  • @gravitythrottleracing
    @gravitythrottleracing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Jordan, thank you for the review. Wow, very helpful!! I could use your advice. I'm shopping for LED lighting for my YT channel. I race Hot Wheels on a track that looks like a model trainset. That's really the only need I have for lighting, nothing fancier. Currently I use Home Depot LED shop lights that are chained together. Each puts out 3200 lumens. To me it's a nice warm look but maybe it's not bright enough. I film the racing at 120fps then slow the film. Some "replay" clips are slowed to 15%. The lighting seems adequate with the LED shop lights, but I'd love to know your thoughts for improving it. I'm building a larger, longer track. Thanks in advance!

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! That's quite a tough one. What camera are you using? These Neewer lights may not be amazing for 120fps work all the time, but if you have a camera with decent low light performance, then you might get away with it.
      Alternatively, it sounds like it could require one really bright light, paired with a large softbox to spread that light. Perhaps an Amaran 200D with an Aputure Lantern, via a C stand or something to hang over your sets?

    • @gravitythrottleracing
      @gravitythrottleracing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use several GoPro's. My new track layout is going to be long (a 45' L-shape) and relatively narrow (5' or less). This will require consistent lighting from start to finish. Any more feedback you have is welcome, thanks.

    Waveform comparison, what does it mean? Chromaticity, luminance flux, what produced the waveform, and in what units?

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's various types of waveform charts, but the standard (greyscale) shows luminance values measured on an IRE scale, whilst you can also have an RGB waveform which separates the red, blue and green luminance values, so you can compare and tweak the chroma values - great for checking your white balance, black levels! There's many other reasons, but these are my personal two main selling points for using it when possible.

    Any recommendations for shooting product reviews? Thoughts? I don't have very much lighting options now, bc I usually shoot outside. However, I want to film more inside now.. will be ok? should I go with Umbrella or Soft Box? Please help.. Thanks J

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Product filming introduces more things to consider, compared to interviews/outdoor filming. Especially when it comes to shooting products that have reflective materials (glass) as you can easily see the light source. I'd personally go the softbox route, and invest in a range of shapes such as rectangular as well as circular. Also make sure honeycomb grids are included to minimise light spill on your backgrounds.
      A tube light is also a great option to have! Super slim, and portable which is great for when you want to move light over a subject within the shot 👍
      Hope this helps!

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @PanayiotisMavrokefalos

    A question would be if you use say a battery that connects to the dc in (lipo with high discharged rate used in rc cars for example) to power up the panel through the dc in socket would it still have the power limitation? As these batteries can be found in several capacities I strongly believe its a much better option which can increase your operation and probably be a cheaper option. Nevertheless great review. Am leaning towards getting them as a fill light for events to light dancefloor etc. Do you think it's up to the task? Am planning to get three of them.

    Great video, thanks! I've just bought 3 660's (£178 with Amazon UK promotion, May 2021), to use on a classical music video, to be recorded in a small church. Hopefully, they will be bright enough. Most people say 'knee-wear', when pronouncing Neewer.

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed it! That's a great price you've gotten it for. If you can, just make sure to power it by mains to get the maximum output out of them! And if the ambient lighting allows, shoot at 4300K for usage of all the available LED beads.
      Hope it goes well!

    What is better for green screen work, led panels vs softboxes? Thanks

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd personally say softboxes for the lighting of the green screen itself, purely due to the larger spread they'd give and therefore have a softer gradient/fall off. The bigger the diffusion, the better the results 👍🙂

  • @3o1Golf
    @3o1Golf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    what light would you recommend for flming slowmotion with 220fps and im filming a fast moving golfclub

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would naturally depend on the camera you're using and where. A camera with an impressive second dual-base ISO like 12800 would mean you may not need as much light output.
      If outdoors, and its sunny, you should be fine. Perhaps an Aputure 300D II with a hyper reflector would give you some nice separation.
      If indoors, you'd need much more power output. Maybe a few 300Ds. If you're filming the person as well as the ball, I'd personally use a modifier to soften that light source on one of the lights.
      Apologies for not knowing exactly, there's quite a few variables here. The best advice is to rent lighting, especially if it's not very often you require to shoot that level of slow motion, but it's always good to have too much light power and bring it down, rather than not enough light power and sacrifice image quality, preferred depth of field etc 🙂

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not too sure if it would be the perfect light for photography. For general studio portraits, absolutely, due to only needing a shutter angle of around 1/125. However, you wouldn't notice the power output if outdoors, and may be limited for photography requiring a higher shutter (product, action) if your camera is limited on low-light capability

    • @JordanLeeVideo

      If you used mains power, you'd have a higher chance of usable lighting. The lower output using batteries may obstruct you slightly, especially if you shot at 3200/5600k as these use the least amount of LED beads. You should be fine with any RGB or Effect modes though 👍 Unfortunately you can't shoot with cool light AND RGB at the same time.

