Burying A Cymbal For 6 Months
Oops I did it again. Another beloved but flawed cymbal of mine is going underground. I'm really worried this video will do well and then I have to make a TH-cam career out of burying instruments for the next 10 years but anyway, watch this video 5 times and subscribe, I am 314 subscribers away from reaching the monetization milestone. Thank you!
I make very unlikeable music that you can find on Spotify, Apple Music, and even on TH-cam under the name Winter Triangle.

This is the literally the first time I have played drums since March of 2020. Hard to be totally vibing after not playing that long but I made an honest effort.
OK JUST WATCH THE VIDEO AND BURN ME HARD IN THE COMMENTS.

For Beginners: How to Build a Beat on the Teenage Engineering EP 133 KO II

Did you just get a KO II and don't know where to start? This video is for you! I make a beat from scratch in this video to help guide you. Start by putting a sound or two into group A..think of that as your intro. You can always go back and flesh this section out so don't feel like you need to do too much. Seriously, you're going to want two. A solo DFAM can do lots of things with its simple sequencer and patchbay but connecting TWO allows sonic possibilities on the fly that open up this instrument in beautiful ways. The hottest pedal of 2024? You betcha! When I saw the Acorn Amplifier's @theBanalBrother Epstein Fuzz at a guitar show this year I HAD TO HAVE ONE. It made me laugh, it made me think, and it made my guitar sound glorious. This is one of the units from batch #3 and it's been amazing to jam with. Sorry I suck at guitar and making normal videos! Yamaha PS-20, Indie Rock's Favorite Thrift Store Synth
มุมมอง 2.1K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
I bought a Yamaha PS-20 over 12 years ago after becoming obsessed with Beach House's Teen Dream, a dreamy indie pop record that I still enjoy to this day. This video is about the synth/keyboard behind the band's sound, reportedly picked up by Victoria Legrand in a thrift store. I talk about it's features and (somewhat annoyingly) go through all the sounds it has to offer...something I usually l...

I've now owned the Teenage Engineering KO II since December 2023 and I have some thoughts. It brings a lot of functionality and a really cool design to the table...is it something worth having? Paraphonic Ambient w/ the Korg Volca Keys.

My worship of the Volca Keys continues with a video that demonstrates an easy way to freeze the Keys' sequencer, use its onboard controls, and utilize a sick reverb pedal to make an ambient soundscape. I'm proud to say this video MOSTLY has no talking. That is, no talking after the intro. There are lots of low frequency sounds here, use headphones for maximum results. Thank you for supporting s...

