsebound Kingdom" and "Duelist of the Roses" separately, I'm surprised that Konami never aent about making the different gameplay styles into franchises, either Yugioh or original, if only for their unique yet dynamic gameplay.
@@tomforge614 I, on the other hand, have never played DOR since I've only ever owned Nintendo systems. Thus, my ideas are mainly about expanding on what FBK already had. Mostly things like adding new monsters, items, abilities and effects, balancing what's already there (Dragons in particular are in need of a serious buff), and possibly expanding the item slots per monster to 5 instead of 3 (but limiting the number of copies of each item per monster to 3 at most). The biggest change, though, would be to add Traps. Like with Potions and Magic, they would be limited-use items, though that's about where the similarities end. Rather than manually using them, they activate on their own (whether you want them to or not) under specific situations for no AP cost. They're also not revealed to the opponent just what Trap they are until they're either activated for the first time or an effect forces the reveal, but once revealed, they stay revealed for the rest of the map.
Fizdis was that palace servant from Forbidden Memories, who you only see when Heishin and his men attack the pharaoh’s palace. She didn’t even have a known name at the time.
I played this game so many times as a kid, but don't have access to a Gamecube any more. Glad to see somebody I follow give it a playthrough. The game's kind of weird, especially as a Yu-Gi-Oh product, but very underappreciated
This is my first time watching this game in action, and it's indeed a very interesting concept, also, funny to see how Konami reused a lot of assets from the playstation games (like the soundtrack from Duelists of the Roses, and the character portraits from Forbidden Memories), maybe they had a low budget for this game, but it's a neat game
This is unironically one of my favorites games, even if it kinda undercooked. Its so much fun and I've been looking forward to you playing this ever since you first mentioned it on one of your duel links videos.
Some characters, like Simon, Fizdis, and Sebek are recycled from Forbidden Memories, while others only use the portraits, like how the boss of Stage 3 was the Meadow Mage from FM.
Ah yes, I remember playing this years ago. Game was super hard until I got Summoned Skull. NG+ was even easier thanks to just popping a God card during every fight.
i remember when i first discovered this game had ng+ and instead of switching to yugi's story, i immediately hit replay on kaiba's without a second thought LMAO
I still want either a duelist of the rose or a forbidden memories remake or new sequel. it doesn't need a bunch of cards added but I doubt it nowadays.
I was thinking the game tells you this at some point but each of the monsters have a colored circle on them and each of the Marshall's have a colored circle if you give a Marshall monsters with a similar colored circle it is supposed to give them a boost
Imagine this Game gets a sequel in the Gx world🥰. Jaden starting with Avian and getting the other Elemental Heroes and Crowler with his Ancient Gears....
Really cool that you are doing this playthrough. I dumped so many hours into this game when I was younger. Beat it probably 3-4 different times. I know it’s objectively a bad game in many ways but I can’t help but enjoy it. You kinda have to use a guide to find certain monsters because there are weird hidden objectives throughout the different routes. Not totally necessary ofc but it helps to get broken stuff like the harpie ladies. Also to know which towns sell the good items if you build a shop there. Basically the best way I found to beat the game is to make a few powerful teams with fast monsters with a lot of action points (ansatsu is a really good one in Yugi route for example) and load them up with damage booster items like legendary sword. Each team probably should have a monster reborn and one red one blue medicine. It’s also super fun to use certain combos like dark magician with dark magician girl if you can get them together on a team. They can do special attacks that hit all enemy monsters and just wreck the game. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did back in the day :)
i haven't given it a proper play in many years, but i don't remember the game being objectively bad. as someone that doesn't play strategy games/finds them too hard, what was bad about this one? i could play it without being overloaded with UI, and for me it was the right level of challenge without being too easy or too hard, noting that i started with the kaiba route before touching yugi's & didn't use a guide. [i had no idea kaiba's was supposed to be harder, i just chose him because he & the blue-eyes are my favourites in the franchise.]
