I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's-80's. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. Their most famous song is "Nights In White Satin". But they have so many great songs such as "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Ride My See-Saw", "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" etc. All of their music is great! Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once. Sadly Ray Thomas their flute player & singer passed away in 2018 & their drummer Graeme Edge passed away in 2021.
Too many times people ignore all their other songs for "Nights in White Satin" to the point where it is overplayed, just like "Stairway to Heaven" [led you-know -who] and "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" [ the late Gordon Lightfoot] as if that's the only song they ever did. It's a decades long disease called "CRCRP"....corporate radio classic rock playlists. That goes for almost every 1960's, 70's and 80's bands now bleeding into the decades that came after. It's refreshing to finally hear and see someone exposed to their other great work.
They are one of my faves as well. My late father loved them and played them all the time and that’s how came to be a fan. I’m 43 and they sure don’t make music like this anymore. This is my fav by them. But yes, they have lots of good songs. I own serval of their LPs.

The Moody Blues were one of my favorite bands back in the day. This song is one of their earlier ones and has a 60's feel to me. I loved them because they were so unique and unlike most of the other bands out there. They and The Alan Parsons Project were Progressive rock bands worth diving into.
I grew up on the Moody Blues. One of my favourite bands of all time. When he says all the love you are giving is all been meant for you, what I got from it is the more love you give out the more love you will get back. It is the law of attraction. Very spiritual lyrics.
Lots of rock song writers of the era tried to be deep and meaningful with their lyrics but the Moodies were one of the best at truly doing it while keeping you rocking
An early deep song, as are their holy seven albums, plus. Concur with Laura on "The Actor". They, like Jon Anderson, were medicinal music. If you were "tripping balls", pop on some Moodies, and all will be well. I have been there. Jon Anderson will also bring you back to homeostasis. Medicinal. A good buzz. Play all you want. It is healing, and may help heal these troubled times.
I looooove that one. May be my favorite of all too. Our reasons are the same, but there's no one left to blame, for there's nowhere we need go, and the only truth we know comes so easily.
One of the most unique things about the Moody Blues is that all five members wrote the songs and four of them traded lead vocals. There were so many great songs but I would start with these: Story in Your Eyes I'm just a Singer Isn't Life Strange
Thanks for listening to this GREAT song. From a GREAT group. The Moodies could be considered the first Prog group. They did so many things first. Hear those "strings"? That's the melotron they innovated.
As a young boy in the early 1970s my school took us on a field trip to see the Cleveland Orchestra. I was amazed by the sounds that I heard. And then I heard Nights In White Satin on the radio and fell in love with the Moody Blues. I have always loved rock music with orchestration, and the Moody Blues were one of the best at it.
"Question " was a hit for them in the early 1970"s written and performed during the anti war movement of the era. The Moodies toured a lot of college venues and were exposed to the Vietnam era protests. This is a popular song and was usually performed as an encore at their concerts.
When I first came out of snow storm to start dorm life at WSU, my whole floor was into The Moody Blues. Which was great! However, they are "Moody " I found I needed to balance them out with some Zeppelin or Sly and the Family Stone. After which, I was ready for more!
Huh,I really needed this. Haven't been watching music reaction videos for a couple of weeks because I sometimes go through extended periods of depression. And when I do I can't appreciate the music in the way that it deserves. Thanks for being here when I need it. Seriously, this is a great song and glad to see you enjoyed it.

One of the first progressive rock bands with so much depth of music, lyrics, and with great vocals! The whole package! Biz what you call switch ups are actually transitions of music!
Wow, you just brought out ton of memories with this one. Saw and met these guys back in Detroit in 70s, with my husband. Fantastic concert! But now that my husband has passed away, this took on a whole new life. Im going to pull the albums out and listen again today. Moody Blues were and are one of the best ever!
I am a big Moody Blues' fan. Also saw them live. Here are my recommendations for you to react to: New Horizons, The Story In Your Eyes, Tuesday Afternoon, Melancholy Man, Ride My Seesaw, Watching And Waiting and It's Up To You. I also recommend a song the lead singer of ther Moody Blues, Justin Hayward, recorded on his own, called: Forever Autumn. I think you will love all of these songs.
I saw them in concert at Portland Arena back in the early 70’s!! Awesome show. They were just beginning to use synthesizers to enhance the music and I loved every minute of it. So glad I’m a 70 yo boomer who grew up during the absolute best music had to offer was on our transistor radios every day!! 👵🏼💜☮️
Number five in that seven album run of classic progressive albums. The Moodies have lots of hidden gems that weren't hits but are great songs. Recommendation: "The Word/OM" from their In Search of the Lost Chord album. It has a very Indian vibe.
The love that you've been given has all been meant for you... I always took it as validation of the listener in those oppressive times. Like a Rocking Mr Rogers.
Hey Biz. There is no way to describe the significance of this band to people of my generation (I'm 72). The beautiful orchestral arrangements and the lyrical content of these songs had a profound effect on so many of us. Where many bands made you dance or feel happy, this band made you think. Always loved "Tuesday Afternoon" but there are so many great songs from this group. So glad you are discovering all this great music and it makes me happy to see you reacting to it so positively. Peace.
I saw The Moody Blues in concert in '86 or '87. Their main hits from that era were "The Voice" and "Your Wildest Dreams", both of which I sing karaoke to occasionally. My favorite older MB's song is probably, "The Story In Your Eyes", which I have also sang. All three are great tunes and they sounded great in concert.

Days of Future Passed may be the only album I have saved on Spotify in its entirety, but A Question of Balance (which this kicks off) is the one I come back to the most. "The Balance" answers the question nicely. "Dawning Is the Day" is easily one of my favorites. Next, though, should be: "Procession" and "The Story in Your Eyes" AS A PAIR (this is crucial - a lot of their stuff is designed to flow into each other during album play. Also, if you include Procession, then you can follow up with "One More Time To Live" and get a lot more out of it.) There's so many great Moodies songs, my favourite tends to be the one I'm listening to at the time lol Someone on TH-cam complied his 10 top Moodies songs which was a great list but I easily complied another top ten list without duplicating any songs! "Question" is a banger, and released as a single iirc. The line, "The love you've been giving has all been meant for you" has given me pause for thought, too. It could mean that the love that was given was not unconditional love but one that was used for selfish purposes, to make the person feel good themselves. It could possibly mean that by giving love, it elicits love in return, though I'm not too convinced by this interpretation, as the relationship sounds troublesome. Any road, loved your reaction.

Knights in White Satin got to only No. 103 in American when it was released in 1968, but when it was re-released in 1971, it was No. 1 for two weeks in a row.