I finally got a pedal I had looked at one TH-cam and Ebay for a year, the Meris Hedra. If you aren't familiar, it's a "rhythmic three-voice pitch shifter" which doesn't even begin to describe the truly wild sounds it can create. The real Earth ride
I’m subbing for this
Welcome to the krazy train
That’s sick for my birthday I’m getting one
HBD dude rock on
could you make a video pairing this with koala sampler
I’ve never used Koala. I might be down for a Volca Keys and KOII vid!
@HiImNathan that would be cool too
So which one should i choose? microkorg xl+ or this microkorg xl
Get whatever is cheaper. Don’t need to spend a lot to get these. Good luck!
@HiImNathan but like sound and quality wise
The architecture is pretty much the same, get whichever is easiest and cheapest…truly.
Zildjian already make this cymbal It`s called the Earth Ride
Isn’t that just really thick?
maybe they should give me a job
Well played. You got me to sub.
Tape on cymbals is a abomination
see you in 6 months!
My grandfather recommended I do this when i was younger. Crazy old man
I'm going to try this on all my musical instruments.
MICROKORG dare u
I bet he forgets. in 1000 years it will get dug up and they will believe it is some kind symbol.
some kind of *cymbal
@@whanowa No they wont know it was a cymbal, and they will see it as a symbol.
@@someguyonthewebyoudontknow bruh
cymbol
I honestly don't understand the wash after the acetone; how could it get cleaner than being completely stripped chemically?
In the early 2000’s I purchased an expensive bronze Meinl ride cymbal brand new, which was advertised as being buried for 3 years. Can’t seem to find any now or even reference to one, but I remember it even had some sort of ‘authenticity’ paperwork with it regarding the ‘burying’ 😂. To be fair, it was by far my nicest sounding cymbal.
Wow so maybe I’m not insane thank you 🙏
@@HiImNathan indeed. I should clarify, it was advertised by Meinl as being buried by them, not an after market seller. I purchased it new from a drum store who were an official Meinl stockist and I remember a little tag explaining the advantages of burying it. It’s crazy, because googling it now would almost suggest I’m lying, and as though it’s simply some crazy wives tale, but it was marketed by Meinl themselves, and that was the first time I ever heard of bronze cymbals being buried.
Sounds like something that would be used in stoner rock Just stumbled across your channel and you’ve definitely earned this subscription
Hell yeah 🤘
You are an embarrassment to drummers. Get a life.
can't wait to see the final results!
U and me both my TH-cam career is riding on this 😂
Maybe if you took all the tape off the bottom of the cymbal, you may have ended up liking it.
It allready sounded way better when he took them off.
You didn’t like Billy’s outfit?!? Tape controlled overtones, I played it tape-less for 10 years it sucked
@@HiImNathan But video proves that it sounds way better without the tapes. The tapes kills it totally, just bonk bonk.
@@HiImNathan in that case you would love the super dark stuff like the PAiSTe Earth Ride. It is like playing ride patterns on the side of a submarine
cant wait to see what this does to Billy
It’s about to rain everyday till April so Billy is in for a ride…good pun right?
I really don't get it except if you are trying to start a youtube channel to make money burying instruments.
Makes it sound different
With cymbals, it allows you to change the entire sound of it, and if you don’t like the sound as is then you may as well give it a shot
Good luck cymbal
Clearly testing your mettle with this experimental iron in the fire. You've got brass, well... brass something and showed a cold steely gaze as you dug the grave. (I've run out of metalic puns at this point but I did enjoy the video).
Hilarious! Can't wait to hear the results
Dude is unhinged but I have to keep watching
So, you're filming Cymbal Semetary! 😆🙃 That is so weird, and so intriguing! Can't wait to see/hear the results.
😈😈😈
Excellent tutorial, and very simple to follow. The fader can be assigned to a different effect per group, and it's assigned to "level" by default. I think this is what might have confused you when you wanted to apply reverb to all the groups. Now, off to try this out on my EP-133!
This is the best to make drum loops and later export to a daw for a song. it sounds super high quality and simple to make complex percussion loops. I’d rather use this than something that costs a lot more
Hard agree! I find myself doing this exact thing lately…making beats and sections of a song on the EP 133 while I’m in the park or at a coffee shop and then exporting into DAW to finish the track with guitars and other non looped synth sounds. It’s great for this!
@@HiImNathan I was considering getting the Digitakt but mannnn the sound quality of this is incredible and quickness to be super creative with percussions. 64 mb limitations isn’t a big deal. Just backup your drums and you can swap in and out through the web app. Biggest challenge would be to record individual tracks but I’m sure there’s an easy way to
This type of more "philosophical" review is great. I need to use my KO II more!
I started just carrying around my KOII and now make beats at coffee shops or the park. It’s the best 👽
Hi Nathan, I just wanted to say that I really like your videos👍😊
Thank you! I’m so glad someone does!
yep, bought a DFAM and two years later I build my own modular case from two IKEA bathroom cabinets, because I was running out of space with my old case(s)...
This is so cool. How can I sync up a DFAM / Drumbrute combo to record with Logic? Thinking of jumping in after seeing what you made.
DFAM lacks midi so to sync with Logic you would need a Eurorack module like the MFAD or another CV to midi converter. The Drumbrute Impact does have Midi though so you could sync with that and take a clock out to the DFAM.
I really want one, I’ve been waiting for them to come down in price a bit, I think it’s time. I use ableton live, but am looking for something more portable but more powerful than anything my iPad can offer. I think this is the sweet spot!
Ain’t going to lie, the past few weeks I have only been using the EP133 to make music. I take it to a coffee shop and make beats out in the world and I love how portable it is and how good it sounds. If you end up getting one make sure to check out some of my tutorials. My latest video is an unrehearsed start to finish beat making video that could help you get started.
@@HiImNathan I ordered one this morning and have bern consuming your content all day, thanks for the reply. Looking forward to bashing some buttons