@@electrocast The gameplay is way too slow, there are a lot of monsters you have to find in random places on the map or with specific characters with no hints, the interfaces and controls are confusing not well-explained (like for team formation for example), lots of typos and poor translations, and just missing information in general. There a lot of "I never would have known that" moments if you haven't played the game several times already. Then again, the game was released back in the era of guides and instruction manuals, so maybe they were expecting players to use those while playing. But still, would have been nice if the game had a bit more polish, and a way to speed up the battles and overworld movement. All that being said, I still love the game, but I do realize that it had a lot of issues and could understand why people would give it a bad rating if they aren't a diehard fan of the series.
@@seda_11 oh okay, that makes sense. the slowness never bothered me much, as i adore a video game that will let me multitask while i play it. but i know a lot of people prefer more engagement. i don't remember finding monsters to be an issue. i mean, i was able to get blue-eyes, that was all i needed tbh, i'd just stick one on every marshal team & it'd make that unit good enough to battle regardless of what other monsters i put beside them. no idea if that strategy was a good idea at the time, i get the feeling it wasn't, i was a teenager just wanting to see my favourite monster all over the map lmao but it was good enough to get me through the game. i guess if you're a completionist that'd be irritating, but if you want to 100% a game you're probably already looking at a guide anyway.
@@Allstaar1117 That's actually 100% why I spread them across my marshals. I didn't want to cripple Kaiba's actions by putting them all on him, so I only put one per team
Since you mentioned the music, it's really is familiar to me too! I remember Duelist of the Roses used some of the same music- in particular the fight with Ethos here has the same music as fighting Yugi in Duelist of Roses. I was really surprised they share tracks. They both do clearly have unique music to each other though, themed more to the setting they sue, which is nice to see!
One of the great things about Pikasprey's plays (and something he notes occasionally himself) is that even without having sight of the screen and only hearing the audio, you still know what's going on because of his running commentary. I have zero experience with Yu-Gi-Oh myself, but find myself watching anyway because if Pikasprey's playing, it's going to be a good time. 👍😊
I'm actually surprised to see a content creator I like playing one of my absolute favorite games from my childhood. Looking back this game is such an utter mess that poorly communicates it's mechanics, but god I still love it so much.
MY FAVOURITE YUGIOH GAME!! For ages, this & Duelists of the Roses were the only Yugioh games I cared about because they weren't tcg simulators. I remember loving the Kaiba route so I'm a bit sad I have to wait longer to get to see it here lmao
Also also, the guard mechanic is simple but unexplained at all throughout the game. When a monster guards, it only goes down if the attacking monster has enough power to do damage; breaking the guard, or if it registers the guarding monster's next turn. If the monster uses his guard for his final action, and the next set of turns go by, the game will register that it is the guarding monster's turn, and take down the guard even if the monster can no longer use action points.
I'm gonna have to pick this up for myself! This game gives me huge Ogre Battle 64 vibes- commanding units on a world map, then fighting in simple RPG battles. Plus it's Yu-Gi-Oh without any of the mechanics I'd need to understand from Yu-Gi-Oh, so that's an immediate plus in my book. :y
It's a surprisingly decent game. It has some clear issues, that mostly appear symptomatic of being rushed; from copypaste teams in Kaiba and Joey's campaigns, to some questionable balance and map design decisions, and a few mechanics that exist with no real follow up. On the other hand, there's a lot of weird polish in areas that show that SOMEONE was pouring love into it; from the oddly intricate AI, to the sheer number of items, skills, transformations, and passive effects, to the amount of variety in teams and strategies on enemy teams in Yugi's campaign. Probably the greatest issue is the length of time the game takes, especially as you start encountering teams that spam healing, and how effortlessly the game crumbles to certain strategies or team combos.
OMG I remember playing this on the GC! Rented it on blockbuster, and ended up buying it lol. Collected all monsters and then some. Wow. The nostalgia feels
when I played this game I had sliverfang as my front runner( as he was fast), clietic guardian, and black gala dragon as my go to team. I'm pratically screaming to put sliverfang in front to get to places faster.
Aye, finally, someone does a lets play! I i just wish they would remaster these unique yugioh games. Like? A turn based table-top RPG?! I think it had a lot of potential.
