I'm relieved that Garnt doesn't tolerate these memes even as the most weeb out of the boys. The community makes being an anime fan much cringier than it already is.
Memes don't always have to be funny but these are some of the most lazy content you'll see online. Garnt is right that most of these memes are being carried by "cute, wholesome" factor and wouldn't be entertaining otherwise. That and memes that uses "horny" or "no friends, so relatable" gags again and again because "weebs, amirite".
The thing is, I see other communities use anime images effectively because they don't restrict it to making an anime joke.

One of my favourite "Let´s use german to sound cool"-moments was in SOA2, when the nurse explains that "sterben" is a German medical term that´s used when someone dies at a hospital. Sterben is just the normal word for "to die".
Japanese actually has a lot of german words in a medcial context because many japanese doctors went to germany to get continuing education. Arerugi (allergy), enerugi (energy), dokuta (docter), onanie (masturbation) and horumon (hormon) to name some examples. "sterben" is none of them tho.

This title is a complete fabrication. This man laughed at so many of these memes even if it wasn't directly because of what they said.
The bashing of western comics bugs me. I actually really like how each reader can have their own unique reading experience due to the lack of any correct starting point. Sure, there's a bit of a steeper learning curve, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Comics and manga are both great art forms, there's no reason to put one down when you haven't really given it a shot. (And for Batman, Year One is the better starting point IMO, but that's because I personally like reading chronologically).
For me it's the processing what's canon or not. Coz they gives a lazy excuse of "different universe" crap.