Cool video, I also really enjoyed getting my EP-133 and trying it out for the first time some months ago.
That raw Tascam had my experimental music senses tingling haha. Your videos are a refreshing break form the overly produced and commoditized stuff youtube usually recommends. Keep it up!
I always liked this video but it’s never gotten any love. Thanks for being a real one!
Love the videos! Please keep them coming. Where do you find your samples? Love the sounds as well.
Ay-o thank you! I have been sampling sounds from my domestic life…faucet dripping, cashews in a container. I also just listen to songs differently now, I’m always searching for acapella lines to use in a song.
I appreciate how homey this video came out, old-school youtube! Miss it... 25:40 was a catchy song idea on its own haha
lol yeah no cuts no outfit changes, pretty old school. Harder to make than it looks honestly! Yeah I totally agree I am thinking about going back to those chords for a new song it was a vibe
Enjoyed your first video! You look like you're really enjoying your musical journey, and that's great to see! Keep it up and Kudos!
Thanks so much for being here since the beginning ☮️ I love making videos and hope to devote more time to it in the future.
No sustain, why no hate?
1:21 Bro, your cable has a knot in it. Dude, you gotta untie that. Like for real. All the tone will get squished.
Enjoyable video man! If I can echo another comment on here, get yourself a Subharmonicon. The way they play with each other leads to endless exploration and fun!
I definitely look around sometimes for them. Because some people say they are confounding I would love to test drive one first.
its brilliant. needs a song mode. people complain about the memory. how much memory did depeche mode have for violator on emulators and emaxes? A fully loaded k2000 has 64 meg sample ram max. how did pink floyd do on the division bell? sounded pretty good to me. love this unit.
I like this view on the KOII. I don’t disagree but since I’ve put some longer samples into the KOII I lost 80% of the kick drums and 40% of the snares. I get it, but I wish I could use it as a sample library like a little bit more.
Sounds like mowg
Loved the way you present the information in this video. Your keyboard playing skills are very comparable to mine. 😅 Instant subscribe. Oh, and the MicroKorg XL looks like an interesting instrument to play around with.
Danggg dude thank you 🙏 Appreciate you. The MicroKorg XL is a blast for sure!
Originally just wanted it for the lols but man it sounds awesome!
Hey, thanks! I just made a little supplemental video about the Epstein, make sure to check it
Hi Nathan, I'm Drew. Former PDX person currently feeling sad I don't live there to make dope beats with you. This channel is DOPE and this video is exactly what I've been looking for to dig deeper into the EP 133. Thanks for being dope.
Hey Drew! Great to meet you. PDX misses you heaps, it told me. You should probably come back. Where did you move to? So glad this video helped you get going. Make sure to check out my part two on the EP133 cause I didn’t totally understand how scenes worked when I made this first video and they are REALLY important :)
@@HiImNathan that video is NEXT on my playlist for the weekend jam session. Moved out here in 2018 to work for Universal Music Group, stayed because I have so many siblings and other family here. There is nothing like the Northwest though!
Sounds like a solid move 😎 The PNW is the best if you like jackets and cloudy days-which thankfully I do. Yesterday was 55 and rainy here….in AUGUST
