I worked at a fireprotection fab shop most of the welds was made by a robot and others the welder welded the outlet on. And man this method works great showed up anything. Thanks for sharing old man.🤙
Just goes to show, a guy can go fast on a budget and don't have to have a lot of fancy tools. Some elbow grease and save yourself enough money to pay for rocker arms or a cam. Cleaning, milling guides, rocker stands probably saved you 2-300 in machine shop fees.
it's a dye penetrant in reality it's probably a better product/procedure than using an ac or dc yoke that a machine shop would use. A yoke is about 1. step up from your eyes and a kid could learn to use it in about 5 mins. as far as NDT goes using a yoke is pretty much the bottom of the barrel.
Your videos have been a life saver for me, sir, you've taught me more about ol' Chevy Heads than I could've learned from any of the pros!
Thanks man that's good to hear

Good video! I learn something new everyday on TH-cam. 👍👍
Very nice. Thank you
Yeah, I know it's a old video but the best way to check them is to take a torch and heat them up and if they r cracked then you would know
Kevin I agree I was trying to show how you can do it at home everyone may not have a torch
Done this a to a lot of stock heads
They also crack between exhaust ports and exhaust bolts holes
Just a little fyi for the home builders
Good tip!
How do you know their vortec heads how do tell does it have any numbers?
I’m looking for some but I don’t know what to look for to make sure their 062 heads
the last 3 numbers in the castings basically tell you what they are 902 and 062 are the better vortec heads
@@oldmanintheshopbuiltnotbou8726 thank you so much!
Help me saved a lot of money I’m gunna see if this 355 is good or not I had coolant shoot out from the oil pan gasket
good deal glad it helped you out
@@oldmanintheshopbuiltnotbou8726 where did you get the material from ?
@@jeremiah_c10 I picked the stuff up at my local welding supply store air gas I think is the store chain name the two cans were around 10 bucks each
If there is any doubt a black light will make the cracks glow.
after i videoed i cleaned up the heads and went thru the process again and they come out good
Arp bolts can crack vortec heads. If I could go back I'd use the tty bolts.
great tip thanks
Crack kills
Machines think that you have to pay them like a banker or the IRS
The developer needs shaked up more it should be white
Looks good.. just polish it with hone! make it flat!
chris im thinking i will get them shaved around 030 thou
👍
thanks chevy
