Wow, hearing Geddy's isolated tracks is like discovering Rush all over again. Had no idea he was doing half the things he's doing in this song. The accents, grace notes sliding into and out of notes, the bad ass muting, the crisp technique of the runs in the signature riff. Thanks for putting Neil in there on the guitar solo.
A lot of responsibility to be the bass player in Rush. He does lots of stuff and covers lots of sonic ground with his bass, the Taurus pedals and his voice. His bass playing is masterful without question.
Wow... Thanks for uploading these! There is something the Ashlys (+ 15" cabs) do that all the Sansamps from the PSA-1 to the MP-40 just haven't pulled off. (The Sansamps are great for adding the extra 10% of top end zing, especially with new strings.)
@@wooliegeek I downloaded the audio files off this website and was pretty much able to just rip them out cause someone has already done the work however I have also done it the long way. If you can burn the disc on to your computer and extract the singular master audio file, you can use adobe audition to go in and separate the channels.
@@asllanpizzatto7703 That’s right. Ashly into a BGW power amp and then miked 15” cab. Plus the regular DI neck pickup. I got the exact same tone and posted it on my channel with my SC-40s
Gotta give credit the a guy named Roger Ginsley who used to be a technician in Le Studio during the late 70s and early 80s. His website is here: www.tekxelectronics.net He's also a nice guy. I couldn't believe these photos existed but had never surfaced.

No doubt, hearing the nuances really helps appreciate his technique.
I was thinking the same thing!
Man, Geddy is really jamming out during the solo section. It never fails to get me fired up!
We are so blessed that he shared his gifts with us.
How does he do it and sing over the top of his insane playing? Ged is a musical freak of nature!

Man, his playing on this song is so melodic.
Wild bass tone. Growling monster.
Amazing!!!
This is awesome. Can really hear the lower layer of the Oberheim on the chorus. Really big squelch!
Ged's playing is fucking stupid good

@@peterCuneo-j6s 100% agree. They’re all great units but the Ashly‘s simply just distort different. It’s not even that crazy. It’s just the way it is.
I LOVE this fill! 4:27
So much Entwistle influence in there 👍🏻👍🏻
Pure awesomeness Geddy!
Just think...he actually sings while playing this complex bass and synths.. He's simply the best
I’d so love this but for isolated guitar. Sounds great on bass
@@wooliegeek I can try to see what it sounds like. It would have a lot of cymbals and vocal bleed but it would be better than nothing!
@@kevinsheppard2312what software are you using? I’ve bought all of the 5.1 releases to date, might as well go explorin’

Easily my favourite Geddy Lee bass line
Time Stand next please!
@@dudleydinosaur7405 unfortunately they haven’t remixed that into surround sound but if they ever do, I want to hear it!
Did Geddy use the Ashly SC-40 as a preamp to record this album?

Where’d the studio pics come from anyway?

Maybe an accomplished bass player could learn and play this, but now add in the singing and the Taurus pedals.......no way!!!!!!!!
