Just started the Teach Yourself book. Been going on Finnish for about 2 months, so I'm ready to hit the ground running with the Grammer, etc. Happy to have found your channel.

Really good and helpful review - it would have been great if we could see inside the books though.

I wish I was a better book learner!I have the Teach Yorself Complete Finnish, and the CD definitely helps, but I just don't have the attention span to learn on my own. If I had the funds to get a tutor I totally would - I've been trying to learn on my own for 7 years now haha

    Two major points.
What you own is the 2011 edition. Since then the Teach Yourself has introduced their brand new "discovery method" aiming at making their reader decypher the grammar on his own. I don't know how this has impacted the Finnish course but grammar explanations could be different now.
Second, introducing a lot of new vocabulary can make the learning process really daunting.
A beginner need the most basic vocabulary drilled into him by constant repetition and having long word lists is not really a good way to go.

Have you seen the old version of Teach Yourself Finnish by Arthur Whitney? It purely deals with grammar.