This is one of the games i put many hours of play into as i got to the 3rd story lost the save file and had to play through all 3 storys again. I remember having so much fun because it brought strategy pokemon ish fights, and really awesome maps. Also i remember using these 3 like fairy/pixie looking things (i think it was tea's units) but it was so op i could not get hit at all
I wish they did an open world rpg sandbox which you can collect the monsters and actually battle monsters in real time combat and get the choice to capture the monsters you defeat, have a base which you can customize with field spells and traps, use equip spells to give your monsters a boost or nerf, use spells and quick play spells to affect monsters on the field, and can ride certain monsters to travel faster and to new locations
bruh, you can recruit monsters like that? No wonder I couldn't get past a couple maps. I just kept thinking "how am I supposed to win when my monsters are so weak compared to them." Well thanks for showing me that. I might play this game again myself
Especially early on, it can be useful to heap the three best monsters onto Yugi/Kaiba, then redistribute those monsters back to carry the other teams after a map or two, especially with newer recruits replacing the terrible ones.
The thing is kuriboh can actually do a lot of damage later on with items and multiply for the special move. And if I remember correctly weaker monsters have more action points than stronger monsters to be more "balanced"
This game is underrated and also underdeveloped. The concept of this game was brilliant in its own way, how it shares some ideas from Pokemon and Final Fantasy, but it was just missing too many things. It doesn't feel like you get to make very many meaningful decisions in the game and you just automatically swap the newest monster's you can find into your party as soon as you're able. Still a really cool game though! Would love to see a reboot someday.
I think the big reason they can't make a lot of spinoff video games for modern Yugioh is two-fold. 1) There are 9000+ monsters 2) Modern Yugioh is too archetype-dependant to emulate the ragtag ensemble feel of "Falsebound Kingdom", "Duelist of the Roses", and "Capsule Monster Colosseum".
Just pick a couple monsters from several archetypes. An army representing the wildest dreams of Blue-Eyes Archfiend Gishiki Machine-King players come to life would look even more ragtag if you knew these monsters had families.
I never thought barrel dragon looked like a nerf gun. It always looked like a fuel rod cannon or something to me. I like both art tbh. It looks sick like it's a halo gun used by john halo. Barrel dragon is probably my favorite non waifu card.
I loved this game as a kid! I beat it a lot of times just to find all the monsters because, yes, there is NOTHING available in ways of guides, and there was even less back then. It's fun though. Rather time consuming (which is why I haven't replayed it in full recently) but very fun.
I remember when my dad bought this for me on christmas. Funny thing is my dad has literally hundreds of hours on this game. He also has hundreds of hours in Capsule Monster Coliseum.
I think the character sprites are the one use in "Worldwide Edition" for the GBA, and a few might be from "Forbidden Memories". That might explain the low quality.
Pikasprey, I think you would LOVE Yugioh: Duelist of the roses. It's a fantastic turn based strategy game where your cards move around a board essentially, and it revolves around one card that you choose as your commander.. You can choose your side in a war (both sides are depicted by Yu-Gi-Ohs classic characters) and it has a lot of diverse options for building your deck. It's a really fun and interesting game! Too bad it's a one off.

This game seems very flawed, but overall fun.
Been waiting on this one! One of my favorite Yugioh games period.
It's fairly cheap off of ebay if you want a physical copy, around $10-$20.
I wish I had this game back then
looks pretty fun, I personally enjoy these type of strategy games
Yup... As someone who had this game back then, I spend a LOT of time with it.
Love this game. It is a lot of fun. Loved the fact that they left the Konami code in and play such a useful role.
Also i remember using these 3 like fairy/pixie looking things (i think it was tea's units) but it was so op i could not get hit at all
And i put in alot of time hunting for all the "hidden" monstsrs in the wild you could defeat and then use.
Funny how this is considered a bad game. I completed it many years ago and absolutely LOVED it!! I did have the guide book, which helped tremendously.