    Can it be used in a music studio

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There isn't any DMX connection for advanced studios, but it's possible to link up all of the lights and control remotely using the Neewer App. That could potentially work, depending on the distance from the control room to the studio 🤞

    I bought these lights after seeing nothing but praise online. What no one seemed to mention was the possibility of banding with LED lights. Getting wicked banding with Lumix S5 - any suggestions out there?

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you referring to colour banding in the image, or a strobing effect from the lights? If it's to do the colour, all I can suggest is to make sure you're shooting in 10 bit. I've never encountered issues with 'strobing' with this light, including recording in slow motion

    Very good informations 👍🏻 I am not sure to buy them or the normal neewer leds 🤔 best cinematic greetings from germany

      Thanks very much! The best advice I could give is to choose whether the purchase would be for your current requirements (the normal LEDs) , or invest a bit more in, potentially, more advanced creative requirements, or more opportunity, later down the line 😊

    Great. Thank you 😊 well explained, detailed review. I’m still not sure if it’s what I need for the videos that I make. Most people review for presenters and streamers, but I guess that’s the more popular demand. Excellent video tho. Thank you

      Thank you so much! They're definitely a great all rounder, but you're right that they may not be perfect for more professional scenarios. Good luck in finding the one that's right for you 🙂

      They definitely are! The only issue I found was that they still aren't the brightest in conditions that are already lit (such as studio work), especially when using battery power. But for the price, size and features, absolutely worth it and can see me using them for years 🙂

    Can you help a brother out? Maybe you have some ideas:
    I’m new to all this crap and my head is spinning. I want to put together a small studio set-up in a room used for other purposes as well. (It’s a bitch being poor.) My idea is to install three articulating arms into the walls, and these Neewer lights appeal to me because they’re so flat. In other words, the arms lay flat against the wall saving space (no stands), I store the lights away or face them flat against the wall, and I just pull the arms out when shooting. AC only, no battery power required.
    The articulating arms CAN also offer superior and easier adjustment options, and this is my first question. Ever hear of anyone doing a studio set-up like this?
    Next, does anyone make an even less expensive, but comparable FLAT light, like the Neewer?

      @JordanLeeVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure I can help you with a definitive solution. I know people like to mount lights onto extendable and retractable fittings from the ceiling, but none from the wall.
      In my opinion, these are the best value lights of this size. Also the best build, and the quality of the light itself feels more than acceptable instead of the magenta shifts many cheap LED panels may have nowadays

      They're NP-F batteries. I've got the 970s, and these ones come with a fast charger too which is handy www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B082XXWV9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_Y87W67WTK9B0PGN05JP9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

    don't know what happened, but these aren't 'budget' anymore. on fleabay they're AU$600-700 for a pair, and 'budget' in my world is about AU$200-odd.
    that kind of money spent is more mid-range than budget, personally.

    Such an amazing explanatory video! I've decided on going for Neewers for my new main lights, but I'm super hesitant between the RGB or just plain bicolor lights. I love the additional RGB functionality if needed, but I am afraid that the RGB version compared to the standard version has lesser performance when using for a keylight in say interviews or other keying objectives. Do you have any opinions or insights on that? You gained a subscriber btw! 😁

    • @JordanLeeVideo
      @JordanLeeVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks very much! Appreciate your comment 🙂 I personally don't think there's much to worry about there, as the Bicolour feature uses different LED beads to the RGB features. So colour accuracy wouldn't change because of that additional feature 🙂 Plus I was very impressed with the power output of the RGB colours. It's essentially a fantastic additional feature to have for just a little bit more, but eradicates the need for having to purchase RGB specific lights too 👍

    How can you call something the "best" unless you've personally tested every light on the market, and that would be a dubious claim. So, unless you have, you're unqualified to to say it's the "best." And misleading your viewers.

      Simply a title to catch your attention, I guess! Although, I can guarantee that at least 50% of video reviews include the word 'best' in their videos, regardless of the channel's experience in that field.
