FINALLY UPDATED! | 2024 Mazda MX 5 INFOTAINMENT REVIEW
This is a companion video to the full review we did on the all new refreshed 2024 Mazda MX-5 MANUAL GS-P ("Club Sport").
I now love this little car and think it is the most engaging driving experience money can buy (that you can still somewhat use everyday and that doesn't cost more than condo).
And now, I want to show you that the infotainment has finally been updated to modern standards! Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are touchscreen for those who prefer working the infotainment that way, over exclusively using dials and buttons that aren't conveniently placed in this not so spacious cabin.
Let's go!

This car shocked me! 2024 Mazda MX-5 Manual Full Review

I go to Mazda Canada to pick up a new refreshed 2024 MX-5 Manual for the week. I was blessed last year to be able to borrow an RF, which I thought I'd prefer since I own a small light weight coupe, but I jumped at the opportunity to drive the car that shocked me in refreshed convertible form this year! I never understood why people liked this unassuming, relatively inexpensive little sports car...

    The Infinity QX80 is amazing. We were driving our QX80 when a Dodge Ram slammed head-on into our infinity. Our QX80 went into a spin and slammed into a Dodge Ram that hit us. No person or surface in our QX80 was damaged. Airbags were not needed. How the Infinity QX80 computer system determined airbags weren't needed is shocking.

    You are driving a club with the brembo ,recaro bbs wheel, package. Nice car! My question to Mazda is why build a package that costs $4500 usd, and the car rolls around corners like a drunken sailor? Stiffen up the suspension to use all the great parts properly. I cant justify the cost of a 24 because of the expence for me to correct the handling issues. Suspension, and exhaust, around $3000 usd. For me, better to buy a 19-21 car. I had a 90, 92 autocross car, and a 93LE. All handled very well.

    Hi , Do you think the direct injection will be an issue ? Probably the only concern I have before I pull the pin and get one ?

    • @Neutralreviews
      @Neutralreviews 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good question. I'm not an expert, but like many realize direct injection can cause carbon buildup on the valves. This is because with direct injection the fuel is delivered directly into the cylinder, unlike port injection, where the carbon gets flushed away off the valves by the new fuel being injected into intake ports first. That said, I believe some engines have gotten better at it than others including Mazda. I haven't really heard many major complaints about MX-5 engines of the last few years (other years may be ok, I just wasn't paying attention then). It might be helpful to comb the forums if you haven't already. Maybe others who have owned one can comment. I would never want to spend someone's money (especially now a days) but I don't think for this car - don't quote me - it might cost $1K to clean but from my understanding only every some many years. Nothing in life is perfect so I think with how relatively affordable they are used or new, the probably low overall maintenance cost being a small Japanese car, the huge community of parts and support around the car, not to mention the fact that I personally think it is the best car money can buy for engagement and value, you should do it.

    • @Neutralreviews
      @Neutralreviews 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Lol. I know. I have a RWD car and this seems silly. You can definitely drive in that mode (all it does is routes more power to the rear than the front and reduces the nannies). It was fun and great that it can do it when others can't but still not a rwd;)

I just enjoy shifting through curves. Where I live there are ‘road take overs’ where groups of youth take control of an intersection or even the freeway, and do this sort of thing. Not at all my interest, but there is a whole generation of people who grew up watching Fast and the Furious, and this is a desirable feature for them. Great review. Never heard anyone else mentioning anything about negative camber. Two questions please: 1. Are you able to please provide the link to that document you showed with all these details like the negative camber. 2. I’d be interested to know, like when you mention there was maybe half an inch longer wheel base to the new model, is something like that considered negligible or important for ride stability, or for whatever it’s for. Same with the negative camber, those are interesting observations, but I don’t know so much what that results in, means, etc. This is really an excellent review, very informative and enjoyable.

      th-cam.com/video/GU92h1hez_8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nDaC97Lrw4aa-P91 Great questions (and thank you for the kind words). This is a link to one of my favourite car channels that get more into the engineering. That's where I got that info from (screenshots). The longer wheelbase is better for providing more interior space and a better more stable feel when travelling straight like on a highway. Downside is, the longer wheelbase makes it slightly less agile. The camber points the wheels in a way that helps the car go around a corner better like hockey players lean when turning. The R last gen or this has to be one of the best all around vehicles out there. Really tough balance on all these pieces but VW seems to do them well for the R.