Just found this channel because of this LP, glad to say that I'm entertained. You're doing great!
oh god i remember playing this a long long long time ago on the game cube
Loved this game when I was younger seeing the cards in 3d moving. And you’re right the music is great listen to it while at work sometimes
Love to find a good playthrough that triggers my nostalgia. Would love to see a Tekking101 someday
I loved playing this game mann, so many hours put into it
bruh, you can recruit monsters like that? No wonder I couldn't get past a couple maps. I just kept thinking "how am I supposed to win when my monsters are so weak compared to them." Well thanks for showing me that. I might play this game again myself
Especially early on, it can be useful to heap the three best monsters onto Yugi/Kaiba, then redistribute those monsters back to carry the other teams after a map or two, especially with newer recruits replacing the terrible ones.
brings back memories I haven't played since tribute summoning a 2000 def monster was the strat and summoned skull was the best beater
I remember loving this game. I still own my original copy 😊
Pikasprey playing Forbidden Memories needs to happen
I had this game for the GameCube and I loved it, although, I was only able to do Yugi's campaign in the game
Kaibas campaign was a bit tougher in my opinion
@@osirisgaming9451 Same here. but it was fun
This looks like ogre battle, really liked that game.
Yeah, I wish they'd make a sequel. The last one I played was one the GBA.
Without a doubt, this is one the Yu-Gi-Oh Games of all time.
I was so happy seeing this, this was one of my favorite game cube games so gonna love watching this
poor obelisk, the castle covering his face
The thing is kuriboh can actually do a lot of damage later on with items and multiply for the special move. And if I remember correctly weaker monsters have more action points than stronger monsters to be more "balanced"
time to watch this series for the third time. I love this game so much
If it weren't for the possible crash, I'd say it might be a good idea to farm the respawns... Maybe get a couple levels.
I have been waiting for this!
ps. the samurai and ninja are OP with his like 10 attacks when they level haha
I played the crap out of this game as a kid. Beat Kaiba's story and all that jazz. It's dope.
This game is underrated. I love the concept
I think the big reason they can't make a lot of spinoff video games for modern Yugioh is two-fold.
1) There are 9000+ monsters
2) Modern Yugioh is too archetype-dependant to emulate the ragtag ensemble feel of "Falsebound Kingdom", "Duelist of the Roses", and "Capsule Monster Colosseum".
Even if this game is a jank af mess, the music is god-tier
Ohh hell yeah some pikasprey after a long day at work. Also I had this for GameCube it kept me entertained for many hours
Watching this reminds me of the smell of freshly-unpacked Yugioh cards.
I loved this game as a kid! I beat it a lot of times just to find all the monsters because, yes, there is NOTHING available in ways of guides, and there was even less back then. It's fun though. Rather time consuming (which is why I haven't replayed it in full recently) but very fun.
Well back when this game came out I used to have a strategy guide for this game
2:06:44 Hellooo, respawning enemies. Thankfully, your own units can respawn as well.
I remember when my dad bought this for me on christmas. Funny thing is my dad has literally hundreds of hours on this game. He also has hundreds of hours in Capsule Monster Coliseum.
Woo boy. Rata finally uploaded a new video, and now Pikasprey uploads yugioh.
Pikasprey playing Yu-Gi-Oh!
I can finally sleep again.
BRO I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS GAME
24:52 Don't forget using monster effects, trap cards, and spell cards
The music for the second area sounds like bunch of gibdo screams in the background
Holy crap this brings me back. I beat this game once but I played as Kaiba.
I think the character sprites are the one use in "Worldwide Edition" for the GBA, and a few might be from "Forbidden Memories". That might explain the low quality.
That is RPG style! Maybe the only one yugioh RPG style game. I love it, remind me of final fantasy, breath of fire, etc...
It saddens me I never got to beat this game :(
Just what I wanted in my video game based on a children's card game: RPG elements.
I like it, when they added other game elements. It keeps the spirit of the original manga and first series.
Having never played this game before, I can definitely say without a doubt that I wish I had played this instead of Duelist od the Roses.
Honestly I loved duelist of the roses over this but both are great games. I wish we could get a port of this game or remaster
Sadly, so is this one *:(*
So awesome you can be Kaiba, I want to get this game now.
