You mentioned you loved the drumming. That drummer that has been with the band since the mid 60's has just recently past away. Graeme Edge, a drummer and co-founder of The Moody Blues, has died. He was 80. Ray thomas, the Flutest a few years before that. We are all getting old. A fan since 1973 ( i was 18) and a 6 time MB concert goer and to this day they hold the number 1 spot of countless concerts I've been to by so many bands.Tom Petty,(8 times), the Who(2), Rolling Stones (2) , ELO , Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, ect. ect. ect. Oh wow, I haven't heard this song for such a long time and yet it's so familiar! It's from 1970 and it's just wonderful, the way it starts off so fast then slows down - so beautiful, and then speeds up again, so loud. The Moody Blues were an amazing, creative band and Justin Hayward is a great singer. A couple of really good songs out of so many are Never Comes the Day and the classic Nights in White Satin - what a great title for a song! Once you've heard that song, you won't forget it! As I say, it's a classic, just like A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum that you recently reacted to. Both these incredible songs were released in 1967. Thanks so much for this reaction, guys, enjoyed it very much. It's so good hearing all these songs that I haven't heard for ages!

This song was a favorite of mine. The Moody Blues always take you on a "trip" with their music, a blend of rock and classical music. They are considered early prog rock. We use to call it head music; their lyrics and musical arragements were always deeply moving and often profound. You should listen to the whole of their pioneering 1967 concept album, "Days of Future Passed", for a musical journey cumulating in their opus "Nights in White Satin". There's nothing like it. Thanks for reminding me again of this song and your observation of varied sounds of the 60s and 70s music was spot on.

The Moody Blues were very influential in Rock music. This is a great song! "Tuesday Afternoon" is another classic along with one of the greatest songs ever recorded "Nights In White Satin," which you should definitely react to, but the longer, album version, not the single version. Unless it includes the true ending, fans WILL be disappointed. ❤

I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's-80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Nights In White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" & "Your Wildest Dreams". But all of their music is great. Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once.

He also sang, played flute and saxophone. They were the first group to use an instrument called a mellotron. Mike Pinder played that. john Lodge on bass and of course Justin Hayward, amazing vocalist and guitar player. They were creative and innovative and unique. Appreciated your reaction! 🥰

A lot of Moody Blues albums just flow directly from one song into the next; this one crashes into "How Is It We Are Here." A Question of Balance and Days of Future Passed are both fantastic albums and worth listening to in their entirety. If you want a taste of the song flow in action, find "Procession" and "The Story in Your Eyes" as a pair.
For more of the drummer going full speed ahead, "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band" is a great one.

Guys! The Moodies…. At last. Can you imagine hearing this song on your first trip? How deep those lyrics embedded in my soul. This was such a hit for them too. One of their best, but they have plenty!
    1. Most of their early albums (the first 7) have one song running seamlessly into the next with no silence in between.
2.Your best choice is to listen to studio versions before ever diving into live performances.
From this album, A Question of Balance, you should check out It’s Up To You, Dawning Is the Day, and The Balance. Or check out earlier albums On The Threshold of a Dream and work your way up.

They are also a great live band that sometimes used an orchestra. They are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well. If going live, post 1990 are the better renditions of their songs. They are a polished band that has many sounds and are always tremendous in melody, poetry and meaning and are superb singers and musicians. Go deeper with them and you will not be disappointed.

  • @MisterWondrous
    @MisterWondrous 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Growing up with this music, I can tell you that I, and many other people, memorized all the lyrics of all the songs of most of the prog bands from the late 60s and early 70s, because the music, and lyrics, were timeless, profound, beautiful, weird. And memorizing poetry is part of being human, like birds singing.
Music reflects the time, and the time reflects the music back. Those were profound, beautiful and weird, but not timeless, times. Except for those who chose to go timeless; become unstuck in time. This unstuck the music, which allowed it to grow wings and soar to new heights.
They actually played this song on the radio. One of the best things to ever make it to popular radio. Madloba. Peace.

Their best album, however, is "To Our Children's Children's Children", so I'd love it if you'd review/react to the lead-off track from that album, called "Higher & Higher". The song is a tribute to the first manned landing on the moon, which had just happened months earlier.

Not bad for a song that's about 50 years old. The MB helped pioneer progressive rock and they were the band that introduced philosophy in rock music. And it was Mike Pinder (keyboards) that started using the mellotron with all its weird effects, and told the Beatles about it. Then they used it on the Sgt. Pepper's album.
In so many of the MB songs, the transitions and other instrumentation are almost other-wordly. And as for the lyric, they make you think about yourself and life. It's a rare, rare quality to be able to combine the two. The Moody Blues were truly their own genre of music. There was nothing quite like them then, or now.

I watched them in a concert doing music they did 20 years earlier, just fantastic, it blew my mind, "Nights In White Satin" "I'm Just A Singer In A Rock And Roll Band" and "For My Lady", it was like going back in time. They were out of fashion.
    But beware of fashion.

The gorgeous voice, beautiful lyrics and wonderful melodies of the one and only Justin Hayward together with the exceptional musicality of the other members of the band. Priceless.

I really love The Moodies and along with Queen they are still one of my all time favourite bands. Was so lucky to see them live three times and they were amazing each time .

This was so advanced when it came out in all aspects and is still a brilliant song, the single version does fade out but this LP version fades into another song as on many MB albums. You will hear more great tracks on this LP and others as they one of the great British bands and a unique creative force. But guys you still haven't heard the beautiful twin-guitar of 'The King Will Come from the LP 'Argus' by Wishone Ash - yet another great Brit rock band!

Hey guys, I've been on a Moody Blues vibe all evening. I saw your reaction to "Question" and I thought your review was awesome and seemed you where very impressed. I'm 65 and I grew up with this kind of music. There are a lot of Moody Blues songs that would blow your mind, though a lot of there stuff are sleepers as well. I have a suggestion for you to review, it's called Moody Blues - Story In Your Eyes (with intro). Make sure you find the one with the intro, is like a extended version of the song "Story In Your Eyes." If you like there creativeness you got to review this one.

Hello! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!! I'm 59 years old, and I love your channel and your reactions to the music that I grew up with. I would HIGHLY suggest that you listen to The Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin". There is a GREAT live version done in 2000 at the Royal Albert Hall. I suggest this, because you can see that even as they aged, they were still amazing musicians, and also because Justin Hayward still had an incredible voice as he aged. And I have always LOVED the fact that this band entwined classical music elements within their music. Please listen to more of their music, not because I love it, but because I think you will love it too. Take Care and Best wishes!