      @@Neutralreviews Thank you very much for the link and explanations. Yes, I really enjoyed the review and unlike most of the others I’ve seen, I learned some new things. I bought this car about one month ago, because it was the last opportunity to get a manual transmission vehicle that’s AWD, sporty and comfortable, and lower price than these something like a BMW, or what not that also fits this description. I am coming from driving a motorcycle, not another car for about 15 years and love the Golf. I don’t care about the launch control or drifting, but love up and down shifting through curves. I am grateful for it, but my nitpicks are the buttonless user interface for climate and stereo. This requires the user to takes eyes and attention off the road. I also really don’t like the bulk of the seat’s headrests; I am used to swiveling my head for lane changes, and these things really block visibility. One other point is this lane centering feature. As a motorcyclist, I am always on the very edge of the lane (so as to be able to respond if someone changes lanes into me), with the Golf, I had on several occasions, it would take control of the steering and shift me over into the center of the lane. I did not like that behavior at all and saw how to disable it. It is a very nice car. Back in 1994 I had a 1989 VW Fox for a little while, but am not a VW enthusiast or anything like that. I just wanted a nice manual car before they stopped making them. I really enjoy this car. It’s very fun and comfortable to drive.

    I’m pretty old, so maybe this is the new norm, but not a fan of these seats that have that bulky head rest. Not sure if it’s for supporting a helmet or what, but I prefer the older style of headrest, where it was smaller and a separate component to the seat back.

    Head scratcher is the placement of the battery being right up front. For a sports car they usually try and put it closer To the firewall.

    Can you please share any thoughts on how well the radar cruise control works? It’s a shame Mazda didn’t include it on the US MX-5 manual transmissions.

      I unfortunately only used it in the most bore circumstance of crushing at 6 gear. Worked fine but I never tried it where I needed to go down a gear or in traffic like some vehicles now have. Sorry.

      @@Neutralreviews Cruising in 6th gear is really the only time I’d ever use it. Whenever the time comes for me to pull the trigger, I’ll seriously explore purchasing in Canada if Mazda doesn’t bring the feature to the US by then. Hopefully they’ll add it for 2025. Thanks a lot for your response and great job on the video!

      I have not used my regular cruise control on my 2016 Club soft top yet after 7+ years of driving. Its a driver focused car not a point A to point B mundane drive. Disagree with you & keep the cost down TY North American Mazda !

      I go by how they feel, because the magic and schemes they use to market these numbers sometimes are not reflective of how fast they are in reality. And to me it feels quick. It feels way faster than my 2020 BRZ with the higher gear ratio and increased power over the original FRS and about the same as the new BRZ/GR86. But in some ways it feels faster and that's the point. It's about how you feel. The car involves emotions both because of its gorgeous sporty looks but also and more importantly because of how it makes you feel when you behind the wheel. I tested the new Maserati Gran Turismo Trofeo but if money wasn't a thing I'd go with the Miata all day long. Yes it's the star quarterback but he's not the life of the party. It was so numb and insulated. With it I looked down and went wow I had no idea I was going so fast, where as with the MX 5 I'm like wow I'm going to lose my license and look down only to see I haven't even reached highway speeds lol. It is a riot yet civilized.

      Yes and no. Meaning I know not everyone has a lot of extra money anymore so that's why I agree with the similar more economic pad/fluid changes for better track performance and I've now driven both and unless you are really pushing it you can't really tell. The car literally weighs about 1k lbs less than most hot hatches or enthusiasts vehicles looking to shed weight. But for those with the means, to me it's a good deal. Yes mainly for looks but isn't that also the point. Those wheels I believe are lighter and stronger and those Recaro seats are awesome. Good question
