I think this might have been our first look at Thrawn. Bo-Katan said that it seemed like a lot of ships sent after them for an Imperial Warlord, and Ahsoka was looking for Thrawn last season, which suggests that he's already been back but has been acting covertly for some reason.

I think the music you laughed at in Monument Plaza was a stylized orchestration of the Rebellion theme that was introduced in Ep.7.
We first heard it when Rebellion X-Wings arrived at Maz Kanata’s palace being played by a full orchestra.
We hear it being played in Monument Plaze by a selection of instruments that would typically comprise a carnival band.
Orchestration involves selecting which instrument is to play which line in the sheet music. Arrangement involves writing the details of the individual musical lines for each of the instruments.
Writing a song involves creating the overall basic themes of a musical piece. Orchestrating and arranging involves getting down into the weeds and working out the final details.

While Omid Abtahi, did an amazing job is his portrayal of Pershing, make him a character you want to empathize with. The dude was a eugenicist, even in his TED talk he slipped straight from I wanted to clone organs to here’s how we make genetically superior beings, as if it was the obvious next step. Through out the series we have seen how willing he is to side with anyone that lets him keep working, in this episode it took two days and a box of biscuits to get him to flip. If Kane did just fry his brains, she did the galaxy a favour, that boy was running around full of bad ideas coated in supposedly good intentions.

Surprisingly, this episode didn't do it for me, but that's okay.
Honestly, the stuff with Pershing and Kane gave me that Andor feeling that everyone else saw from that show, even though I still haven't seen Andor yet (I possibly will get on that before Season 2 and Ahsoka hits). Shoot, I was kinda getting bored watching that portion of the episode, even though I was paying attention to everything.
So far, Season 3 has gotten off to a slow start to me. But, I think it's intentional, because we have 5 episodes left. So, I hope in Episode 4 or 5, things pick up.
The stuff with Bo and Mando was nice to look at. Intrigued as to what is Bo's endgame here. Also, nice to see Katy O'Brian from Quantumania here (haven't watched that yet). I'm pretty sure, during the recap in the beginning, they showed her from Andor. I could be wrong about that.
To make a long story short (too late!), I'm not a fan of this episode, and I hope things pick up soon.

I think she’s following order from Gideon or Thrawn…. I also think the mandalorian going to have Sabine Wren and Asoka are going to show up at some point

Fantastic episode, IMO. I’ve seen a lot of negative comments about this episode that I really don’t understand. If this story is going to expand and evolve beyond just Mando and Grogu, we’ve got to have some screen time for the setup of these new directions. The opening battle with the Tie Interceptors was A++! Whose ship(s) were they coming from? Perhaps Thrawn’s?! 😃
Loved seeing Coruscant again (the Opera House!). COULD the Pershing-Kane intro narrative been trimmed up, time wise? Probably, but this may well prove to be an important story link to set up the coming of what will be the First Order. I don’t know why people are complaining about having more time in the galaxy to take in the world-building? There are storytelling comparisons in the Coruscant sequence with the style of ANDOR, and that’s no complaint, either.
I also liked the ending with the covert very much. But I was a little surprised at how quickly the Armorer accepted Bo-Katan into the covert. Though I’m not convinced at all that Bo is going to be content to stay with them for long…she’s got a family, at least for now, and possibly future allies. But she’s also playing the long game in regards to her knowledge of the Mythosaur’s presence on Mandalore.
    Patience, young Padewans! ❤

Theory: Thrawn is hiding somewhere near the Mandalorian systems (hence the numerous fighters), and is working actively to wipe out the Republic's access to cloning tech. Why? The Grand Admiral needs that tech to rebuild the Imperial army.

Has anyone forgotten from ‘The Rescue’ when they shot every Imperial on the Bridge? How did Elia Kane escape from being shot? It reminds me of how Reva survived Vader stabbing her in her chest with his lightsaber.
Also how did she get to occupy such a position of trust with the New Republic considering she’s ex Imperial and how does New Republic consider itself competent by sentencing him to this treatment without a trial so that he can defend himself?
Finally, why would they reduce a person seeking amnesty by imposing a code like L51?

-> she wasnt on the bridge/ship - at least not shown, so she maybe wasnt there
Also how did she get to occupy such a position of trust with the New Republic considering she’s ex Imperial and how does New Republic consider itself competent by sentencing him to this treatment without a trial so that he can defend himself?
-> the episode is a reference to OP Paperclip in which high ranking Nazi burocrats and scientists were recruited and re-integrated with a new identiy by the US - here imperials who lose their identiy and get re-integrated into the republic. Why he doesnt get a trial or chance to defend himself? because Elia already filed the report and snitched on him - its in theory claim vs claim with 2 people - and 1 was the entire time to some extent working with the republican authorities. also its to highlight that the new centralized burocracy has its own flaws, destroys usefull technology because of ideology/being careful and keeps dangerous devices because of naivity.
Finally, why would they reduce a person seeking amnesty by imposing a code like L51?
-> either they want the imperials to stay anonymous in order to avoid that they remember each other like the Doc did with the Comm Officer or its a metaphor to show again the New Republic is also just a big centralized dystopian burocracy which makes the same mistakes again, with the number hinting at the loyal clones who just followed orders which set the stage for the empire.

So I had to go back to the first season to look up if Jon Favreau is credited as Paz Vizsla in s1, even back then the character was credited to Tait Fletcher who is the man under the armor, while Jon does the voice uncredited apparently. He also voiced Pre Vizsla, leader of Death Watch in Clone Wars, so given this cult, the children of the watch is an offshoot of that, I wonder if Paz will play a larger part in the resurrection of Mandalorian society?

I skimmed the comments and I didn't see any mention of the Dark Horse miniseries Dark Empire, which came out around the same time as Heir to the Empire, and had a plot about Palpatine cloning himself. Not to pick the scabs again, but if the writers of the sequels had done their homework, the story ideas were were already there from the 90's.

count me with those who think Grogu was trying to say this is the way. The timing after Din and Bo said it just fits. I liked the Din Bo and Grogu parts best. The andorish middle part just didn't fit this show to me. Let Andor be Andor and keep Mandalorian the show that everyone has loved. It feels like the show runners have lost sight of what made this show a hit.

i'll be honest, all of the things you guys talked about -- expanding the universe, preparing for the next however many projects -- are my least favourite things about star wars in the last few years. it seems like the writers truly do not care about the show they're making, and are instead desperately trying to cover their asses because everyone on the internet flamed them for "somehow, palpatine returned". din's redemption and homecoming is reduced to the less important part of a b-plot. this is the third season of the mandalorian, and we heard no mando'a, have no context for why exactly the covert insists on helmets other than "it's tradition", have no insight into what din's life looked like growing up and how he feels about any of it. favreau said he has no ending planned for this show, and i'd be fine with it if i felt like it had any kind of consistent emotional core we could follow, instead of having the show become just spackle they use to fill in their plot holes. i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt until the end of the season, but if it's used as nothing more as an advertisement for all the other stuff they have coming out, i'm done. it's not television anymore, it's just content
